At the end of 2018 I turned over a new leaf and decided it was time to go back to church and be apart of a community (after 4 years of going to church on and off but struggling with religion and church as an organization). But I felt God weighing on my heart that I needed to get consistently plugged in somewhere and truly seek out a church. After reading tons of online reviews and scouring many church websites, I landed on Vive Church and loved that they streamed online, so I could join from home and not feel pressured to be fake nice and fill out a welcome card in person. I joined online that first Sunday in January 2019 and recommitted my life to Jesus, online. The message was that powerful. I joined online again the next week, just to make sure I wasn't just being emotional, and sure enough I felt that tug on my heart strings, through the online service. I decided I would go in person the next Sunday, but was nervous to go because the closest campus was a satellite campus, meaning you watch a video version of it with other people. But then I figured that's not all that different than just joining online from home. So I went in person the next Sunday and KNEW immediately this was my home. Pastor Britni is the Oakland campus pastor and she was SO welcoming and kind, and immediately connected me with other members that had some similar things going on in life. After that I watched as every Sunday she worked hard to connect new comers with current members, and she would follow up with people via text throughout the weeks. She is a HUGE part of why I still 'attend' this church. But that the whole community earnestly wanted to get to know people and meet them where they're at. After two months of going I decided to lend my talents (film student background) and work on the production team. I got to meet other team members and see the hearts of genuine people serving and working on the staff, and I really appreciated the dedication to quality and efficiency. Having grown up in church, I've been to one too many church services where production quality was subpar and music was distracting, off-key, etc. but that poor quality and under-performing is ok because it's just church. But it was refreshing to be with a group of people that not only lend their talents but excel at what they do and want to give the best they can, give their all to God and the community. In July 2019 I moved to Southern California and have struggled since to find as sincere, authentic, and hard-working body of people in a church. Not to mention the pastors are on fire - they preach with passion and are so raw and truly themselves. So I still join every Sunday online. The pandemic hit in 2020 and their online presence has been amped up and I am SO thankful for it. That I am still connected to this church family from a far. If you're looking for a genuine church, that's no BS, and authentic and raw and truly cares about you and wants to get to know you, then this is a community for you. I used to think churches with a lot of 'fluff' and 'noise' were fake, but this church is modern and progressive and top-notch quality built by individuals that are passionate about excelling for the kingdom of God :) They use everyone's talents to create a church that is approachable no matter your background, color, creed. It's one of the most diverse churches I've ever seen - a true representation of what heaven will be like! This is a long post I know, but I am SO incredibly thankful for this church, and don't want any negative comments on this Yelp page to deter you. I've always been a skeptic of organized religion, but I promise if you come to this church with an open heart and open mind, you will be transformed and will ultimately appreciate their whole-hearted honesty and passion. It's infectious! Part of the mission statement is 'Awakening people to the reality of Jesus' and giving people 'Permission for passion' and this church is living this out entirely. And if you do check out this church don't be shy, reach out to a campus pastor or online pastor in the chat and they will get to know you and get you plugged in too, if you're seeking that.

I'm so glad I went here. Had the absolute best experience. It's a very diverse church and people were very welcoming, right from the moment I got to the entrance. I felt like I could find community here. Worship was awesome, the word was powerful and the presence of God was palpable. There's also great coffee :)

I'll admit it up front - this review is very biased. It's my home church, and it took a while to…read morefind one! I started here in 2003. It is an expositional Bible teaching, evangelical, fundamentalist church. If you are reading this far bear with it for a few more sentences, and following is an explanation if what this means. What you will find in our church are genuinely nice people who have a love for God and a Heart for others. You will hear the Word of God taught straight out of the Bible, and be drawn in by worship music like no other! Now what is all of that other stuff? Expositional Bible teaching means you read the Bible, study the context and the original language then "expose" how it applies in one's life. We don't teach how to make a million dollars using biblical principles. Evangelical means we take Jesus' commandment to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28) seriously. We evangelize meaning we promote and verbalize the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It does NOT mean we try to convert you to Christianity (as defined in Webster's dictionary). That's God's job. Fundamentalist is NOT a dirty word. It has become in some circles equivalent to being a terrorist. The Christian fundamentalist movement actually began in the early 1900's. A group of pastors formed a convention to confirm the fundamentals of the historic Christian faith. The church was being influenced by very liberal teachings that were not in line with what the Apostles taught (most of the New Testament). So regardless of what Rosie O'Donnell may say a Christian fundamentalist is not the same as a radical religious terrorist. We meet Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM and Thursday at 7:00 PM. The building is the Spanish 7th Day Adventist church on Sierra Vista. Check out our web site at www.ccmv.org. It has our beliefs and little briefs about our pastoral staff.

We have heartfelt worship, encouraging prayer, a wonderful head pastor and his dedicated team of pastors & elders who truly tend, feed and love the church body! I love CCMV. I've since moved to San Jose but continue to go back up to Mountain View because that's how much I truly love and feel loved and spiritually nurtured in this church body. Briefly, this is the first church I have ever actively attended. Now, don't misunderstand, I've been to churches: Catholic, baptist, pentecostal etc... and that was prior to surrendering my life to Jesus Christ. But on that fateful Sunday more than 2 years ago, when I walked into this church in my penguin pajamas & bedhead: angry at the world, looking to pick a fight, weary & lost and not trusting anyone, especially not Christians... Not one dirty look came my way, but instead hugs and welcoming smiles and faces ... and the prophetic Word of God coming through Pastor Rick Franks to pierce my heart and bring me to salvation. CCMV is all about the Gospel. Come here if you want to learn more about who Jesus is, how to have a personal relationship with Him, and get a solid bible-teaching jump start on your new faith. Jesus loves you!

There is a good amount of diversity among both the congregation and the church staff. For what I'd consider a mid-sized church (estimate upwards of 150 including children and youth), I enjoy seeing a broad range of ethnicities represented, which includes a fairly strong international presence. The service itself is very down to earth. Worship sets are led by rotating groups of people, with some preferring older songs and hymns and others leaning more contemporary. The sermons also alternate between three to four of the pastoral staff. One thing I've enjoyed most about the service at Palo Alto Vineyard is the way they always make it a point to pray for different global or current issues. I see it as a healthy recognition of the local culture (dominant Silicon Valley influence), but also the desire join in with the larger global church. I've since learned that Vineyard churches (it's a network/movement) focus on both demonstrating outward love for neighbor (evangelistic to newcomers, different outreach ministries) and being Holy Spirit led (lots of emphasis on prayer). There is often a space in worship where the pastor leads the congregation in sharing any words God might have for the entire congregation. There is almost always an invitation for people to receive prayer at the end as well. All in all, we have experienced Palo Alto Vineyard to be a place of very genuine and very welcoming community. There are nonbelievers, visitors from out-of-town, and members who have been at PAVC for decades. People want to follow Jesus and it seems to be a healthy community. Family "fourths" (once every fourth Sunday) are a chance to sit with families and kids at tables during service. There is enough anonymity on any given Sunday to be comforting (if that's your thing), but also lots of times to connect (they encourage a dedicated time to fill out the Connect Card, and as far as I can tell, no one has ever been hurt by the extra bagels/donuts and coffee). There are lots of different small groups and a dedicated Children's and Youth Ministry. The church meets at a local middle school, so make sure you find the right parking lot where you see lots of others pulling in, and you should be good to go.
