Best Baja fish tacos on the Atlantic, and AMAZING margaritas. Can't wait to go back.

Review Highlights - Wahaca

Without a doubt the best Mexican food you'll find outside of London and definitely some of the best you'll find on this side of the Atlantic.

I have had two such differing experiences that it should just about average out as a 3 star review,…read moreluckily you can't have half stars... The first time I visited here was last winter and lordy lord was it freezing! It was below 10 degrees outside and about minus 4 inside. It felt like the air conditioning was stuck on full blast, I don't remember the food/service or anything as I wanted to bolt out of there as quick as possible. The last time was at Valentines with my lovely and was a lot better, especially warmth wise. We were met by a compere that had the cheek to say there may not be any tables available, after letting him know that over half the restaurant was empty I wouldn't think that was a problem. No one likes to be made to look silly and he wasn't very friendly after that. That was the last problem with unfriendly staff as our water was so delightful. He did really make our day with his upbeat personality and we ended up having a good laugh with him. I do believe that this Chiquito does take aways too, which includes the full menu. I'm not sure the Cardiff Centre one does that, don't quote me on that though.

Located at the opposite end of the Red Dragon Centre's car park, the restaurant itself is in a distinctive looking building, with excellent furnishing inside and out. During the evenings, a time i'd recommend eating more so than lunch time, there's a vibrant and family orientated atmosphere. Once seated, the clean cut, contemporary surroundings aren't really in character with how one would imagine a Mexican restaurant, although it is very pleasant. The menu itself is stocked full of 'Mexican' dishes, although typically these consist of the more Westernised meals like fajitas and nachos, rather than genuinely authentic Mexican cuisine. Perfectly edible and tasty, the meals aren't anything to write home about. I do enjoy Mexican food particularly, but I wouldn't rank this as much higher than anything I could prepare for myself at home. Who knows, maybe i'm just a great chef.

I highly recommend going for lunch, where there are appetizers under £3, wine and beer for £2 (one glass only), and many mains for £7.50-8.50. For vegetarians, vegan, and gluten free folks - they have a very extensive menu that is very clearly marked. ( I personally recommend the vegetarian enchilada.)

Not a bad place for a date at all! ~ Customer Service: The waitress who served us was excellent. Really friendly, prompt, and since it was Valentine's Day we even got served some complimentary wine for 2. The food came out in no time at all - can't fault that! Overall, absolutely no complaints about the service. Even though it was a really busy night, things still went smoothly. ~ Food: Delicious! We ordered: - 2 Taco Planks (£12 for 2): There was a variety of options you can choose for toppings on the grilled soft tortilla and we opted for the pork and the garlic chili prawns. I especially loved the prawn tacos! The lime aioli sauce they used was absolutely divine. The taco planks were also a lot larger than I thought they would be. Normally, restaurants served tacos in 3s but the taco planks were HUGE! I couldn't even count how many there were! - Sea Bass Achiote (£13.95) DELICIOUS! I absolutely loved this dish and would definitely be ordering it again next time I come back. The sea bass was perfectly cooked and the crab and prawns was perfect in the tomato sauce that was served with it. Normally, I don't order fish at restaurants because fish is really hard to get right and when it's cooked wrong, it's terrible! However, I can safely report that Las Iguanas KNOWS their way around fish. Incredible dish! --- I'm really pleased with my Valentine's Day meal. Going to a new place for a special occasion is always a risk, but we're really pleased with how this one went!
