We were looking at many menus for the traditional southern German spätzle and came across it on the menu here! They serve it as a side for €2.50 with most of their grill options. There a long list of homemade breaded schnitzel, some steak options, some real German stuff (those herring in that creamy sauce, pork dripping with crackling to spread on rye bread) and some more typical things like Gulasch - which was what I ordered to go with my much craved spätzle! I was not disappointed! As it was a lunch special, I was also served a side salad that is very typical in Germany - but it was so fresh and crunchy and tangy and sweet, it's one of the better ones you'll have! The gulasch was lacking in vegetables but you couldn't say they were not being generous! The whole plate was filled with large, tender chunks of beef that was in this rich gulasch sauce. Mmm! I could eat it again! The setting is lovely too. Usually you can expect to walk into a dark and dingy room when you go for a traditional restaurant but this one was bright, full of bench seating and managed to look cute at the sane time! We passed a few restaurants that seemed open but deserted before coming across Rüdesheimer Schloss Weinhaus. Bright lights, lots of people, and what looked like a lively atmosphere. We were sold! Lively turned out to be an understatement. Unbeknownst to us, our ship's optional excursion to various German beer houses had ended up here, and with a band everyone was in fine fettle! The band played German music then American songs, the group was feeling no pain and dancing up a storm. Definitely lively! We had a nice booth a little farther away where we could observe all the activity but still enjoy our dinner. For us, it was a wonderful experience: delicious, authentic German cuisine, attentive, friendly service in English, and a well appointed,lovely restaurant with obvious history. The restaurant is quite large and is a gathering place for food and drink, serving traditional German dishes (served family style) and local wine and beer. Schloss Weinhaus serves local beer and wine, and the welcoming servers keep everything coming, from starters, main course and desert. They don't slack on the beverages either. The crowning glory is the live music with standard German and American songs (some Elvis, Roll out the Barrel, et). It's a rollicking good time.

I was a little confused at first but soon realized that you actually go inside to place your order and then they bring the food out to you. I ordered a glass of white wine and the shrimp salad. The wine was delicious and perfectly complimented the salad. The salad was good. It was a little small so I wish I had ordered something else because it didn't satisfy my hunger but it was super tasty! I loved the gorgeous views provided on the patio. Everything was just so nice. The flavor was wonderful and we ate everything. Our server was pleasant and cooperative with our limited German....she and the chef also spoke English to us and that was welcoming.
