6/1/24 Decided that I will finally redeem the gift cards I received from Christmas & Vons is the closest to home (instead of Pavilions). First off, I know traversing a new store to me can be an adventure-so I look forward to it. I must admit, though that my first impression is that the sense of organization to the way that things are placed around the store is a bit unorganized. It makes sense to me that all dairy product should be at least within adjacent places to each other in a store. It took me a while, looking for cream cheese. I've had to ask a staff at least three times looking for items. One staff, Colleen, stopped and asked if I needed help because we must've passed each other at least 2-3 times as I was going up & down the aisles looking for items. She said "you've taken pictures "all over MY store..." I informed her that it's my first time at this store & I'm also "Yelping". She then proceeded to explain that it's been newly renovated & gave me a handout to help me navigate the store. Although she may have intended to help me, I couldn't help but think that I may made her nervous when I was taking photos. No harm, no foul, but it made me feel less welcome rather than feeling accommodated. It takes time for me to get acclimated to a new store & first impressions are important. Needless to say, her interaction with me was not altogether comforting. With all things considered, items, aisles not being very cohesive in their placement but still organized & labeled accordingly, store is clean....it's still a great market. If I could give it 3.5, I would, because I place prime importance on customer service. I was excited to explore this market until the manager made me feel intrusive at "her store". Perhaps it was not her intention but I really felt like I was not welcome in her store. I frequest in Vons Claremont, but this is the first time (since I moved to Claremont and the United States) that I encountered such a rude treatment. The butcher is super rude. So I was buying meat at the butcher section when I pointed what I wanted. I said "Shrimp the raw one" while pointing at the kind of shrimp I wanted. The butcher told me "You keep pointing I don't know what you meant" And then I pointed at another product saying "and then one pound of the cooked small shrimp too" while pointing at it. I visited this Claremont location for the first time while I was in the area with my husband and cousin, and from the moment we walked in, an older male associate began staring at us and following us around as if we were going to steal something. It was extremely uncomfortable and uncalled for. My cousin even asked if he was okay, and only then did he back off slightly--but he continued to keep his eyes on us the entire time. After checking Yelp, I realized we weren't the only ones who've experienced this kind of behavior here. It's disappointing and upsetting to see a pattern. I don't like pulling the race card, but it's hard to ignore how differently customers of color--especially Hispanic shoppers--are treated in this store. Nobody deserves to be profiled or made to feel like they don't belong. I truly hope management addresses this issue, as no one should be made to feel unwelcome or profiled while shopping. read more

Vons is a solid yet expensive grocery store and bakery. I usually come here for their pastries and fried chicken tenders which is way over priced but super amazing. The staff at Vons Bakery are very nice but seem overworked and tired often, but they remain professional and polite. The inside of the grocery store is standard and has a wide selection. I would not personally come here for anything besides, Produce which is often high quality and fresh or pastries/food at the bakery. Terrible customer service . I asked help from this associate and this lady didn't even really bother to check . The cashier asked her to check for me .I needed a box for the 6 bottles of wine that I purchased and she just said there's none . I got the bigger bottles so I just needed a box to secure them . This review is about Vons Bakery and I might be biased, but the bakery is AH-mazing. I've tried literally almost all the cakes, cookies, bagels, baked goods, and they're all superior in quality and taste. Some of my favorites are the Tiramisu, Dulce de Leche cake, and fruit tart (omg fruit tart is sooooo good). My sister is obsessed with the cheesecakes (the oreo flavor and original are really rich and decadent). We also like the cookies and muffins (choco chip are the best flavors for both). The cheese bagel and jalapeno cheese bagels are great staples for breakfast. Prices are great for the quality of baked goods. To be honest, I think Vons has the highest quality produce and ingredients - so I'm not surprised that they've been around and doing well for so long. if you order groceries online don't get them from this vons. I order groceries online and they debited two times for an order and this week. I made a purchase on Saturday for 102.50 and they debited me twice on two occasions leaving me with no money in my che king account. they now owe me $170 which they won't give back and basically told me there's nothing I can do about it. Vons Claremont was notified yesterday of the fact they have numerous fraudulent gift cards on the rack. Tried to get a refund, but was told no. I have the receipt of my purchase and the employee actually scratched off the cards from the rack and saw they were tampered with, just as mine were. I have to wonder if the manager, Colleen, knew about this and ignored it? Safeway doesn't care that customers are getting ripped off cause they get their money. Sometimes you can catch a certain manager having a BAD day and she yells at staff....totally unprofessional. The deli staff are ok. Sometimes they ignore you then try to sell you the crap they should dispose of. During this Covid-19 crisis, everybody is stressed. I purchased 3 Crystal Geyser water 2 for my family and one for handicapped/senior sister I take care of. I saw a couple in front of water in aisle. They filled up cart with at least 10 waters. The cashier told me "Limit of 2" I said are you sure? She reached in cart and took one water out! I showed her pic of couple walking out of store with 10 or more. I can't really comment on the service here because I never need it. I've been a patron here for almost two decades. Unless there is some significant restructuring or reorganization I generally know where to look. Besides, it's a very small and tight Vons, so there's not too many aisles to scour should the situation arise. But if I had to sum this Vons up in two words, it'd be: convenience over price. I could walk here in 3 minutes. That's casual strolling too. But if I desired competitive pricing, I'd hop on my bike and head over to Stater Brothers, on Foothill and Towne. If I wanted quality produce, I'd whistle for my dad, hop into his jeep, and head over to Sprouts (formerly Ralphs, then Albertsons, then Alpha Beta--ya I'm old skool) on Mountain and Foothill. But if it's nearing 12am and I want a goddamn bag of chips, I guess I'd just cough up $3.99 at Vons for mah Ruffles than scamper over to Stater Bros for $2.50. I usually go around 11:30 pm anyway. My husband and I arrived around 3:45 to get our flu shot. We waited 15 minutes to speak with a pharmacy staff employee. It was 4:00 when Christina came to our window. She rudely informed us that is was now 4:00 and they stop all shots at 4:00 and we would not be able to get one. I could understand if we had just arrived but we had waited 15 minutes to speak with someone. She rudely just walked away. Very disappointed in her attitude and behavior! This is a fine store with friendly employees, quality products, and enough items to meet most of my needs. I am removing a star because the procedures for entering check-out is more than a bit confusing. On multiple occasions, while waiting at the designated spot for an employee to notify me, or another customer, that they can proceed to the conveyor belt, an oblivious customer cuts everyone else in line as there is often no one monitoring or directing traffic. Most customers are very polite and don't say anything... but why should we? If you are going to require us to wait by the flowers, and you cannot afford to post another employee to direct traffic, you should open the lane closest to the floral department so as to mitigate further confusion. If you want customers to follow the rules, you need to make the rules equitable to all. read more

Just moved to the area and of course, I break a my foot. Searching all pharmacies for your meds when you have a prescription from your doctor can be very difficult. It's a law that pharmacies aren't allowed to tell you over the phone whether or not they have your medication. In my case, it was strong pain meds. We came from a town where the Vons was awful and didn't have a pharmacy. My husband drove all over town to every pharmacy trying to find my two medications. Then we found this Vons. Of course I was hesitant about Vons.. But, they not only had what I needed but the staff was terrific! I want to especially give a review to Wilson, the pharmacy manager. Wilson went out of his way to contact my Dr. more than once to try to get my meds approved before the weekend. Wilson personally called me the next morning to let me know that my meds were ready. When I arrived later that day (in a wheelchair), I saw Wilson but he was was obviously on his lunch break. He saw me and remembered me! He mentioned to come back because they were at lunch in the pharmacy for another 45 minutes. But asked for my paper script, which I gave him. When I returned, everything was ready to go and I didn't have to wait! Thank you Wilson! Vons is lucky to have you. What a kind, attentive, thoughtful and caring human being. We will now be switching all of our medications to Vons. read more

I have never been to such a rude store in my life. I've been coming here for 3 years now, telling myself it okay but now I'm done! A few months ago, the head lady in the bakery rushed me through a very important order of mine and even talked on the phone to her boyfriend in the middle of it. (She sadly did my order wrong in the end, it was for my daughters' 1st birthday) Today, they had over 8 people in line with one register open. They finally opened another and moved half of us over to it. As I'm starting to unload, the lady yells at me that this is an express lane, humiliating me even though they told me to go there. The first time I walked into Vons, I was confused....It looked exactly like the Safeways we have in Hawaii. I figured they were owned by the same company and was pleasantly surprised to find out I could use my Safeway card instead of having to get a Vons card. I come here at least twice a week for packaged food/snacks, bottled drinks, bread and sometimes meat and cheese, but I'm always really disappointed in their produce section.
