In the 1980's , I lived in Scorton for eight years and I shopped at Singletons every week. Last week I returned to the Fylde for a few days and on my return to Kent on Thursday, I made a detour to Garstang for the specific purpose of buying some black puddings and pork pies from Singletons, to give to some of my friends in the south. What a disappointment and a wasted journey. The black puddings were shrink wrapped , obviously mass produced and tasteless . The pork pies were the worst that I have ever eaten, the filling was processed pork like sausage meat and the pastry was wet and soggy. I couldn't believe that Singletons had let their standards sink to that level, I assumed that the business had been bought by someone else. This was confirmed when I returned home and checked on the internet. The new owners my get away with selling that sort of rubbish to day trippers to Blackpool, but the shoppers from Garstang and surrounding villages will so look elsewhere for good quality food products and turn their backs on Singletons and justifiably. I feel rather sad that such a respected, old established business has been bought and now being run by obviously the wrong people. read more
