We heard of Wakefield from the "Still Standing" TV show. We were intrigued so when we planned a road trip into Quebec, we chose to rest in this town instead of Ottawa. Wakefield Mill Hotel is one of the Town's sightseeing and heritage spots. The main building is next to a fast running river. There is a small waterfall underneath a bridge. The view at the lookout point is breathtaking. I strongly recommend you to stop by Wakefield Mill to enjoy the view. Note that you cannot check out the inside of the hotel, though. We stayed at the Eco Lodge. It is a newer building on hotel ground. The building is LEED certified. There are many artistic paintings in the hallways. The room has contemporary furnishing, big TV, and Nespresso coffee. The bed was comfy. The bathroom had a nice rain forest shower. We were very happy with the room. One note though is that there is no USB outlet for phone charging. Make sure you bring an adapter to charge your phones. We didn't dine at the onsite restaurants, so no comment on them. read more

I always wanted to experience this place out so I finally did it . We did the discovery package that came with one night stay , 5 course meal and breakfast included. The place itself is very small and cozy . It feels very personal and very in the woods . The room we were in was very clean and spacious for 2 people . We got a complimentary honey on our check in and a sweet note for the birthday of my partner. The staff was amazing , since the check in until check out they were so kind and just very enthusiastic to be there . Our 5 course meal at la muse restaurant was unique and with an amazing view if the falls . The food was okay as we are not very big fans of french cuisine but still it was very good we ate everything. The breakfast was simple but filling and very good . Is the perfect staycation if you're from Ottawa or Gatineau. If you're from out of town definitely recommend doing in the summer and stay more than one night so you can really enjoy the small town and some hiking trails in the Gatineau park . read more

Easter weekend bought a couple getaway package at le moulin de Wakefield hotel and spa which includes a $50 meal voucher towards the dinner at la muse. Food is great and the view of the falls was really nice I would recommend people to give it a try at least once. Btw , the bill comes about $250 for two persons so that $50 helped read more

Last year we visited the O'Brien House, another hotel owned by the same group that runs the Wakefield Mill. We had an amazing time so we decided that this year we would head back to the Gatineau area and visit the Wakefield Mill with my wife's parents. Upon arrival we were met with a rude staff member but tried to not let this sour our experience. So after checking in we headed down the road for a beer and met up with my wifes parents. They went to check in as it was 2:45 they figured they could probably get their room but instead were told by the staff member at the front desk that their room wouldn't be ready for until their 3pm check in and they also had a rude staff member at checkin. When we inquired after we were told their room was ready so they weren't sure what happened. We ate at their restaurant which was delicious and the staff their were fantastic. The rooms themselves were also really nice and overall the stay was good as the location is nice and a short walk to town. The only other complaint is our package included $20 each in spa credits which we could never use. My wife and her mother tried to book manicures a week in advance and were told they were booked up. When we got to the hotel we discovered the problem was actually that the person who does their manicures only works on weekends and we checked out on Friday so this was a bit BS. Don't think we will return to this hotel, go to The O'Brien house instead as the service there is way better and staff are much friendlier. read more

The Wakefield Mill was a dream come true for me. I stayed here in March on an impromptu solo getaway to deal with some stress. From beginning to end, this experience was amazing. Where do I start?! First, I booked this the day before I went. I called to make the reservation and asked what would be the best type of room (without costing too much extra) for someone looking for peace and quiet. The woman on the phone recommended the eco rooms, which usually cost a little more - and offered one for the same rate as the cheaper rooms! What a sweetheart. I took it immediately. Upon arrival, my friendly check in person gave me a coaster with the manager's signature on it that was good for a free drink before 7pm in the lounge. Okay?! I took my things to my GORGEOUS room, handed my cell phone battery to the front desk to avoid temptation (to their amusement), and had a glass of wine by the fireplace with my book. I can't concisely describe the rest, so I'll try to be short! The wine was perfect. I went for a hike in the nearby trails, and it was beautiful. Came back for dinner - steak and fries! - and had the best meal I've had in Ottawa the past two years. The staff was super friendly to me, asked questions about my book and my solo relaxation trip, and made me feel at home. Live music in the lounge when I was wrapping up was a cherry on top. I ended up visiting one of their hot tubs (beautiful at night!), going for another hike in the morning, and enjoying a delicious breakfast in their downstairs restaurant. I'm going to do this yearly, at least, and go back to the restaurant for dinner on special occasions. I highly recommend this place! read more

Although we only came in for coffee in the late morning, we were treated like royalty by the staff and servers. We were seated along the glass wall overlooking the roaring watercourse alongside the inn, which had been a mill in an earlier incarnation. Our bilingual servers were gracious and prompt. We never felt rushed, even as the room began to fill for the lunch hour. We walked around the grounds for a while and appreciated the landscaping done along the creek. Many quiet, secluded spots to sit surrounded by nature. Even a hot tub outside the basement spa in the trees and bushes. Would be fantastic at night. There is a full spread Sunday brunch buffet here that looked magnificent, if we had thought to reserve a time for us. Still, it all worked out for the best. We had the enjoyment of a few hours at Wakefield Inn, and ultimately walked into town and found another cool place for a meal, Le Hibou. I sure wouldn't mind returning here for a special weekend. read more

I loved the property and location however the room we got on the 4th floor very small with low ceilings. We also had to drag our bags up a narrow flight of stairs because the elevator only goes to the 3rd floor for some reason. The carpet in our room was dirty too, which was a surprise. Overall this place is nice because of the location and the beauty outside. Next time o say I'll be sure to ask for a 3rd floor room and hope the carpet is clean. The location and setting is wonderful. Thats where it ends. The bedrooms are not soundproofed and we could hear every word spoken and every footstep of the residents above us. The restaurant is overpriced and the menu is pretentious. If the chef paid more attention to the quality of the food served as opposed to being "clever" he would make a better impression. I chose the cheapest wine on the menu at $62 and it was dreadful. It was a wine you would not pay more than $6 or $7 for at the LCBO. Even then, I could select way better $7 wines at the LCBO which would not have been so offensive. Things like this will always ruin the experience of a meal, and a stay for me. I would never go back. A tip. Work on your quality and dont rely on your location and over blown reputation. read more

Quant place situated just off the Main Street of Wakefield in a renovated mill right on the creek. It has a cool vibe to it! We only stopped to eat. Had the goat cheese salad & French onion soup to start and shared the crab cakes for our main. All dishes were awesome. Best French onion soup in Quebec that we had (had about 5). We spent three fantastic nights in a beautiful grand king river room in the eco lodge, enjoying breakfast at the mill each morning. The breakfast was very well executed, with a selection from the hot menu, plus a cold buffet offering fruit, cheese, breads, the best homemade jams and a super-delicious granola, also made in-house. The wait staff at the restaurant were very pleasant and attentive. Housekeeping was outstanding. We spent hours each day on the Nordic ski trails, able to join the gatineau park trails directly from the Mill, finishing up with a soak in the fabulous freestanding tub in our room - simply wonderful! Lunch today was slow to be prepared. A limited menu, approx 7 main items. I had the fish n chips and the fish still had brown meat /blood line in it which is unacceptable. Fries were ok and coleslaw bland. Server was very nice. My friend had the steak n frite and his steak was excellent. Great location. read more

Would not recommend the Muse restaurant. They refused to serve the five course experience to my husband because I wanted to select from the menu (I don't like fish). They refused to sell him a 150.00$ meal (incl. wine pairing) + taxes & tip! So, he had to settle for menu items (incl wine pairing) and cost him $95.00??? I simply don't understand why a restaurant would refuse to serve what the customer wants!!! It's available on the menu! The meal was fine but nothing to write home about! My husband ordered a cheese board it came with two (One bite) pieces of cheese, a jelly and some greens.... No fruits, dry nuts, dry fruits!!! The service was awful, the waiter did not pay any attention to us! She would simply walk by and not even check on us. We had a three course meal and the wait between course would of appx. 25 minutes or more. We had reservations at 6:45 p.m. and were able to leave right after dessert at 9:15 pm. My wife and I recently went for dinner at the Wakefield Mill. The ambiance was nice, the serving staff were friendly, the presentation of the food on the plates was attractive but the food itself was quite disappointing particularly considering the +$150.00 bill. The lamb rillettes appetizer was salty and had no texture whatsoever while the sea scallops were undercooked. The main course Arctic Char was so small that it almost got lost on the plate while the lobster that came with the maple-glazed pork belly was over-cooked and tough. Neither the cake or the pineapple desserts were anything special. Overall, we were very disappointed with our experience. It was apparent that in trying to be creative with the presentation, the chef forgot that diners don't eat with their eyes but rather they eat with their taste buds. My family and I come here once a year to celebrate a birthday. We always go to their Sunday brunch which is wonderful to go to during the summer. The food is great and in my opinion well priced for the all you can eat brunch. I forget the price but I believe its in the $30s per person. You should definitely call to reserve though and I highly recommend making a request to be seated in the solarium. It's located right next to the waterfall and its so peaceful looking outside as you dine. Also once you're done eating you can take a walk out back through the Spa exit where you can walk along the waterfall and stream. There's chairs all along the stream so its nice to sit out in the sun after eating a large brunch. Also there are nice little shops outside the mill along the street. To begin with, it would not be fair to blame the Inn for the weather: the hotel was surrounded with ice when we visited in March which made hiking virtually impossible. However, the surroundings are indeed beautiful, particularly the mill pond that provides a stunning view while sitting in the solarium at mealtime. Reception staff provided a warm, friendly greeting. Moulin Wakefield Inn is quite beautiful with the massive stone walls, rustic pine floors, and soul-warming stone fireplaces. The room lacked a refrigerator and microwave oven, but made up for it in style and charm. The cuisine is exceptional, even by Quebec standards. The Guinea hen was subtle and interesting and the Arctic char, delicious. The amuse bouche and the palate cleanser courses added a few nice touches to the dining experience. The dining room and bistro menus are decidedly different and the only disappointment was the striploin steak which was delicious but definitely tough. The experience really stood out for us because of the exceptional service from Martine and her assistant Calum who were nothing short of masterful. Superior restaurant service requires enormous emotional intelligence, and these two young people seem to intuitively understand that providing good timing and friendly service involves being assertive without being aggressive and available without being intrusive. Like great understudies, they were there, waiting in the wings, ready to make the show a success, never upstaging the real star of the show, the food at centre stage. Watching them work the room was like witnessing the performances of two fine actors. Our sincere thanks to Martine and Calum for making our Wakefield Inn experience truly memorable.
