Super authentic Vietnamese place in Finchley Central with a family feel. We ordered summer rolls and pan fried fish to start and I had a prawn papaya salad as a main. I love that the summer rolls come with the tangy dipping sauce not the weird peanut sauce that most Vietnamese restaurants seem to serve these days. The pan fried fish came with vermicelli and paper rolls so you can roll them yourself (which we completely failed at). The papaya salad was quite spicy but I liked the kick. Portions are well sized so you don't have to worry about leaving hungry. Would definitely frequent if I was a local! read more

LOVE! Was really in the mood for some pho and randomly spotted Vy Nam while driving through Finchley Central so decided to stop and check it out. I ran in to see if they did take aways and they did, plus the fact is smelt devine and the staff were so friendly and welcoming meant I immediately knew I was buying dinner here. Between the two of us we had a prawn pho, a beef in black bean sauce and a noodle dish with chicken plus some summer rolls (yes, we're pigs!) They packed everything up beautifully (beware the pho, it does spill very easily as my poor flip-flopped foot found out in the car) and away we went. I'll admit it was very late by the time we got home and I wolfed my food down at the speed of light, but everything was as delicious as I knew it'd be. This will now be my number one stop for good Vietnamese food in north London! read more

I've been a regular at this place for over two years, although I must say the standard have gone down hill over the years whilst prices have increased quite rapidly. However, this is still one of the best Vietnamese restaurants I've been to so far. read more

Fresh and tasty. Spicy vegetables and noodles. My favourite things! Great when I want a hot bowl of noodles, the staff is really friendly and they let you just sit and relax and chat. I love bringing friends here because it's close by without having to go to East London. N3 isn't exactly the sort of area to which people make food pilgrimages. There are some 'solid' options - Two Brothers, various Turkish grills - but something worthy of a specific journey to Finchley Central? Probably not. However, the newly opened Vy Nam may just change that. Authentic? No idea. Tasty, excellent value, fresh & vibrant and smiley? Oh hell yes. Having never been to Vietnam, I can't comment on the 'authenticity' but I can comfortably say Vy Nam trumps everything I've tried on Kingsland Road and the soft shell crab would hold its own against similar offerings from some Michelin-starred Asian restaurants. Some unusual choices - char grilled goat for example - dot the menu, the expected dishes - summer rolls, papaya salads, etc - are excellent and zingy, and the 12 hour pho is a deep flavoured triumph and packed with decent chunks of protein. The only slight misfire on our second visit was a slightly underpowered (to these spice-addicted taste buds) curry. It was still good though and the service and setting are both charming enough to make such niggles almost irrelevant. I am, frankly, utterly delighted that it's in my neck of the woods but would also happily travel an hour or more to get there. Go. Soon. read more

This place is superb! Overall. Vy Nam, serves authentic Vietnamese dishes, which I must say, is absolutely fantastic. The staff are friendly and service is top notch. The flavours of the food here, is astonishing. You won't be dissapointed in terms of taste and portion sizes are reasonable. I have come here a few times and would definately recommend a few dishes. Well, I have been here twice. The first time resulted in me being sick after leaving the restaurant after about 20 meters. Projectile exorcist sort of sick. The second time I got a take away as put down the previous sickness to me and not attributed to the food. I was wrong. The soup had a layer of fat over it that was just wrong, the sauce from one of the meat dishes fell on the floor, unnoticed until the following morning when It was noticed as was the layer of varnish it stripped off the floor! That day was spent in bed drinking water and praying it would all end! So, as you can probably guess I won't be going back there and I am gutted that I've been put off one of my most favourite cuisines :(( read more

A really authentic Vietnamese place close to Finchley Central station. It gets pretty busy even on weekdays during 6-9pm. The pan fried fish starter is amazing where you wrap it in rice paper, a bit like summer rolls with some leaks and vermicelli noodles inside. It's best to go with a group of people so you can share a few dishes and taste different things! The summer rolls are a must as well in Vietnamese restaurants but this one wasn't the best here. I liked the papaya salad although it's more of a Thai dish, it's got a bit of spice as well. After a few starters, we ordered a mix of curry, pho, bun tit which is vermicelli with grilled pork and spring rolls. My favourite was the curry it wasn't too spicy and had lots of vegetables which is what I like. There's not much choice for desserts but all that food was plenty and with Vietnamese beer to go with all the food, we didn't have enough room for desserts anyway! read more

We had a good meal and a good time here with a party of 5, including a toddler. The food and the service were very good. Vy Nam is a storefront restaurant just 2 blocks from the Finchley Central tube stop. Street parking is easy if you arrive by car. The food was very tasty, and patronage was heavy. Had dinner here - we didn't have reservations but got there at about 6.15pm and they had an open table so we were seated quickly. Service was quick and friendly. I had the pho with mixed seafood and it was delicious - good broth and full of seafood and herb flavours. We also ordered summer spring rolls with tofu that had a nice homemade sauce. I dropped in this evening while on the way to somewhere else. At first sight it looks a little bright and bare, but the menu has all the usuals listed and is reasonably priced so thought that I would try it. The food is very good and reasonable sizes of servings. I am a regular at Mien Tay and other Kingsland Road Viet restaurants so am very familiar with whats on offer. I have to say it is equally as good as Mien Tay and is rather cleaner and tidier and the staff are a bit more friendly and less rushed and typically speak better English if your Viet is a little rusty. Prices are virtually exactly the same and a much closer place for me to get to. It attracts a slightly older age group who are a little more friendly and mostly will exchange a few words unlike at Mien Tay where they are too tied up with their mates. It will now be on my list of favourites! read more

This restaurant exhibits very nice combinations of deep- and stir-frying as well as curry combinations. For example: the soft-shell crab starter is perfectly cooked, and surrounded with western onions and salad-onion (scallion) tops that have been stir-fried with garlic, peppers, etc with a high level of skill. read more

Although this place has gained somewhat of a following since it opened and makes the overblown claim of serving the best Vietnamese food in London I was disappointed. I really wanted to love it as I sat there waiting for my takeaway, but for me it never got any better than average. My wife suggested it might be the dishes we picked but with 2 starters, 2 mains, a vegetable side and a rice I would've hoped to have stumbled across something a little less bland than we got. The soft shell crab starter was nice but I've definitely had better in numerous other places, the steamed Vietnamese buns were nothingy except for the pork sprinkled on top, I do mean nothingy too they had virtually nothing in them. The curry just tasted of re constituted curry powder and wasn't even hot. The prices too were extortionate for a takeaway at £38 for what we ordered. I would pay that happily if the standard of food came up to what VyNam and other reviewers would have you believe, unfortunately it just doesn't and I won't be bothering with them again. read more
