Absolutely lovely small fine arts gallery in Lincoln, adjacent to The Collection (an archaeological…read moredisplay of Lincolnshire). It is very typical of regional arts galleries in England, offering a mixed display of paintings, sculptures and arts & crafts objects. The picture collection is the most appealing part of it, offering a nice selection of mostly 19th century landscape and genre paintings, but there are also works by 20th century painters like L.S. Lowry. As you may expect, the "big" names in the history of painting are missing here, it's mostly devoted to artists and subjects of the area. The lighting in the rooms could be a bit brighter (no fear of damaging the paintings), and the explanatory tables next to the works a tad more illuminating. Clearly, the exhibition was designed quite a while ago. Entry is free of charge, and photography is allowed.

It may have a sign outside telling you this is the Archbishops Palace but often it won't. You enter down a long dim tunnel. This is actually the thickness of the wall around the Cathedral. Emerge into such a pretty place. In spring full of flowers and autumn conkers everwhere..then snow mmmm. You are on a highish bank with twisty paths ans stairs but this is the best place to view the Palace. Other ancient buildings are private ecclesiastic offices etc. When it is open (usually summer season) it costs a small amount to get in but you can climb in when shut, over foot high walls, and see a bit. It is obviously a medieval ruin. Climb the stairs to the Alnwick Tower (Alnwick was a Bishop) and go into the magnificent vaulted undercroft. The Palace also boasts the most northernly vineyard in Europe and produces it's own wine. Just a lovely place for atmosphere, history and ambiance. Sit on the steps from the wall and dream.

Cab company very close. They show plays, musicals, Shakespeare, have clairvoyance evenings and one nighters with people like Chubby Brown. Tickets are reasonable prices as befits the provinces. See a London show for less if you are in town. Warningdon't buy a seat in the Gods if you have vertigo :0)) For my ghost guide: Some people have reported feeling a gentle 'nudge' while no one else is nearby. Footsteps have been heard crossing the empty stage, and shadowy figures are glimpsed briefly before vanishing.

Also a big craft centre and several flea market building. All housed in RAF buildings and hangers. There is a small aviation museum and planes too. Lots of greasy spoon eateries. Best on a Sunday when it has a huge car boot and market. I have bought Victorian pen and inks for approx £3 and sold them for £90. Lot's of books and well anything..furniture, clothes, plants. It is HUGE! Ghosts: My father and I looked around an old hanger with ex RAF furniture and equipment for sale. All the time we were in there a phone was ringing. It was annoying and my father declared he wished someone would answer it. Later he read that the hanger was haunted by a phone constantly ringing and that there was no phone in the building! Others: Two ghosts have been reported at this former World War Two airbase. A pilot who crash landed runs down the runway with his clothes on fire, while an engineer who lost his arm in machinery staggers around screaming. A ghostly rendition of the Missouri Waltz is also reported.

People come from miles and miles to hunt for a bargain or two…read more You really do need to leave yourself a good couple of hours if you want to see everything, however after a while all the car boot stalls begin to merge into one. The market side has a good range of stalls from clothes and shoes, through to diy goods and confectionary. There are also flea market areas within the outbuildings which make a nice diversion whilst walking around.

After a gap of some two years, I went to see Macbeth last night…read more I have been going to this theatre for some 23 years now, and, after a gap of some two years, walked into a time warp! In a good way! It retains it's young, vibrant and exciting atmosphere, making you want to visit just for a drink. The 'pub', now called Cast, has changed dramatically in its' decor since the late sixites but still buzzes with conversation. Shame about the 'music' - FAR too loud. Oh dear; am I getting old?! As for 'That Play'; well it was OK. The weird sisters were portrayed in a very interesting way but I found the acting in general to be rather over the top. But then I'm not an expert! And I didn't want to leave! xx
