My friends told us about The Olney as a great place for sandwiches and craft brews, and I was totally down for it. The Olney is a big shop with indoor and patio seating areas overlooking Lake Keuka. It has counter service. We ordered three sandwiches. One was the Mustang, the other one was Scotsman, and the third one, I can't remember. The Mustang had ham, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, oil, and vinegar on an 8" bread roll. The Scotsman originally came with tuna salad, banana peppers, bacon, and tomatoes in a wrap, but I asked for chicken salad and on an 8" roll instead. The sandwiches were flavorful and delicious. Mine hit the spot. I also had a Hawaiian Punch Sour beer from Rising Storm brewery, and it was refreshingly delicious. I had a good experience and would go back here. They have a few gas pumps, a small grocery mart, and just recently they added a liquor store in the adjacent building. It was 7pm on a Friday night, and I was expecting to get owned in high prices, because they were the only liquor store for miles. Holy cow, their selection is pretty solid for being basically in the middle of no where. Liquor, wine, and a whole wall of local wines! The best part about it was the prices were just what I would pay back in Rochester. They were right in line. I bought a bottle of Anthony Road Red and a bottle of Heron Hill Eclipse red. A quick conversation with the store owner, Sunny, and learned he is constantly trying new wines weekly to see if he wants to carry them. There are employees that are standing around conversing and when I ask for help it's almost an inconvenience because it seems they want to get back to their socializing. I have asked a few times for items and just pointed to the direction they might exist, with the exception of Rachel and the Clinique personal. As I browsed through the store there were lots of tags on items, deals, discounts, and % off. The Clinique person said if I make a purchase I get a gift. Once I got to the counter and asked the clerk they said " oh that promotion ended yesterday". Every item I put on the counter I was told the same thing, the promotion ended yesterday we just haven't had a chance to change the tags. I ended up only getting one item that apparently was still on sale. The lip gloss I use was advertised as on sale for the minis. When I brought the person to the display she looked it up and said they don't carry minis. Very disappointed. I also tried to return an item with another employee, but it was too late to return. The clerk never looked at me, I complimented their hair, they said they just got it done. I could not tell you the persons eye color because they kept their head down, didn't engage and I felt like I was an inconvenience.
