Please note you have to wear a bathing cap in the pool and pay an extra 5 Euros if you don't have one. Overall, very impressed with this hotel.

It had a gorgeous bathroom complete with a large hot tub. The bedroom doors opened onto a spacious private patio with a table, chairs, and two lounge areas. The view of the beach was breathtaking. The amenities were incredible--turndown service, TV with access to Netflix and youtube, Molton Brown toiletries. The buffet and made to order breakfast in the morning was superb and included with our package. The omelettes were divine, as were the multigrain croissants. Don't miss the mimosa bar--complete with various types of juice, ranging from beet/pear to mixed berry. Everything tasted so fresh! We also received phenomenal service during our breakfast, which we enjoyed on breakfast patio, with a beautiful view of the property and beach. The beauty of the property is not adequately seen from the front or even the back, but from the beach below the cliff. We had an oceanfront room with a balcony. We were actually directly above the pool and a great view of it, too. The room was spacious although the bedspread and decor appears to have been from the 70s. We spent a lot of time at the pool bar and esplanade bar and want to give a big shout out to Vinny & Paulo, both of whom treated us with excellent hospitality daily. The buffet breakfast was a welcome morning fuel source for our cliff hikes and hours on the beaches. It included an array of fruits, vegetables, meats & cheeses and hot items catered to the British. The milk for cereal was warm and the Delta coffee machine was a disgrace to Portuguese coffee, however. A friendly older Portuguese man sanitized every table after guests were finished. Speaking of coffee... There are no coffee pots in the rooms and none in the lobby. Breakfast isn't served until 8AM, so if you want coffee before then, you have to go into Old Town to get a cup. There's an excellent pastelaria, Barhon, just 5 minutes away. One annoying thing about the hotel is access to the property before 8AM. The esplanade entrance is below the lobby. You cannot enter or exit the property from the esplanade until 8AM. Why on earth they have the exit locked until 8AM is beyond me. I'm also not sure what safety implications this has in the event of an emergency.

There is wifi in the lobby and we had wifi in our room. Pool is freezing at this time of year but nice and clean like the garden. Its not in the middle of the touristy center of albufeira wich is nice. There are plenty of great restaurants to eat nearby such as jardim rustico or os compadres. And you can walk to the center or beach in 15 mins. Make sure to rent a car while you stay in portugal. There is a great car rental place right around the corner called tropical impacto. They also sell tickets for tours and boatrides. Anyway, great place, good location and friendly staff.

There is no facility to make tea in the room, which was peculiar for a five star hotel. What surprised us more was the front desk.We asked for a plate and an ashtray (for the balcony) and the reception promptly forgot. Asking them hours later they admitted to this and sent us a ramekin (good enough), but no plate or explanation. When asking the next day for the plate we were told they would charge us for an empty plate. They also suggested that we should ask the dinner service, which we did and they directed us to the reception. It was a very singular experience at a supposedly five star hotel. The ingredients used for the food are very good, but many of the dishes are far too overcooked. This is especially a problem for fish like tuna which were rendered inedible. More troubling yet, there was a chilli for dinner on the 25 of December, the leftovers of which were used to make a moussaka the following day. This was very disappointing and the awful meals (Christmas meal was good though) detracted from our vacation. What was actually infuriating is that there were no beverages (I mean tap water or even juice) with dinner. I understand that this might be a nationwide norm, but at a five star hotel this came across very poorly. It left a far worse taste than the food. How is it remotely acceptable to not offer coffee or tea after dinner or with dessert? I should mention that they have live music five days a week which was really good. Filipe Neves, especially, was a remarkably talented musician.The bar in the foyer is very well stocked. When he was available Renato was able to make any sort of cocktail I could think of and he was a uniquely talented individual. These were easily the best mixed drinks I have ever had. I had an incident at this hotel that started on August 18th…read more A large bag of chocolate and medicine disappeared from my room, when I return at night to the hotel, I asked for help at the reception. the person did not even bother trying to figure out what happened. He only indicated me that it was impossible that someone take something from my room and suggest that I had left it elsewhere. I called a manager and he had a worse attitude saying that the hotel was not responsible for any lost and that I could go to the police to make a report. The next day the girl at the reception helped me and discovered that the cleaning girl had thrown it away. the manager who was the same as last night said that she thrown the bag because it was in the trash( the bag was big and the bin are so small that this is difficult to believe) I can't understand how he can justified that mistake . Aside from the bad manners and poor knowledge of management He started yelling at us in front of other guests. It is unpleasant to have to pay for a hotel and received this kind of treatment. This manager is the worst. how dare he be so incompetent and disrespectful.
