We came here to look around and it's a beautiful store! We mainly looked at the dresses downstairs. Some looked worth the price, others looked like you could get something similar at Ross. The prices are expensive. It is supposed to be high-end, but the look of certain items look like they could be priced lower due to looking just as good as discount stores. The woman that manages the downstairs dresses department seemed nice at first asking how we are. However, it seemed she had an attitude. I don't like to say she did something for sure, as we don't know if she was just tired or didn't know she was coming off that way. However, we were standing in front of the dressing room. I was deciding whether or not to try the dress on and she again asked if we need anything. We said I was going to try the dress on and she said "in there" with a rude tone. Then, my boyfriend was going to come with me and she said "just her" with another monotone voice. She didn't smile at all during talking to us, even when she asked how we are doing. We have really come to appreciate the ambiance here. They have professionals playing the piano and you can hear while walking through the various areas, as well as through the speakers in the dressing rooms. Nice touch. I've never had anyone come up to help me while shopping but I appreciate not being bothered while looking around. It can be difficult to find someone at a checkout register but you're likely to find someone by dresses or shoes. Though this place is pricier, it always reminds me of the old days and walking through a department store for various things. They have a good selection of nicer dresses for formal events and a good selection of everything else on the higher end. read more

Shopping at Von Mauer is a nice experience. I love the live classical piano playing and it sets the ambiance immediately. Maybe most people don't care, but I actually stopped and listened a few times because of the outstanding the pianist playing some fine classical piano music. The merchandise is a mix: For men they only carry the larger sizes...not everyone is M or L. Many fashionable stores carry smaller sizes (fashionable men are slimming down....). Women's section is a toss up. I've been able to find a few nice/unique/stylish items however. Jewelry-Costume - I was looking for Yurman and found some Lagos instead. First Von Maur I have been to and absolutely loved it. The customer service was on par with Nordstrom (e.g. fabulous). The selection and presentation of Adidas apparel was the best I have seen ever. Even better than an Adidas store I have been to! We also got several other men's jackets. They have free gift wrapping of any of your purchases and they text you when it is ready for pick-up. Shoddy workmanship installing James Avery charms. I bought a child's bracelet with 3 charms in November 2022 from James Avery.com. Then in July 2023 I had Von Maur install 4 charms. Currently, 3 of the 4 charms installed by Von Maur have fallen off and have been lost. Last week I went to Von Maur and the Manager told me if I had the charms they would be happy to re-install them. However, since the charms have been lost there is nothing they can do for me. The 3 charms that were installed by James Avery.com are still attached while 3 of the charms installed by Von Maur 9 months later have fallen off. Since it is obvious that Von Maur's shoddy workmanship led to the loss I am extremely unhappy with this outcome! I believe this poor customer service reflects badly upon Von Maur. UPDATE: Although Von Maur refuses to take responsibility for their shoddy workmanship, James Avery has agreed to install new charms to replace the lost charms free of charge. Kudos to James Avery for doing the right thing!!!! read more

I can not say enough positive thoughts about the store, the merchandise, and the organization but the best of all is the Human Resources they were able to hire. The seller are outstanding, The attention and time they are willing to provide the customers is hard to find in other stores. They were attentive to your needs and not pushy about making sales. I was greeted courteously by staff in every department I entered but nobody was hanging over my shoulder. Being the shoe whore that I am I browsed into the men's footwear section. I was immediately greeted by a saleswoman who introduced me to the organization of the department and how the selection was arranged... new arrivals, sales and clearance! I was awestruck by the enormous discounts in the clearance section and purchased a pair of dress/casual boots priced at $180 for $35. All beige and blue open plan fake antiques, a farm town's idea of sophistication. Why pay full price when the same brand can be had at Boston Store for at least 40% less on sale. Stopped in here yesterday to see what all the hype was about. This place reminds me of a high end Boston Store or Macy's with the price tag to boot. With the exception of a very small sale selection, most items are sold at MSRP. The area surrounding the store is comprised of other retailers and a grocery store. The parking is a mix of street like parking a surface lot and structure. If your looking for high end shopping this may be your place. For me it will probably be a while before I return. I am so very disappointed in this retail establishment, in the past customer service was the pillar of their retail establishments, I even worked for them seasonally within the last decade and it was a privilege to represent a company that put the customer first regardless. I went back there yesterday after mi this of not shopping due to the pandemic, I purchases hundreds of dollars of items which included 4 items off of the clearance rack for my husband. Nothing was said to me about their new policy of not returning clearance items. I brought them home and none of them fit my hubby (pandemic pounds perhaps), all I wanted to do was exchange for larger sizes and was told I'm sorry, we have this new policy, didn't you see the signs. No, I didn't and it would have been courteous and professional to tell me this, especially since the gentlemen checking me out knew that I was buying over two hundred dollars of clearance items. With their former reputation for service, this would have been an expectation. Now I'm sitting with four items that are worthless, I would never have bought them under the circumstances. I spoke with the Manager Nicole and received canned answers only including telling me, well we have signs up. I entered the shopping experience with my former expectations, I told her I would pay off my card and cut it up, my long time advocacy for this establishment as being something unique and special is done, they are just another store now and definitely not worth a special trip for me. There is NOTHING unique about their customer service anymore. They have lost a long-standing customer sadly. read more

I was in this store for the first time ever on Thurs. Aug. 26 around 2:30pm. Absolutely loved the talented pianist!! Sunny in shoes and a very, very kind older gentleman (so sorry I didn't catch his name, but I believe he was also working in shoes and possibly a manager?) both assisted me. Both employees were so professional and incredibly friendly. The gentleman even walked over to the mens' dept to ask if we'd found what we were looking for, and engaged us in great conversation. I love how they'll ship your purchases to your home for free - we were traveling and couldn't really fit more in our suitcases, but I found a great deal on a pair of Silver Jeans shorts and some New Balance shoes, hubs found some items as well. I hope someone there knows the man I'm talking about and gives him a raise. He is an asset to your company for sure. After he spoke with me, he was helping some young girls (elementary school age) find shoes and he was so sweet to them as well. I'm just sorry I missed the famous shoe clearance room - how did I not see that??! Next time for sure. I tried on a winter coat I liked. An employee came up to me and as I took it off to look at it further she ripped it out of my hands and said sarcastically "I'll hang it up for you. " then she looked at my infant grandchild and said "you should probably keep walking so he doesn't make any noise." NEVER have I been treated so rudely. First visit and was impressed right off by the underground parking(!) . The lot was clean, bright with sparkling holiday lights. The store was lovely, well set up, clean and full of product. Sales staff were very friendly, even the display workers were helpful and kind. But.....it may seem like a small thing, but the Beauty Department needs to have a staff training meeting about how to address older women. I am a retired financial professional with decades of experience in management. I have also worked in retail, even at beauty counters back in the day. I don't need some young woman disrespecting me, even unknowingly. These girls have no idea who they are addressing while they work, so treating everyone politely is key. These young ladies were friendly and helpful, but I felt cross-examined with questions by one salesperson, and the other kept calling me "dear." I really don't care if it is a personal habit, that word is not called for outside the family. Please emphasize to your staff that calling an older woman 'dear' is condescending and offensive. So is 'honey' or any other diminutive word directed at women. read more
