It's really a shame I have to give such a negative review to a local restaurant because in all honesty Whitehorse needs some more local flavour.
Before yelp I had a few rules I followed when it came to picking restaurants I've never been to. Make sure there are people in the dining room and stay away from restaurants that are attached to hotels. Volare did not meet either of these requirements, then again the Skky hotel looks more like a motel.
Yes it's spelt skky, it's not a type-o, I really wish it was.
On the inside they did a pretty good job with the interior, you can tell they spent a lot of time and effort in the renovation. They have a fireplace in the middle of the restaurant that would have been a nice touch only if it was actually turned on. When we came they had their continental breakfast supplies on a table in the corner instead of putting them out of sight from everyone else, that is just lazy and does take away from the luxury dining experience they are going for.
I ordered the prosciutto wrapped scallops appetizer as I wasn't very hungry, they arrived as little rubber pucks and did not smell that fresh. Perhaps it was my mistake for ordering scallops up in the Yukon. My dad ordered the Thai chicken bowl which he described as bland and tasteless, $25 for that dish was just insult to injury.
Both of these items took an unusually long time to arrive at our table, about 40 minutes. Normally I wouldn't mind but there was only one other table at the time.
As much as I would like to support local restaurants neither my father or I will be coming back for a while, I do hope they change for the better. read more
