This was weird because over the phone the appointment was said to be made with the CPA herself. So just be sure when you make an appointment that you know who it's with and what will occur. The assistant after looking at all my tax papers gave me a quote for $350- 375, then a quote for $450- 475, then a quote for $550- 575, then was told that I would you would need to charge by the hour to look at one thing. I'm a small business owner, and they advertise specializing in small bushiness, so I'm not really understanding that why I would need to pay her to research something like that. For each increase in price I was told that it was because she didn't notice that my taxes would require "additional work" in certain areas. She gave me the first quote after looking at all of my papers and no new information was provided the first quote to the then open ended quote of apparently I'm guessing $550 + hourly, but we don't know how many hours? Not a great way to run a business in my opinion. I liked the CPA but when it comes down to it they're going to have to run their business like a business- they can't increase the price 4 times during a meeting. They should be able to read the forms, ask some questions, give an estimate. (Edit: I don't have a ton of "issues" as the buisness owner below says, I'm just a small business owner. In fact the first increase was because "they didn't know they needed a schedule c" even I know that and I wasn't pressuring them for a quick estimate, I was happy to answer any questions). Also, the office setting is not professional. It has a really bare bones feeling. We met in the lobby (I would a private setting) and sofa was super uncomfortable, painfully so. They say that people can come in and DIY taxes with someone helping to answer questions but the little cubicles were totally empty while I was in the office- probably because this DIY area had absolutely nothing to offer- they didn't even have coffee! But I moved to MD from VA and when I registered my car in MD, the credit union NEVER sent MD my title. Then I paid off the car a few months later and ended up getting the title from VA, because the credit union didn't send the title to MD when I had a lien like they were supposed, causing me to have to take time off work and make an additional trip to the MVA and title the car. Meanwhile, I have to now wait for the paper title from MD so I can sell the car. The credit union of course doesn't want to take accountability. They tried telling me that MD never requested the title. Total lies. I couldn't have registered my car in MD without filling out paperwork and including the lien holder info. I even have proof because MD sent me an email with Arlington Community CU listed as the lien holder stating they never sent them the title. What's even more insane is my Husband also paid off his Tahoe 3 months ago and we are STILL waiting on his title. He had to call up to the credit union and the rep told him, sorry it was an oversight - let me process that for you now. 3 months after the truck was paid off!!! They need to fix their title dept, they need new people who actually WORK. Never again will I ever do any business with this place!!!!

I've been a member of ACFCU -- and while there are a few good points, overall, I'm disappointed…read moreenough that I feel compelled to share some warnings. First, the staff support is inconsistent. Yes -- occasionally I've encountered employees who seemed friendly and willing to help. But more often than not, I found that many staff members were not helpful: interactions felt dismissive or indifferent, and I frequently got minimal or no meaningful assistance when I needed it. Second, I strongly believe ACFCU needs to update and improve their internal processes, especially around communication and loan servicing. Their procedures feel outdated and rigid, and when your loan gets passed to Midwest Loan Services (MLS), things become even more frustrating. From my experience -- and what I've seen from others -- MLS is unreliable, especially during tough times (for example government shutdowns or other financial stress). Their loan-management process is overly complex compared with other lenders, and responsiveness when problems arise is poor. Finally -- and perhaps most worryingly -- I am very concerned about how ACFCU handles my personal data. I once received mail from them that contained another customer's account information, despite the envelope window showing my name and address. That kind of mistake undermines any trust I might have had in ACFCU's data-handling practices. If they send sensitive documents to the wrong person by accident, how can I feel confident that my private information is secure? Because of all this, I do not recommend getting a loan through ACFCU -- at least not under current operations. For basic banking or everyday transactions, they might get by. But for anything more serious -- a loan, mortgage, or other product requiring sensitive data handling -- the risk and stress seem too high. Until ACFCU updates their processes and improves their data-security practices, I would urge others to proceed with caution.
