We found Vurma to be a sweet, warm little spot that was jam packed when we visited around 11:30 a.m. on a Friday. We were a bit confused about procedures (you order at the counter, find a table, wait for your food to be brought out), but managed to muddle through. The food took a very long time to arrive despite the fact that the restaurant was pretty quiet by around 12:30 -- but what we received was simple and good: a grilled sandwich for my better half; a shrimp salad for me; and pancakes for our little one.
My salad, the "shrimp / cold-roasted salmon, horseradish cream avocado" came without salmon (they were out), but I couldn't complain. I haven't been a fan of creamy dressings in this country until now; this cottage cheese-like concoction with intense wasabi or horseradish was sinus-clearing and thoroughly enjoyable. The portion size was generous by my standards and I enjoyed the dish more than comparable versions purchased at Hötorgshallen throughout the week.
There's free coffee and tea with lunch (advertised, but not brought to our attention). The coffee I tried was drinkable, but not good if you are a connaisseur of such things.
My husband loved his grilled sandwich, but found it to be on the smaller side. Our little one did not enjoy the pancakes, served with raspberry jam rather than his favored lingonberry preserves. But then again he is a very picky eater.
We shared a table with a really nice woman and her pup. That seems to be how things roll in this tiny, crowded cafe.
Verdict: There are a lot of vegetarian, pescatarian and vegan-friendly options. You get to know your neighbors. We found the food to be pleasant, if not spectacular, and the slow, indifferent-ish service would be livable if we knew what was going on. I'd probably be here all the time if I lived in Stockholm. read more
