BON VONAGE! We had Vonage home VoIP for about 7+ years. At first, it seemed like a smart move & decent price, solid service, and it did what it was supposed to do. Unfortunately, that version of the company appears to have retired years ago. What replaced it was a masterclass in charging more while delivering less: steady price hikes, declining reliability, poor value, and customer service so ineffective it almost felt performance art. The phone somehow managed to fail most when we actually needed it. I called multiple times and made it clear I was ready to cancel unless the issues were fixed. The response? Indifference. Most calls turned into a time-wasting combination of hold music, transfers, "can i place you on a two min hold and check what i can do for you?" x 7 and unresolved problems. Then, as a final punchline, they'd send an email asking me to refer friends and family for a tiny reward and rate the agent I had just spoken with. Bold strategy. I honestly don't know how they're still around. We finally canceled for good, and it has been one of the more satisfying administrative decisions we've made. I would never recommend them, never use them again, and if they were the last phone company on earth, I'd probably start sending letters. read more

I was drawn to Vonage because they advertise that prices start at $13.99 for a single line, which seemed like a great deal. But when I called to get set up, I was told that with taxes and fees, the monthly total would be between $26 and $30--more than double the advertised rate. I understand that taxes and fees exist, but this level of markup feels deceptive. If the real cost is over $25/month, then $13.99 is clearly not an accurate starting point. It's disappointing and feels like a classic case of bait-and-switch pricing. I expect more transparency from a company in the communications business. This is for Vonage for Home. One star because the purpose of VOIP service is to make and receive phone calls, but for many months I often haven't been able to do either. I have talked with tech support many times, but they don't seem to be able to fix the issue. I believe the problem is a routing issue, but they don't seem to listen to that. read more

It's ironic that for a phone service you can't make contact with the company by phone. Only via chat support that is slow, cumbersome and highly annoying. I have been trying to get an additional line to function with them for 3.5 hours now and still no success. My "customer support" person, Dusthaker, keeps asking me the same questions like "can you give me the extension number?" We've been working on the SAME extension all along. Vonage will silently keep you under an annual contract and "make mistakes" that make it look like you working under a month to month agreement. If you want to remove unused extensions or reduce your service they will charge very high penalties for doing so and claim you are under an annual contract even though they cannot produce the contract. They have horrible support that seems unable to actually help with issue. They randomly decide they are going to charge for things they didn't charge you for before. It is a shame that they don't have management that cares about actually retaining customer. Stay away from them. read more

If I could give a minus 10 on my experience with Vonage business phone service, It still would not reflect the lies I was told when I signed up telling the customer service liar that I made 90% of my calls on cell phone. She said it works great and I finally just had to bite the bullet and do the early termination as their hostage fees cannot cost nearly as much as I have lost in revenue without a phone I could count on. I have now switched to Verizon One Talk and it seems so much more professional. I cannot even speak to a live person since the salesperson with Vonage. Worse Company ever. They don't care about customer or their time, avoid at all costs. I have business account and you never get to person to solve any issues. The left hand doesn't know what right hand is doing. WARNING. After discovering that the phone service that I had had for years no longer had much of any customer service or help with any issues, I decided to move my VOIP system to a local company that had real people to answer the phone. I started the process of moving my business phone number on March 3, 2021. The local numbers took over a month to get transferred over, as Vonage would refuse the documentation sent to them by the local company. The documentation being screen shots of my Vonage account, and documents that I had signed for the service. I also have 2 toll free numbers, which were finally release on May 14th, for the same address. It took getting the FCC involved to get my numbers, numbers this company had owned for decades. It took forever to figure out how to cancel the service. First, I tried to follow their phone tree, that failed miserably. I then called their sales, and low and behold a real person answered, I explained the issue and he transferred me to the customer management team. Basically, from the time I called to getting off the phone was more than half an hour. Now they want to charge me an extra month of service, because my service was month to month. I tried to argue that I had started this process in the beginning of March and the hold up for cancelling was them refusing to release my numbers. The lady on the phone argued that it could not have happened that way and I would be charged this month as well. These last few months has been a nightmare with my company phones. I have been a customer for 10 years and now you talk to chats or a virtual voice when you have a problem or fill out a form. Chats refuse to give you a phone # where you can speak to a Human being stating they have no such #. I called three phone #'s and was given the same service, none. I have spoken to a Human Being in the past and find that the way you make contact with a Vendor you pay for a Service too would at least have a # to speak to a human being. Vonage business has NO support by phone. You can only troubleshoot and get technical support via chat. They will not TALK to you unless it's to SELL you something. Once they have sold you the service, you can only get help using the service via chat. It just doesn't work well for business to be texting away on a chat while you're trying to deal with clients. When I do try to chat to get help it takes anywhere from 30-45 minutes to get an agent to chat with and they're not very helpful. I am dealing with the SMS registration I have been trying to complete since March 2024. It is now almost the end of May 2024 and nothing is resolved, I can't text out my appointment confirmations and all because I keep going around in circles with Vonage. I am looking into alternatives now, but I hope my review will keep others from contracting Vonage. We have had Vonage since may 2012. They do not value customer retention. read more

We had the Vonage Business service for at least 6 years but, in the last few months, the phone was ringing but we could not hear the voice of the people that made the phone call. I tried to contact customer service, it does not exist. I spent hours trying to get a person to resolve the problem but it was impossible to get any help. Without phone service but paying Vonage bills, we decided to transfer our phone to another provider but, when we tried to cancel the service with Vonage Business, it was impossible to do it. We provided Vonage Business our credit card number, so, since I could not canceled with Vonage, I called the credit card company and I changed the credit card number removing the automatic update card number for the vendors. My god run run run so far away from this company. I worked with this company for years and then found a better service provider. I canceled our account and have a receipt showing that. They then proceeded to continue taking money from my company business bank account on a monthly basis through ACH for years. We have been in regular contact with this company insisting in writing and with phone calls that they stop billing us for services that were discontinued. Every time we were told it was canceled yet every month they hit our account and bill us again. This has been nothing short of a complete scam. We finally just had to cancel our bank account and move on. The services this company provides can be found by better providers everywhere, better service, and better pricing. The real problem with this company is honestly that they are 100% a scam. You can of course always cancel your account at least that's what the contract says, in reality, this company will make it impossible to cancel. This review is for Vonage VoIP residential Service. Vonage CUSTOMER SERVICE and TECH SUPPORT are NON-EXISTENT. Today is April 25 and I have NOT received any phone calls from the beginning of April, they go directly to Voicemail. Checked Settings multiple times, tried to forward calls to another number - ALL to no avail. I've been calling Vonage continuously. Out of 4 Vonage numbers listed on website NONE is functional - there are no people on the other end, just recording. I contacted Vonage via Chat on April 5, 2022. After an hour wait a guy asked me to reset Vonage Adapter - done. Than I had to find someone to call me in order to test it - the Phone Call did not come through. I was assigned a case number and was assured that a Tech Rep would contact me via email. It's been 20 days and NOBODY has. I bought new Panasonic Phone Set - did not help either. Still cannot receive ANY Phone Calls. Initiated another chat on April 23. Once again - useless, they dropped the chat without finishing the conversation. Meanwhile I am missing many important phone calls including work-related - this is unacceptable! I have been a customer of Vonage for 20 years. Last month I called to cancel and got a run around requiring pin numbers of when I set up the account...I didnt know that info. I gave them the credit card info which they are billing and was told was incorrect. I told them to cancel anyway. This month I was charged again and I called and got the same run around...even when told I was talking with a Senior Manager. This amounts to false advertisement! They make the sale nevertheless, but are incompetent, unable to provide the service and most of all totally unavailable for Customer Service. I was a Vonage residential customer for almost 20 years. In the past few years the call quality has continually slipped and the pricing had inched up. A couple years ago I switched to their (discounted?) annual pre-pay. The second year it went up about $50. This year it went up another $100. I never received a notification that the were about to renew the year and never had an inkling of what the new annual charge would be until it hit my credit card. This year I'd had enough. I called them. Spent 45 minutes waiting to talk to a rep who barely spoke english, on a line so noisy and echo-ey that even if she did speak English, I wouldn't have been able to understand her. She wouldn't refund the annual prepay and return me to month to month as I requested so I decided to just switch services. The switch was completed within 2 weeks of the posting date of the annual charge but I have not been able to get any refund and seeing as they closed my account, I can't even reach them by phone to discuss. I contested the charge on my credit card and they refuted my claim. So I'm still trying to get the better part of m $527 back but I have since switched to 1-Voip. So far, so good. A fraction of the price, excellent ENGLISH SPEAKING customer service and they completed the port of my phone number very quickly. Fingers crossed. Stay away from Vonage. read more

When CenturyLink told me I could not have Price-For-Life Internet if I had my landline with them, I changed my phone service to Vonage. Vonage said I could block some phone numbers, but I got calls from two of those blocked numbers. So that didn't work. When I tried to make a call, my phone would beep 6 times before I could get a dial tone. They fixed that, but it returned. So that didn't work. My answering machine was not recording messages. Vonage told me to get a new answering machine. I did, but the new answering machine still did not record messages. So that didn't work. I cancelled my service with Vonage and moved back to CenturyLink, to a new Price-For-Life phone service. That finally worked! On the remote chance that Vonage is still in business, do not use them as your phone company. You will undoubtedly find that it does not work. read more

Worst company I've ever dealt with. No customer service to speak of. My phone went down one day and it took me a whole day to get them up and working. The problem with this company is there's no one you can call. Any time I've had a problem I was only able to chat with them on line. Now I'm trying to discontinue my service and they seem to be holding my phone numbers hostage. I've been trying to get them to release my numbers for 3 weeks now and all's I get is the run around. When I chat with them on line they give me numbers to call to get help but when you call those numbers the recording tells you to go on line to there chat room. You just go around in circles. When I go back on line they tell me this and that but no one ever helps me get this problem resolved. The carrier I'm switching to says this is a very common problem with Vonage Business. Vonage totally just jacked me. lol... I opened an account for two lines and fax just to try them out, but I was never able to log in. Technical support couldn't figure it out. They said it was strange and never got back to me. I must've tried restarting the password, with them on the phone, around 8 or 9 times. But not always with technical support, but anybody who would help me... each department thinking it's the first time they're helping me, I'm telling each different person each time exactly what they're going to do, what's going to happen, and how the calls going to end, and nobody seemed to believe me even though I have a file with notes about my account troubles. In the end I'm not reimbursed - company policy - and I told them look I'll keep the account active but you guys can't help me log in. If you could just log me in I'll be happy. So finally today on the 10th person who wanted me to log in I said either you set me up with a new account or we'll have to cancel - because I literally have no other choice but to cancel. What else was I to do? pay for a service I wasn't able to use for another month? So in the end the story goes they take my money and cancel my account. I've never been bullied like that before. And they give you the run around with a 1,000 questions and trying to prevent the cancel or sell something else. This company is one of the worst I have ever dealt with. The customer service is totally useless. Around February of this year I decided to move my phone number to Vonage and agreed to their contract for a monthly service fee of $25.00. From day one I could not get the phone to work. I called customer service multiple times and they would read off a script trying to get the phone to work. It never did and the only solution they came up with was to forward my house calls to my cell phone, leaving me with no house phone capabilities. To add insult to injury after six months I get a bill for $42.46. I called their useless customer service who told me it was a promotion rate and that my contract was valid to December. I told them that since they can't provide me with home phone service, I was leaving them and my service was transferred away from Vonage on 9/7/21.
