1 Star -- Extremely Disappointing for a $500+ Per Night Hotel I recently stayed at the W Hoboken, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing--especially considering the $500+ per night price point. The location is excellent, but the service, facilities, and overall level of hospitality simply did not match what I would expect from a W Hotel at this price. The service throughout my stay was very inconsistent. The restaurant was disappointing. The only server who stood out positively was Destiny, who was friendly, attentive, professional, and actually seemed to understand what good hospitality looks like. She was the exception. Unfortunately, most of the other restaurant staff appeared very young and inexperienced, and I did not get the impression that they had received adequate server or hospitality training. Basic requests, such as condiments, involved surprisingly long wait times. There was also very little warmth or engagement from the staff. Destiny was essentially the only person who consistently smiled and made an effort to provide genuine customer service. The front desk experience was also disappointing. Staff frequently did not maintain eye contact and at times appeared nervous, uncomfortable, or unsure when interacting with guests. Again, this is simply not the level of confidence, professionalism, and hospitality I expect from a hotel charging $500+ per night. For a hotel at this price point, I expect a substantially higher standard of service, attention to detail, professionalism, and hospitality. I have traveled extensively throughout the United States and around the world and have stayed at many luxury hotels. In my experience, the W Hoboken was the worst value I have encountered in the $500+ per night hotel category. The price creates an expectation of a certain level of luxury and service, and the actual experience fell far short of that expectation. The W Hoboken could learn a great deal from luxury brands such as Ritz-Carlton and Waldorf Astoria, particularly when it comes to hotel management, employee training, customer service, and restaurant operations. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. The property has a great location and could be a much better luxury experience, but at $500+ per night, the service needs to be dramatically improved to justify the price. read more

Absolutely the best views, but we had some interesting experiences at this hotel. They are doing construction so that counts for a lot of the issues. We had no hot water our first night. It was summer so it wasn't as big of a deal but if it wasn't, we would be a lot less happy. Since we were staying with the group here, everyone had a bunch of rooms and the ones that were outdated were very outdated. For $700 a night room it would've been nice to. I have stains in the carpet. We did enjoy the service everyone who worked there was very friendly. There were also elevator elevators that were out of order because of the construction. Construction aside, the rooms were expensive for what they were, but it was due to the view. If the rooms were updated, we may have felt differently. read more

W Hotels are expensive! Fortunately I was here for a work conference, so it was free for me! Otherwise you can expect to pay $300-600+/night depending on your room and season. If you're wealthy, and more of a "passive" traveler who doesn't drink and in bed by 10pm, this could be a nice place to stay without the noise and crowds of NYC. PROS: -Friendly staff all around -Clean, modern and spacious room. -Incredible location on the waterfront with great views of NYC -Quiet compared to the hustle and bustle of NYC -Walking distance to Washington St, with restaurants, bars, shopping, and pizza! The Pizza in NJ is just as good as NYC. CONS; -Quite expensive! -It's a 1/3rd mile walk to the Blue Metro line to get into New York, that might be considered a long walk for you. Stayed here for my cousin's wedding. Hotel is nice enough. Staff needs a lot of work and was not to typical Marriott standards. They had 1 person manning the front desk for check in, who proceeded to have a 20 min conversation with a guest. Ask the 2 concierge folks to help and they just kind of disappeared. I was already in a rush, so this was thoroughly unhelpful. Multiple other staff members were rude, both in the bar as well as the bellhop later in my stay. Service being an issue in a Marriott is new to me. Was not the only guest who had issues either. Master light switch in all of the rooms is weird. I missed this when I came in to throw down my stuff, and then thought the bathroom lights were broken overnight. They make a huge deal about decor and bath products which is not really my thing. Otherwise the room was perfectly fine, there was a view which was nice, and the bed was pretty good. Restaurant downstairs was surprisingly affordable for brunch. A few positives aside, first time at a W and probably the last time. Have heard about the W for years as a great hotel brand but I don't see the hype. If anything they're making NYers look like a bunch of jerks. read more

Really enjoyed staying at the only hotel in Hoboken . Upon entering early in the morning , a competent Daphne at the front desk was able to get us a room right away . We had requested an early check in the day before and happily she really complied! Dante and Michael were helpful as well . The beds were super comfortable and plenty of pillows. Many soft white bathroom towels provided each day ! Just needing improvement were the coffee maker and the shower which were difficult . The desk chair was very worn which was a surprise to see in this nice hotel room . Liked the "partial" view of the Hudson River ! read more

I found out the hard way that the hotel does not have sound proofing between rooms. TV in neighboring room sounded as if in my room. I went down the elevator to the lobby to get two new cards and then went back up the elevator to my room. Both of the two new cards also didn't work--resulting in less time for resting before a long day of travel. Bit of a disaster. I also ordered room service the shrimp cocktail was horrible (sauce was clumpy, like it sat out too long) and the Caesar salad was so sour it was not edible. The valet says, "I'll find a spot for you" and proceeds to tell us that there are no valet spots available now. Um ok, this is not a good first impression. We walk in and attempt check in at 2:10. The employee tells us there are no rooms available right now as check in at 3. He will try to get us a room before then but it could be 30-40 minutes after 3. Um, no? My sister has a spa appointment at 3:15 this will not work. Finally we were offered a clean king room instead of two queens for the same price in exchange to check in now. Guess we will share a bed ‍ Things not mentioned at Check in - 1) that you need to scan your key in elevator to press floor 2) what the wifi password is or how to access it 3) that there is a hold put on your credit card above the room fee for incidentals We have buffet breakfast included with the room cost tomorrow morning. What was mentioned at check in was to make sure the restaurant doesn't charge breakfast to the room since it's included in the price. So for $615 a night, I need to go out of my way and check to make sure I'm not charged extra for something that I should have included? Ridiculous. As a Marriott member and previous Marriott employee, I was very displeased with the front desk representative that I encountered during check-in. During my check-in experience, I originally booked my room under a government rate for work business. The front desk representative asked for proof of my government id, which I was understanding of and unfortunately I did not have my physical id on my persons. I was able to provide the front desk representative a picture front and back of my government id with my employee photo on it and was told that it was not sufficient and would not be given the government rate. I ultimately, ended up using my Marriott points for my stay as I explained by job would not reimburse for my stay under the regular rate. After completing check-in, the front desk representative was very short and did not even explain the amenities in the hotel, as I witnessed her do to other guests nor did she direct me to the elevators. Additionally, any time I walked past the front desk, I observed the same front desk attendant watching me which was extremely unpleasant. We had the hotel block for our wedding here and it was absolutely fantastic in every way. The location, the rooms, the views, and the service were all a 10/10. All of our guests raved about their experiences here. The staff were phenomenal from the planning process over a year ago, to even after we checked out. We left our headphones in our room, and the security staff found it within minutes of us notifying them, charged the battery for us so it would be usable once we received it, and mailed it to us immediately, all while keeping us updated regarding its whereabouts. We received it within 24 hours. We were so incredibly impressed. If you are getting married in the area, or traveling to the N.Y./Hoboken/Jersey City areas, you should definitely stay here! read more

I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to share my recent experience at this hotel as it was deeply troubling. During our stay, I had the unfortunate experience of the hotel staff entering my room while I was sleeping. My fiancé had accidentally left his wallet behind with his room key inside, and instead of simply creating a new hotel key OR escorting my fiancé up along with security to ensure everyone's safety, the staff decided to enter the room to retrieve it without our consent. This violation of privacy left me feeling extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. It was shocking and unsettling, especially since we were not informed beforehand that this would happen. What's most troubling about this situation is the complete disregard for guest privacy and safety. There are countless things that could have gone horribly wrong. I was deep asleep, and at any point, someone could have mistaken the situation, especially if I had been startled or confused upon waking. Not to mention, the potential for theft or other harmful intentions when a staff member has free access to your personal space without prior notice or consent. No one should ever have to worry about being disturbed in such a manner, particularly when they are in the privacy of their own hotel room. The lack of respect for guest boundaries is unacceptable, and it completely ruined our stay. I understand mistakes happen, but how this situation was handled left much to be desired. This invasion of privacy was completely unnecessary and, frankly, reckless. I would highly advise management to reconsider their policies and staff training regarding how to handle such situations. I will not be returning, and I will be advising others to avoid this hotel to ensure they don't experience the same sense of unease and discomfort that I did. On top of this horrible experience, the room was dirty, there were stains on the furniture and carpet and it did not appear any of the surfaces were wiped down prior to our arrival. For the amount of money spent, I was expecting luxury, and instead felt like I was staying in a one star hotel. It is NOT worth the money. read more

Really grade A spot on service! Had a fabulous staycation at the W coming from the city. We were definitely impressed at the level of service and attention from the staff. (Side note: they even change the carpets in the elevator from good morning to good afternoon and evening. That's dedication. Also just crazy impressive). While some of the areas in the hotel are closed it didn't really affect our experience. We were in a partial River view double queen room and it was beautifully clean and they had treats waiting for us (thank you). The view was spectacular more than we had expected. The location is great just blocks away from the path station, next to the water and blocks away from Washington street which is where all the action seemed to be happening. We had a great time in the hotel. No complaints. Except maybe next time we should stay longer to soak in more of Hoboken since we had tons more food places to explore. Update: 23-Jan, had back to back meetings in NJ so stayed here again last night. This time they put me in room 1608... a "wow suite". Thinking to myself, enough with the wow W, it was late, I was tired. Until I got into the "room" which was the size of a house. The pics speak for themselves. It was awesome to get this kind of upgrade. From the dining area, to the living room, bar, one and a half bathrooms, record player, and records of Sinatra and Lady Gaga, telescope... it was beautiful, and the views of Manhattan on that side of the Hudson are priceless. You got me Bonvoy! I ALMOST pre-purchased a residency here back in 2006. Shoulda coulda woulda. Beautiful hotel and with a room upgrade with a Hudson view, it's a great W. Service is great, they're good to lifetime "titanium" members (it sounds so pretentious that they renamed platinum to titanium). And the place still feels new. Did a quick overnight staycation, and it was a much needed break here. The staff were all super kind and welcoming- from check in, to concierge, to housekeeping, and valet. We booked a "fabulous two queen bed room with city view", which meant the 17th floor (their highest hotel floor) and in a corner with half views of Hoboken and half views of the Hudson River /NYC. You can't beat the location of this hotel -- you're steps away from the water and walking path in one direction and Washington Street with all the restaurants in the other direction. f Valet is $45/night (which I didn't realize though it's on their website) -- a bit pricy, considering that there is a parking garage across the street that's $10 cheaper. read more

Staff is all young, hip, good looking and VERY poorly trained, some even rude to guests. 1. Directions given by concierge were so incorrect that we almost missed our show. 2. Bar unattended for 10-12 minutes at a time, and when I asked where the bar tender was, I was told (by a 20 something) that I needed to be more patient. When I got my drink (double, bar tequila) it was $44. One drink. No mixing, no nothing. No free breakfast. Not even non machine coffee. Super view from the two "super luxe" rooms on each floor - all other rooms, Meh! Late res for wedding - they tried to charge $900 for one person. $50 / night parking. No food after 9:30 on a Friday, neither in the dining room nor at the bar. Should be changed to "V Hotel" for the vacuum cleaner they put in your pocket. I will NOT return here. read more

Service was good and everyone was friendly, but this hotel is so old and was never upgraded. I stayed here 10 years ago and it looks like nothing was changed in 10 years. All the furniture looks old and ragged, and the outer blanket did not look clean. I mistakenly parked my car with valet, I should have parked across the street instead, and it looked like sewage water was dripping on my car all night. Got upgraded to a corner suite with 1.5 bath and a totally separate living room with wet bar and private balcony. The suite had INCREDIBLE views of the NYC skyline. My pictures honestly don't do it justice at all. The bathroom was clean and I liked the separate bath and shower situation, although I wasn't a huge fan of the shower head (the Westin ones are better). The Bliss products were decent but I appreciated that they had a lot set out to use. This W is in a great location. It's a short walk to the train if you want to get into Manhattan. W Hoboken reminds me of Titanic (the movie, not the ship!). You know the scenes where they show the wreckage of what it is now and then flash back to how beautiful and grand it was once upon a time. I can almost picture a majestic scene, circa 2009, where a hedge fund tycoon in his Patagonia vest and Gucci loafers looks at his young, indifferent fiance and says, "You can be blase about somethings, Rose, but not about W Hoboken". If for whatever reason you're not a James Cameron fan (maybe you couldn't forgive him for Avatar), it feels like walking into a place that you know in the words of Johnny Lawrence, was once badass, but now it's just sad. Kind of like walking into an Atlantic City hotel (before the remodels) or for my kosher comrades, going back to the Borscht Belt. And it's true, Johnny Lawrence was right. W Hoboken was once badass, but now it feels like a place you wouldn't even want to sit in a room with a case of Coors Banquets. Hash Brown (#) fall from grace. I had the pleasure of living right next to W Hoboken as it was being built, and although the noise wasn't fun and i lost my view, it was really an awesome place. So much hype about the W residences, opening night with Jamie Foxx performing, always walking by it and smelling the spa, and of course, the large tinted SUVs always in front. Even larger fellows with dark suits and sunglasses serving as gatekeepers. But wow, they don't build things like they used to. Well, I guess they thought titanic was unsinkable, I thought the W would just be awesome for a long time. Solid concrete and steel construction, how can it not be? Well, I stayed in the hotel for the first time and I'm not even going to say something like, oh it wasn't worth the price. Because it's just not worth going to period. If I won my ticket to W Hoboken through a lucky hand at cards, I'd trade it in for Marriott points and stay somewhere else. This is the '93 Caravan that Johnny Lawrence tells Ali is his car. The hotel is just old, worn down, beaten up. Dated. A relic of a bygone era. Doesn't even feel that clean. Not only the rooms, but the hallways, the elevators. Doesn't feel fresh. It feels like one of those 40 year old hotels you stay at when your company doesn't have a very good travel policy. But it's not. It's only 11 or 12 years old or so. It's disappointing and upsetting because it used to be something great in one of the coolest towns in our country. Cobra Kai is truly a story of redemption, and Titanic has its life lessons too, but pretend your reservation to W Hoboken is like the heart of the ocean and throw it into the Hudson. read more

Great place to come to stay in a Hotel. The Hotel is located in a very convenient location which is very close to shops and restaurants. It has valet parking. The lobby is well decorated and a nice place to hang out at. The bar/lounge is very close to the lobby which makes this place a cool place to sit and chill with some refreshing drinks. The room is nicely decorated with cool amenities such as free on demand movies like The Dark Knight Rises, and others. Depending on your tastes you may be able to choose the view of the room. You may get the view to the shore or to other buildings. Definitely worth staying a night at this cool and amazing hotel! read more

What a nice hotel and one of the few in the hoboken/weehawken area. It has nice views but the hotel room is pretty basic. The shower is an old school tub like you would find at the candlewood suites. The rooms look like something you would find in atlantic city. Our room had a partial view from the edge of the window. It must be unbelievable to have a city view but I bet you pay hand over fist for that. The experience was cool and it is in the heart of hoboken. The location is also spot on with it being on the water. You can take a nice walk on the water and really enjoy your night. I would recommend staying here purely for the view and the location. I called 4 times to try and speak to someone about booking a wedding. This is how it went down: Call 1: The person picks up the phone on the first ring, I tell them I want to book a wedding, they transfer me to reservations - 6 minute hold. The lady at reservations answers and I tell her the reason for my call. Ignoring it she goes to the script and is trying to sell me a room block when I haven't even booked a wedding. She is going through her script but it makes no sense. When I emphasize I cant reserve a room block because I need to speak to someone about actually booking a wedding first, she seems to understand. She now gives me the # for what is purportedly the sales department. Call 2: I call that number but it goes to the same place my initial call goes. That person again tells me she is going to transfer me to reservations. I stop her and explain what happened above. She now says she will transfer me to sales. She transfers, the call rings 3 times, and I get hung up on. Call 3: I call back and explain I was hung up on. She seems surprised and says she would try and find someone. She was nice but came back and said there was no luck in finding someone so she will transfer me to reservations again, huh. They again, try and sell me a room block after I tell them I need to book a wedding. I explain again why I am calling and she says I need to speak to the "National Sales Department" and gives me a 1-800 #. She then says, without even taking my name or number, that I should either go online or just try again a few times. Call 4: I call the group sales department and it is obvious from the prompts that giving me this number is nonsensical but I give it a go and wait to speak to someone. I finally hung up after being on hold for 5 minutes on hold because there was no possible way national group sales could have helped me with booking a wedding at the local hotel. How on earth is any of this helpful and how is there not a direct sales number on the website that goes directly to the office where people are booking wedding? How do people actually reach people in this place? I don't even want to write this but since someone actually replies to these reviews, assuming it's not a bot, this may be the only place to reach someone. In the last few days I've called a few venues for potential locations. This is by far, without question, the most comically absurd example of customer service I've experienced in this regard. read more

Since this is the only hotel in Hoboken, they can get away with trash service and high prices -- stay in Jersey City and avoid this mess! First issue we encountered was the cleaning crew. Despite already being checked in and in the room, a maid barged in without knocking (I guess they thought we didn't check in yet). Needless to say, very impersonal. Then, upon check-out, despite telling the front desk we were checking out at 12 PM we had a maid knock on our door at 9 AM asking if we left yet (who does that??), then again someone else came by at 10:30 (!!!) and then the worst of all a third maid came by at 11:59!!! Clearly very poor management where our check-out time of 12 PM (which is the standard check-out time) is communicated to nobody and they think getting an entire crew to knock on the door is the way to go. Excellent five-star service! Second issue was the internet for the TVs was down across the entire hotel so you couldn't watch a movie, Netflix, etc. When I asked the front desk what was going on, the jerk manager said "who rents movies at a hotel?" Again, great five-star service from a well-managed staff! Upon saying how inconvenient this was and a heads up would've been nice, this same manager kept trying to push us to accept Halifax $50 gift cards that expired at 10 AM, which is not what we were planning to do for breakfast so that was completely useless. Lastly, they tried to rip us off at their "munchie bar" -- so CHECK YOUR BILL CAREFULLY! We took a Pepsi and they tried charging us $19!! When we called about this, another very rude service person said "oh yeah well it's hard to know these things, I'll follow-up with the crew and get back to you". Two days passed and I heard absolutely nothing. After another follow-up, they said they had no documentation of what we actually took so they said they'll reduce the bill but they have no idea how long it takes to do that. Again, for any normal business, that should be instant. The whole thing is immensely sketchy and is what trash hotels do -- not a supposed "luxury" hotel like this. read more

It's tired. For me, the best part was the view of the skyline. The rooms are small. Besides the bed, there was a round sofa type thing in the window but I wasn't about to sit on it because I had absolutely no idea what all the stains were. That left the desk chair as the only available seating in the room. I don't understand why every hotel does not take "getting ready" for the day into consideration when designing their rooms. What works for one person just doesn't work for a couple. Why not put the mirror from the shower (why does anyone need a big mirror in the shower?) and put it over the desk so that one person can get ready in the desk area while the other one is in the bathroom? Also, there were no outlets for me to plug in my curling iron near any mirror in the room. There wasn't really a counter in the bathroom to rest my curling iron even if I had curled my hair in the bathroom. Also, shower only had a single rain shower head, no options, so rinsing took longer than necessary. Breakfast was not included and not available in the hotel. Then, we were having a problem with our Uber app and asked the young lady at the desk to call us a cab. She made a phone call and then she gave my husband a phone number and told him to call himself unlike the young man who called for us on the previous day. Comfortable clean rooms, great views, nice restaurant and friendly service. What made it a 5 star stay for me though was Angela in room service. She is just a treasure. I was there for a business trip and got back to the room late several nights and ordered room service and she was friendly and enthusiastic every time. On my last night when I mentioned that I had a craving for some strawberries and whipped cream but they didn't have any, she said "I'm going to get you some" and she left, and came back 10 minutes later with not only my strawberries, but also a nice "W Hoboken" water bottle. For the price you pay, the expectation is high. This W didn't not meet any of our expectations from services, hospitality, amenities.

2 stars for the view. You have to unpack your own car, when you ask if there is a dolly they point to where they are. Then you have to bring your own luggage to your room and bring the dolly back down to the lobby. Then you have to park you car across the street in an underground lot (not affiliated with W) and pay $40.00 for the night. Room not overly clean, 2 towels barely folded, brutal. Sorry to mention, but I found in a couple of places. Human hair in bathroom floors big enough to be noticed and on small chair by window. I did not want to make a fuss. Staff was friendly, I was with a friend I did want to bother. Mary S read more
