We went to visit the CSU Spur complex at the National Western Center on a quiet, non-Stock Show…read moreafternoon. I, of course, had read about the construction of these facilities, but the reality blew me away. We mostly wandered around awestruck at the scope and quality of what CSU has created for their branch in Denver. There are three buildings, each with a different focus. Hydro deals with water, Terra with food, and Vida with animal health, including the Temple Grandin Equine Center and a partnership with Humane Colorado. These are research/education centers with a strong connection to the public via labs, workshops, and interactive exhibits. CSU experts in agriculture, water quality, and veterinary science provide K-12 programs, summer camps, and higher education as a hub for innovation and community engagement. Major components of Hydro include the Denver Water Quality Laboratory, the CSU offices, multiple conference rooms and classrooms, multiple exhibits about water, the Confluence Theater, the Hydro Teaching Lab, the Sensory Room, a nicely landscaped outdoor patio, and the Little Finch coffee shop/café. Terra offers a teaching kitchen; labs for sensory testing, dairy, produce, and meat; the community food/sensory garden; conference rooms; the Controlled Environment Horticulture Lab; multiple exhibits; classrooms; the Learning Lab; labs for microbiology, molecular biology, water, instruments, and soil/plants; and the hydroponic greenhouse. The key features of Vida are the Humane Colorado Veterinary Hospital, the Temple Grandin Equine Center, and the Equine Sports Medicine Rehabilitation and Conditioning Center. Other highlights are extensive art exhibits, the virtual reality anatomy classroom, the observation areas for the on-view surgical suite and spay/neuter clinic; and observation of the horse arena and the Sports Medicine rehabilitation facilities plus numerous exhibits throughout the building explaining all of these functions. Thank goodness for the coffee shop as we were overwhelmed just by the experience of walking through the buildings and needed a break to regroup. These facilities are amazing and many functions are available to the public for help, inquiry, and learning.

I spent part of my night volunteering at Metro Caring. I pulled items from the main warehouse and…read morestocked them on shelves in the main "store" area. Yes, this food pantry is more like an actual store. I really like that idea. People can shop and put into their cart/boxes what they'd like to take home and checkout, but do not have to pay. Speaking to one of the workers, it's less about qualifying to be able to shop here, but more about setting an appointment during business hours using limited information and you can come shop. It's a great way for people who need a little bit of help to get some relief without having to feel so exposed or desperate. There is a great variety of donations and staples provided here at Metro Caring. They do work to avoid less sugary, unhealthy snacks and I respect that! There are too many examples of how less expensive, unhealthy food is what many people end up eating. They have a produce area, dried goods, many starches, beans, teas/beverages, cooler items, snacks, and more. I'm very impressed with this place!

Once I opened the storage unit and saw how much stuff I didn't remember putting in it 3 years ago including a couple of large boxes of clothes. I do a lot of shopping at Goodwill but I prefer to donate my clothes to organizations like Clothes To Kids of Denver. I called them up and asked what kind of clothes they accepted. Note: they take all season clothes, shoes, hats, and accessories. That was great news because I had all of those things to donate including a few purses and a couple of bags. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They were deep into a major reorganization of all of the clothing donations which was massive! Denver: take your gently used clothing to Clothes To Kids it will go a long way to helping kids, teens, and adults get back on their feet.

He has been there 3 years and loves it! Crestmoor is run by a very loving and attentive mother/daughter team with the help of their dedicated director who's way with kids is phenominal! The teachers/group leaders we have had (as our son has graduated up to each classroom) have been nurturing, caring, fun, patient, and experienced. It shows when our son comes home with artwork, numbers/letters practices, projects and is often singing songs he learned, some even in Spanish. He was counting to 100 in his 2's and at 3 has been writing Mom and Dad and even part of his name! Crestmoor is not just a daycare it's a home away from home!
