I had a terrible experience at the Walgreens Pharmacy on West Ehringhaus in Elizabeth City. After being discharged from the ER yesterday at 4:30 pm, my prescriptions were sent over, but the pharmacy closed at 6:00 pm before I could pick them up. I went back the next morning and arrived at 9:36 am, waiting in the drive-thru until they opened at 10:00. When I finally got to the window, I was told only one prescription was ready and the others would take another hour. I waited in the parking lot, received a text that my medications were ready, but when I pulled back up they still weren't. The pharmacist then told me AGAIN to wait another hour. When I explained that I had already been waiting and that this was unacceptable, she told me to come inside. I physically could not walk inside because my knee has a large cyst, is severely swollen, and I've been in pain all night--this is exactly why I was in the ER to begin with. The complete lack of understanding and compassion, along with the poor customer service, was beyond frustrating. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a pharmacy, and I will never use this Walgreens again. read more

On July 16, 2025, I made a panic call to the Walgreens Pharmacy in Elizabeth City, NC as I realized I had forgotten my thyroid medication on a long-distance trip to this area. I was acknowledged by a very helpful employee in the Pharmacy department who was able to quickly access my prescription records from my Walgreens account in the MidWest. My prescription was refilled within 45 minutes, and I was notified through an email that Walgreens sends out when a prescription is ready. I made the 25-minute drive to this Walgreens in Elizabeth City and was greeted by 2 very nice and helpful female employees in the Pharmacy Department who had my prescription packaged and ready for me. Extremely incompitent. When trying to call it takes over an hour to get someone then they cant help you and transfer you to a line where you eventually get hung up on. They remove your insurance from your medications so they cost more and cannot help you with adding your insurance back. The website is complete garbage. Every walgreens location you select says this location cannot fill your perscription. Website also does not allow you to see the price of your medication before paying for it. Everything about it seems unethical and illegal. It should be simple to just get your medication but they make everything the most frustrating proccess with zero customer service. Worst ever pharmacy !! My doctor sent prescriptions to this pharmacy one was over the counter and the girl in drive through told me she couldn't go get it . I told her I have a very bad knee told me to down load the app to buy it . Did not tell me what I needed I called they kept sending me to listen to music because store manager told me he was busy ringing up customers . They are no help for the disabled ! Terrible customer service at the pharmacy. Told 45 minutes for a electronically transmitted prescription to show up in their system. Duplicate paper copy useless. Drove to CVS five minutes later and they show it was filled by Walgreens. Thanks to the kind woman at CVS, everything was handled quickly and professionally. Two words unheard of at Walgreens. And Walgreens - you can save the "have a blessed day" for people who go to your church. read more

Just left Walgreens on Ehringhaus in the early afternoon. Picked up some batteries, and the sign said "buy one get one free" so I grabbed two packages. But when I went to the register, I got charged for both. Clerk said that it was probably an old sign that someone had not pulled down. That could be because the display was behind a screen that they pulled down to take pictures of people, so someone could have easily overlooked it. And a couple of weeks ago, my wife and I went to pick up a prescription a little after three o'clock. I pulled into the inside lane in the drive thru because there was only a couple of cars ahead of me. And I sat, and sat, and sat. Cars pulled up beside me and behind me. We sat in line for over two hours. Not a happy camper. read more

This is by far the worst pharmacy, not one competent person works there. I know they do not care about reviews cause they are not closing, or not like these reviews matter, but I have to tell my story. I have Cancer tring to get my pain meds filled( go figure Cancer hurts). They do not have the meds, i get it not the sotres fault, but they tell the insurance company they filled it when they did not, So I have to wait another month in pain while Walgreens denies they told the insurance company, but the insurance company has the walgreen employee who call it in on file. So they lie and deny a Cancer patient medication bunch of scum bags if you ask me wish that store would burn down. read more

My wife went in to pick up a prescription on Tuesday afternoon and asked if they were giving the Mederna booster shot. She was told to go online to set up an appointment. Well, she did, and we had an appointment for 2:00 and 2:15 PM for the next day. When went back we asked where we go to get the shot. We were told to have a seat, and someone will be with us in a few minutes. A lady came out and took both of us in at the same time. We had arrived 15 minutes early but both of us received our shots and were done and leaving before the time we were scheduled to be there. Considering how busy they are it was a surprise to have been waited on so fast. That was great service an even though we didn't get the lady's name I still want to thank her here online. read more

It takes them a while to fill prescriptions ( not narcotics). Literally came 40 minutes after my appointment just to be told it would be another 45 minutes before my prescription would be ready. Not very friendly. Too busy of a pharmacist staff. Better to go to a pharmacy that can fill prescriptions in a timely manner. They should hire more staff since this is the only Walgreens in the area. read more

The review relates to the Pharmacy. Their is a definite lack of professionalism, courtesy, organization and common decency that one would think should be in a well known business. To begin, once a prescription is dropped off you are told you will be notified that it is ready for pickup. This rarely occurs. In the off chance that it does happen, you find out days later. There is a clear lack of communication between every person in that pharmacy. I was told that a prescription could not be filled because their warehouse could not stock that medicine. Now prior to this I had dropped off the prescription and the woman who helped me checked to see if it could be ordered and then placed the order and told me when it would be available to pick up too. Fast forward 4 days and I was being told that the prescription could not have been ordered? I called the manager who in, no joke, 1 minute had the prescription in front of him. His thoughts? "It was misplaced". How does this happen? No apologies for the miscommunication. Nothing. I would not recommend this pharmacy to anyone. Clearly they have the attitude and mindset of just showing up to get a paycheck and everything/everyone else is an inconvenience. I would think a manager would step in and rectify this issue but clearly he's just as incompetent as the people that work for him. I strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND this pharmacy to anyone. Even if it's the closest one to your residence, I recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

I hope writing this review will help improve things. This is not for the general store, it relates to the pharmacy. I am always asked to wait, even after my prescription has been called hours in advance. I wait in line to be told 20-30 More minutes. I always thought wal-greens was great for our small town because of the extended hours . But the service is lack luster and I hope it improves. read more

If there was an option to give zero stars I would!! 2nd year in a row the photo lab did not print my Christmas card pictures OR bother to tell me. I called. Lady said machine was broke. I asked why didn't someone call me. Her response was....your on the waiting list to be called! She said I would be happy to cancel your order, or you can wait until we get machine fixed lol....it's Christmas pictures lady!!! I was very upset but told her it wasn't her fault but I would be talking to someone else to complain. I wish I would have got her name because her last words to me were F you. When you need it in a pinch, Walgreen's has a store on every corner. Great for mints or whatever you need.
