Mr. Whiting is a great singing teacher. He is very friendly, and always has a sunny disposition. It's very easy to get along with him, and, as long as you notify Mr. Whiting in advance, he is always willing to re-schedule. I've been studying with him for almost a year now, and we have never had any disputes or disagreements.
As for teaching style, Mr. Whiting is top-notch, because his approach to teaching is very personalized and tailored to each student. My lessons are always based on the areas and techniques of singing that I need (or want) to improve. I get a chance to record each lesson, and practice with it at home. Mr. Whiting also gives warm-ups and vocal exercises as homework, which are great for improving singing abilities.
Mr. Whiting provides a very in-depth explanation of the biological mechanisms of singing (explaining the structure of the vocal folds, etc.). At first it might seem strange and unnecessary, but knowing about the inner workings of your voice does improve your singing. You can know and feel which parts of your abdominal muscles, for example, you're making too tense when you sing, or which ones you should put more effort into using. (And you also learn that singing requires the use of much more than just your throat.)
Most importantly, taking lessons with Mr. Whiting is fun. It is an enjoyable experience that will most definitely improve your technique as a singer, and teach you about the proper ways to study, memorize and perform a song. read more
