I purchased a GSD from Vom Dreifke German Shepherds (June 2016). I purchased my dog for home protection because I travel for work almost 180 days per year. I found their breeding to be superior by far to other breeders I checked. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the kennels and the training setup. After some routine obedience training with the Vom Dreifke crew they saw excellent potential in ongoing training for my dog and myself. Vom Dreifke staff helped my GSD, Ryker obtain a certification for PSA1. I found the animals at Vom Dreifke to have strong nerves,excellent temperament with a strong ball drive. Ryker has a very strong bond with my family, espically my daughter who is 12. Ryker loves to play with our 2 year old Chihuahua,Prissy! Ryker was called to duty when an individual attempted to steal our four wheeler. My family was alerted by Ryker and our Pyrenees,Clyde, who stays in our pasture protecting goats. At approx. 3 am Ryker was let out the front door to investigate and almost immediately responded to the threat! He latched on to the gentleman's arm and was made to hold until the local sheriffs deputies arrived.(almost 8 mins). See attached pics. About four years ago (give or take some months), I began my search for a companion to myself and my husky, Ember. I found many breeders, and GSD rescue shelters (which I did consider, however I really wanted a GSD I could raise from a puppy and seeing the temperament of the parents can really allude to their offspring's future). Needless to say, I went with Gayle! Fast forward a few years, Kaizer has hands down been the best (dog) friend i've ever had. He has such a personality and is incredibly intelligent. Any issues i've ever had with him were my own fault, and I can say that one of my favorite things about Gayle is that shes willing to help in any capacity that she can. I've been friends with her since the day I got Kaizer, and she's always been able to help me out with any questions/concerns. I'm not sure about this negative review, nor did anyone ask me to write this. I purchased a Belgian Malinois cross Dutch Shepherd from Vom Drefike and wow talk about an amazing dog! Oley is his name and is the highlight of my life along with my chocolate lab! Vom Drefike does such an amazing job with all of her dogs! Whenever you have a question she is there to answer them no matter what time it is! I have been down to her residence multiple times to visit the dogs and all are happy and healthy! I have been to other breeders, but I feel that none of them puts the time and effort into raising them like Vom Drefike! I highly recommend her as a breeder! If you're looking for a well bred German Shepherd dog, I'm not sure this is the place to go. If you're looking for a promising adult "rescue" German Shepherd, you're going to want to look elsewhere. Note: I'm looking for a German Shepherd to train as a service dog because I'm disabled with PTSD. This was made abundantly clear to Gayle. I have experience training my own service dog in the past, and I'm looking for a replacement for my first service dog (who worked beautifully for me until retirement). I saw a "rescue" listed on her website, advertised as knowing basic obedience and riding well in a car. When I arrived to visit her facility, she told me the dog had been in training to be a service dog and had the perfect temperament for it. She told me that health screening hadn't been done since the dog was a rescue, and that screening would have raised the dog's price from an already whopping $700 to an even more impressive $1500 (for a "rescue" dog, no less). Since her kennel seemed to be a good place and the price was already $700, I figured that the dog was most likely healthy. She also assured me that she knew the original breeder of the dog, and when I asked who it was she just told me they don't breed anymore. I missed these warning signs, unfortunately. After nearing two weeks at my home, this dog has barely come out of her shell. She has incredibly high anxiety and I find it hard to believe that anyone (much less an experienced dog trainer) could mistake this extreme anxiety for resembling the temperament a service dog needs. She jumps at every sudden movement or noise, especially if made by strangers. After taking her to a vet, the vet told me he could believe she was three years old (the advertised age) but that she could easily be older due to significant tooth tartar/graying muzzle. She ended up testing heartworm positive and had hookworms. It was around this time that I started to notice something funny about the dog - when it was colder, she had a "bunny hop" to her run and was completely unable to handle hardwood flooring with additional difficulty on all stairs. This worried me as I know German Shepherds are extremely prone to hip dysplasia. So, I had a friend of mine, who has lots of experience with dogs and GSDs in particular, look at her run. He came to the same conclusion - it looks like she has hip dysplasia. Furthermore, the original claim of this dog's knowledge of basic obedience simply didn't pan out. After two weeks of owning this dog, she shows no sign of knowing any basic obedience whatsoever - other than "sit" which she finally got after multiple training sessions. Even luring her into a "down" barely has her stay there. These are not signs of a dog who knows its basic obedience. Even her claim of riding nicely in a car isn't panning out - the entire time she is quite anxious, even digging at the seats on occasion, and whining. With all of these considerations, I contacted Gayle and asked for a refund. Now, when I purchased this "rescue" dog in the first place, I was not told about her no refund policy. But I would think that any respectable breeder, when asked for a refund due to a dog not being as advertised, would at the very least offer a partial refund or immediately being able to rehome the dog with the promise of a future refund. I did not get that with Gayle. She simply talked me in circles. She is technically right - she didn't promise a dog that was hip dysplasia free - but she did promise that she had seen zero sign of it whatsoever. However, it was quickly clear to me that there was a sign of it. Yes, "bunny hop" running and a complete inability to navigate hardwood floors isn't always a sure call for hip dysplasia, but it is a BIG warning sign of it - a warning sign she claims to have not seen. She also didn't promise a dog free of health issues. But the positive heartworms and hookworms indicate she likely didn't use any heartworm prevention or at least didn't worm her dogs properly. Hookworms are transmitted from dog to dog. There are also obvious signs of hookworms that dogs display - lack of appetite, weight loss - signs that this dog was very obviously displaying. She either didn't know - and therefore doesn't pay much attention to the wellbeing of her dogs - or she didn't care, indicating that she's not as reputable as she makes herself out to be. You can decide for yourself if you're willing to risk getting a dog from her after reading this, but I know I won't, and I know I'll never recommend her to anyone I know. read more

I purchased a German Shepherd from Gayle a week ago today. His temperament is great! And I know he's only been here a week, but he is adorable! He still lets everyone hold him and he is playing with our other dog. He is a fun dog!. Gayle is very knowledgeable about her puppies and her adult dogs. I was given the dog's shot record some medicine for his stomach and some free samples of pills to help his immune system. He passed the vet's exam yesterday with "flying colors"! I'm glad that I met Gayle and that i took the drive to see her litters. Gayle is a wonderful and a great breeder and dog handler. My fiance and I purchased a Dutch/Mal from Vom Dreifke last October. Our boy is almost a year this month!! It was the best decision ever! Baloo has high drive but is such a loving dog! We made sure to dedicate lots of time and attention to him and correct behavior (biting on my shoes lol) when needed. Since we both have full time jobs, we placed Baloo in training to continue to work on his commands. In addition, we use WAG to have Baloo walked during lunch time when we aren't home. We both understand this breed requires exercise on a daily basis and needs to be challenged. On weekends, we take Baloo to dog parks where he can interact with other dogs. He never gets in fights and loves to chase and play with other dogs. He only gets defensive when he needs to be. He is more on alert when I'm walking him alone without my fiance. That is just him being protective of me. However, when my fiance is around he is not defensive and isn't on alert so much since he knows he is there with me. Baloo has never bitten anyone or hasn't gotten to the point where he can't be controlled. He listens when told what to do and is a great companion overall. All he wants to do is play and be chased around. I love my dog so much and can't wait for another one! read more

We purchased two GSD puppies from Vom Dreifke about six months apart. Gayle was easy to work with and answered all of our questions with our first puppy. Wylie was our first dog ever and he's been great with us and great with all of our friends and family. We decided that we wanted a second GSD and we went right back to Gayle and picked up Jameson who was almost the same age as Wylie but was back with Gayle after he didn't work out as a bomb sniffer (apparently the other sniffer dog strongly preferred being an only child). We had a trip coming up and Gayle offered to introduce the dogs to one another while boarding Wylie. That was an amazing help. After picking them up, 5 minutes into the ride home, the two of them were sleeping next to each other on the back seat. All of her dogs are her family until they find a home of their own. All puppies that are born, are born in her home and handled daily by her and her family. She is also AKC inspected(meaning AKC inspects her kennels to insure they are up to AKC standards) and not many breeders can say they have that.
