This is an eyewitness testimony: Earlier today, I sent…read moremy fiance to the PowellMinor ER Clinic (office name has been changed after multiple accusations of fraud) on Clinton Hwy because he had a terrible sore throat. Upon arriving, he was instructed to leave his driver's license at the desk until the appt. was over. After the exam, he was charged $85.00, with no explanation why it cost more than the normal charge. He was told to pay in cash or debit and the receipt was a hand-written one from a receipt book you could but at Wal-Mart. In order to get his prescription needed, he was then told that if he didn't purchase the medication from the clinic itself - there would be an additional charge to take the written prescription to an actual pharmacy. When he told me this, I asked what the cost of the prescriptions (an antibiotic & a steroid) were...I was told that the information could not be given to me. The doctor explained to my fiance that one would be approx. $65 and the other approx. $55. When my fiance went back to purchase the medication, he was charged $171. I'm no mathmetician - but there is quite a profit in there for the clininc. When he asked for an itemized receipt for both prescriptions - the doctor refused to give out the information. At this point, we have no idea what the exam costs were for OR how much the 2 prescriptions ACTUALLY cost, but because we have no health insurance...it appears that we are at the mercy of thieves like this. I am telling everyone I know about this scam and I warn anyone who reads this to aviod this particular clinic at all costs!

The staff informed me they could not get her as a new patient because she had never had her shots. I said "what kind of a doctor will not get her as a new patient when they are accepting new patients because she never had her shots. She is wanting to be compliant and establish a primary care physician as she is attending college in the fall and wants to get her shots, but how does someone do that when a doctor won't see them". They said "it is Summit Medical's policy not to accept new patients that have never gotten their shots." I said "that is absolutely ridiculous!" The nurse in Dr. Lakins office hung up on me. I now understand that it is Summit Medical policy, however, their candor and behavior is unacceptable. I would never recommend Dr. Lakin or his staff to anyone wanting to get a doctor/staff that truly cares about their patients. That was absolutely inappropriate on their part and totally disrespectful as all I was trying to do is help my granddaughter. The only Doctor that I would recommend there is Dr. Thornton and his nurse April. They are amazing. But I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND to ANYONE WANTING A CARING STAFF TO GO TO DR. LAKIN. Dr Hunter has a unique sense of humor and has lots of interesting stories to keep you occupied during her exam. If you have ever felt like "just a number" or "just a patient" at another doctor give Dr Hunter a try. She listens to everything you have to say and I can tell is GENUINELY concerned about your health and well being. I have congestive heart failure, diabetes, high blood pressure, you name it. My other doctor had been prescribing the same medications FOREVER. Dr Hunter was not afraid to try some different meds and I am happy to say I have never done better. She will pray for you if requested. If a 6 or 7 was an available score, she would get it from me!!!!
