She paid me by check which I took into the branch. I handed them my drivers license and check and immediately the woman had an issue with my DL. Albeit it's a little beat up and cracked but I've never had an issue with it at us bank or my bank or anywhere else for that matter. I asked to speak with the manager and explained the situation. I could tell by the way he was looking at me that what I was saying was falling on deaf ears. I was being judged because I was all dirty and didn't fit what his expectation of what someone should look like being in "his" bank. The Manager was an older Hispanic gentleman and his smugness and I make the rules attitude just didn't sit well with me. Nicole Schaefer and Steve Adams with Sterling Bank and Trust put my husband and I through a…read moremortgage loan NIGHTMARE. Due to Nicole Schaefer and the bank's NEGLIGENCE, we nearly lost the house that we had been in contract on! My husband and I were FULLY APPROVED (not simply pre-approved) for a 30-year fixed loan by Nicole Schaefer. With a letter of approval from Nicole Schaefer on Sterling Bank letterhead, we put bids on a few homes and we waived all loan contingencies. After going into contract on a home, we had to resubmit all of the paperwork we had already submitted to Sterling bank months earlier - a headache, to say the least. Before the scheduled close Nicole Schaefer started to ask us for more credit information, even though she had told us that we were approved months ago. As a result of Nicole Schaefer's incompetence, we had to request for TWO EXTENSIONS from the seller and almost lost the house. During this process, Nicole Schaefer kept telling us that everything fine and that the bank was just "crossing the t's and dotting the i's" - whatever that means. Shaefer started to not return our calls, emails or text messages, and when we asked her repeatedly what was going on she said "the rules for approval keep changing on me and I don't know if my compliance department needs any more information". Our confidence in Nicole Schaefer was gone so we spoke with the bank's regional manager, Steve Adams. Steve Adams was also elusive, tough to contact via phone and NEVER ONCE replied to email. Once we did connect with Steve Adams, he took ZERO responsibility for the bank delaying our close for twice and in the end he pointed the finger at us. The delays on Sterling Bank's behalf made us delay our closing three weeks and caused us to nearly lose the house, not to mention all of the added stress throughout the process. The final straw was just two days before our final close date, Nicole Schaefer and Steve Adams reneged on the 30-year loan they originally offered us and in place offered a one-year adjustable rate mortgage with a HIGHER INTEREST RATE. CRAZY!? This is now forcing us to refinance immediately COSTING US THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in duplicate closing costs. When we asked Steve Adams and Nicole Schaefer to cover these costs since they forced us into this position, we received a verbal commitment from Nicole Schaefer but never a word in writing from either of them. And every time we've followed up with them on this matter, neither Nicole nor Steve reply and we haven't seen a penny of the money owed to us. Shameless. In short, you CANNOT TRUST Nicole Schaefer; you CANNOT TRUST Steve Adams and you CANNOT TRUST Sterling Bank & Trust.
