At some point or another it has been a Royalist meeting place, a Victorian brothel and a 1920's gambling club. Not bad for such a small tavern.
With its complete lack of music, quiz machines, fruit machines or drinks you've ever heard of, the pub really is a step back in time. You expect to see buccaneers clustered round the tables muttering darkly or a Navy official to be dropping the King's shilling into flagons. Definitely worth a visit if you look for time travel in a pub, which I do.
