This is not our first time coming to this Longhorns, and we actually appreciate the location of it as it keeps us from driving to Memphis. Tonight was my first night back in the area and my wife and I wanted to have a special meal, so we chose Longhorns. As we entered the facility, the Hostess readily greeted us and got us seating. We waited about five to ten minutes before the server actually showed up to the table to take our drink order. We had enough time to actually know what we wanted when she came, so as I stated in the survey, she took our entree order because we gave it to her when she came. The next phase was seamless until my wife found a hair in her table napkin that held the silverware she had just used to butter the bread. The Server after dropping off the drinks and bread seemed to be very preoccupied because we didn't even get the customary "yall still doing good?" The food comes out and my wife is mortified that the steak is still mooing it was so pink. My salmon look as if it had eczema. We tried to enjoy our food, but it was just not tasty at all except for the shrimp because we both got the Shrimp. We'll see if the dogs will eat this, because I certainly just wasted $63 dollars! Other than that, this is one of those instances where I should've just driven to Memphis instead of having this disappointing experience with this location.

The hostess seated my wife & I and our server Carter did N excellent job for us. The restaurant is large and well spaced out. It is also clean and the ambiance is a home type feel. We started with the Fried pickles cooked in fresh oil and came out hot. The country dip is good. Basically roast beef cut up and provolone melted cheese on top within a roll plus an au jou dipping sauce. It's chunkier than a normal French dip but it is good. Flavor wise, it was average and could have been seasoned a bit more. The beef is barely above the bland side as far as pot roast beef is concerned. However, combined together the components elevate the sandwich. It's worth the try to see if one would like it. French fries were good and freshly lightly salted. Cole slaw was basic. Not too creamy but also not sweet. My wife got the fettuccini Alfredo with grilled chicken. It was good and you will notice the grilled flavoring on the chicken. For me, the food could have benefited from a bit more seasoning but that is subjective. The meals were well worth the cost and Pop's deserves to be on anyone's go to eateries if you want good comfort dining.

This was my first time to Tennessee, and my first time trying southern food there. I'll try and break this down quickly. The restaurant was cool and super clean. The cornbread and okra were probably the worst I ever had. The cornbread had no sweetness or flavor at all, and the okra was just hard, cold and rubbery. The sautéed squash was ok, with no flavor or seasoning really. I really enjoyed the green beans though. The macaroni and cheese wasn't that great at all, and the grilled catfish was decent. Now for the star of the show, the fried chicken. It was absolutely terrific! The thin and crispy batter and the juiciest meat! Yummy! We took home three desserts. Cobbler a la mode, banana pudding and bread pudding. The cobbler was great, the banana pudding was awesome, but the bread pudding wasn't that good. It was very dense, and the vanilla sauce was missing. That might have helped it a bit. Overall, we had a great visit and the service was completely top notch! Thanks again Grace!

The Shelby Forest General Store is on the outskirts of Memphis, on the west side of Millington, right there on the edge of the park. It's a destination for celebrities and international tourists. One guy I spoke with said he drove 500 miles to get a juicy cheeseburger as he took a bite. The general store began as a dry goods store for rural neighborhood essentials in 1954. Kristin and Doug Ammons have owned it since 2002 and they make you feel like home. There's bait and tackle, taxidermy, snake skins draped above grocery shelves, soda pop, BC powder, golf frisbees, chewing gum, jams, jellies, fresh fried pies and more. Their world-famous cheeseburgers are $3.99 and sell like hotcakes. There are other comfort foods like Philly cheesesteaks, fries and ,instead of their wildly popular $15.99 Steak Night with a band, those cuts of meat are now Ziplocked in a secret marinade to cook at home during the pandemic. When you get your order to-go, it's in a brown paper bag like the old days. Or you can sit on the outdoor deck. It's a total getaway. You can make a day of it and go boat paddling at Meeman-Shelby Forest. Or do what I did and have a picnic with a table cloth and real glasses at the park. SFGS is not just a general store, it's an experience just 15 miles from downtown Memphis. #ThankYouThursday
