I've been taking "Yoga 1" and it's a little difficult, definitely not gentle yoga, but very doable for a motivated beginner and you can alter the pace to your liking. They also play ambient music during the session and there is a short meditation at the end. I have since downgraded the difficulty level to their newest class "yin yang" and it's 75 minutes long and not as intense but still a real good workout. I feel challenged but not pushed to the edge of my limits as with yoga 1. I also sometimes take their restorative yoga class which is long stretches and relaxing. Really good class if you want a gentle practice. They have a solid introduction package which consists of $40 for unlimited Yoga classes for 1 month! They have free tea and water available right next to the reception area and you can rent a yoga mat for $2 if you decide not to bring your own. It's less than a 5 min walk from Lionel Groulx and St. Henri metro stations. If you drive, there is paid street parking in the area.

I have been…read moregoing to Yoga Hana for 6 months now and I think that Yoga Hana is by far the best yoga studio in town. The most amazing thing about this place is the quality of the teaching. Patrick is an incredible teacher, so knowledgeable and experienced. He will tailor your yoga practice to you. He knows how to challenge you but also when you should ease off and relax. He always makes you feel like he is there for you. He is also attentive and caring. He knows everyone by name and will take the time to get to know you. Unlike the big yoga classes with 50 people all trying to fight for a spot, the classes at Yoga Hana are small so that the teacher gives you a good amount of attention. There is also a great sense of community and inclusiveness. People from all levels go to Yoga Hana so it is not intimidating. The studio is in a large and super clean space, with big windows and plenty of space to move around. But it has a homey feel. Kitchen is accessible. Bathroom is always clean with shower, towels and all the supplies (soap, shampoo, lotion). Plenty of spaces to leave your mat and other yoga supplies so you don't have to lug it around every time. I love that the studio is lit with soft light and candlelight in the evening, it is so peaceful. The flexibility of the schedule is also a big plus for me. Classes are essentially taught throughout the day as early as 6h30am and finishing as late as 8pm. I highly recommend this place to anyone interested in yoga, from the new to the advanced student, or somewhere in between, like me.

The yoga studio is enormous but from outside you wouldn't be able to guess that. It is on the second floor, and you are greeted by the receptionist with warm smiles. The changing room is huge with bathroom stalls, shower stalls, a counter to clean your yoga mat, few sinks, and a wall of full of lockers. Then, there is nice waiting area with benches. Then we move deep inside the building and we find a huge studio for our hot yoga classes. That class can hold almost 40 people. The hot yoga comes from the heated lamp around the class. So far I enjoyed my classes immensely. The instructors are really good; they are very helpful with fixing or helping our postures. Note: all the classes are in French. There are various classes such anti stress, abdo/postures, wake up and many more. Definitely recommended!

I find that they really help make sure I hold the posture correctly and they really pay attention to the yogis, all while teaching creative and challenging poses. Even though I have been doing hot yoga on and off for 4 years, I still find myself being corrected from time to time. The room is always hot, never too much nor too little and I find that my focus is great in this studio because the other yogis are not as distracting. The installations, changing room and showers are not the most modern, but they do the job just fine. The changing room is spacious and they offer good tea after each practice. But the obvious best thing about this yoga studio is the eucalyptus wet cold towel they offer in shavasana!

If it's your style, you will love it (I sure do). I've tried their swedish massage, shiatsu massage and a mix of the two. They were all great. They do insurance receipts, too. I haven't tried their yoga (because covid), but it would probably be very nice. Good covid measures, too. Only downside is the price, it's quite expensive compared to other places. Makes me question whether I shouldn't try other places nearby that are a bit less cute, but might give me the same relaxing benefits. I do recommend it however, especially if you can catch a discount or aren't as cheap as I am :D

i can only talk about a one time drop in to the Sattva Yoga Shala in Montreal…read more i m traveling a lot and its hard to keep up with my ashtanga practice, hotel rooms are not always roomy enough and they lack motivation. so after a day off in Montreal i decided to try to go to the Yoga shala of well known Darby and Joanne that got taught a long time ago from Guriji himself. i did not expect them to be there although it would have been kind of awesome, they travel and teach a lot. i did ask the day before if there would be a class , as there is a full moon today and they answered promptly that there is... the website told new students or drop ins to come around 7.30 for Mysore practice so i was there just before 7.30am. first of all i did not find any sign for Sattva Yoga Shala, there was a Yoga place but not with that name, i still entered as i saw people practicing. no receptionist or anything but clearly people doing ashtanga yoga, so i rolled out my matt and started. for about 15 minutes there was no teacher at all, then she showed up and just started assisting. i did get assist in down dog( pressing back) but nothing else, thats ok though, i rather have teachers that not know me not go full on hands on assist without any knowledge of my body and my needs. i do have to say that i would have appreciated that the teacher asking me about injuries or maybe my name, where i practice, with whom or how far i go in the practice? well there were quite a few people in the room , maybe she didnt know that i m here the fist time? the room was warm but not hot and very quiet. it was nice to have the community around but not a welcoming place, good to go and do your practice, not anything special for me.

Which is very cool, especially if you have a busy urban schedule! Each class, you have a different teacher. So if you don't like the teaching style of someone, you are not stuck with him/her for the next 10 lessons. It last about an hour and a half. The first 30 mintures are usually some small yoga-related exercices such as breathing and relaxation. Then, you go on practicing. And, during the last 15 minutes, you have the relaxation part. You can bring your own Yoga mat, or they will offer one to you if you don't have one. In the room that I was, there also was a small shrine which included images of important leaders of most of the different religions of the world. Which I thought was very respectful considering that everyone has different beliefs. A very nice place to practice Yoga. It's about 10 minutes a walk from Metro Laurier, and well worth it!

The instructor demonstrated to the class what she wanted us to do, and would quietly explain finer points in English to me by the mat, which was loaned to me and all the props I needed. Occasionally she interjected English into the class, and was incredibly gentle. Très bene! Addendum; on their schedule, they list when they have bilingual/English classes. I went back to their open class (bilingual) and left with my body purring like a well loved cat

Note that for you active yogis out there, Wednesday mornings is when they have the Ashtanga class, so if you want to get your cardio on, that's when it goes down. Friday mornings is stretching, a perfect compliment for weightlifting. Also note that the classes are given in French. The location is very convenient, right across from Tim Horton's on la piniere, near Champlain mall. For newbies they offer a one week trial for 20$, which is very reasonable! My conclusion after trying a class? Yoga instructors must be the happiest people in the world :)
