I've been at Vive Church for almost four years now and have been serving pretty much that whole time. This house has shaped me in more ways than I can explain. I love a house that unapologetically preaches the Bible and not only that, equips its members to actually live it out. When my now husband and I started dating last January, he started coming to church with me. I invited him into something that had already changed my life, and then I got to watch it change his. The leadership here is so intentional and so dedicated to people. They really see you. They call things out of you that you might even miss in yourself. Watching him get activated in his faith was so special because it was real. It was genuine growth. Because of that culture that is so beautiful here at Vive, we have both been able to step more confidently into our calling of leading the next generation. It feels like such an honor to be in a place that does not just talk about purpose but actually equips you to walk in it. If I am being honest, when I first started coming years ago, I was hesitant to fully get involved. I would show up and serve but still keep parts of myself guarded. Once I really leaned in and allowed the leadership and community to love on me, everything shifted. The last three years especially have been exponential growth in my faith. My relationship with God is deeper, more personal, and more intentional than it has ever been. And it is not just a church, it is a family. I met my closest friends here. My wedding was full of people from this house. We have been continuously blessed by the leadership and guidance we have received, not just spiritually but in our careers and personal lives. Every aspect of our lives has been touched by leaders who genuinely dedicate their time to pour into you and go the extra mile for you. The people are so kind and genuine, and everything is done with excellence, from coffee, to worship, to church planting, to discipleship. I went to this church around 2023 for one month and it was bad. Pastor speak but no heart felt message where is resonate. His staff keep saying 'so good' is a distracting. And yes, many of the kids that dance up front just dance and the attendees were there looking for attention. I even see girls making their way to a good looking dude and started chatting, it just seems like a non biblical church to me and took me over one month to detox from this place. I attended Vive Church for several weeks, hoping to find a Christ-centered community. What I found instead left me grieved. There is "Vive" everything- it felt more like a brand than a body of believers. I remember a visiting pastor saying during a sermon that he recites to himself, "Vive is here." Not Jesus is here- but Vive. That was deeply unsettling to me. Most of all, I was troubled by the spirit I encountered: more division than love, more loyalty to leaders than to Christ, and more focus on earthly power than on the Gospel. In my experience, loyalty to the pastors was often treated as if it were loyalty to Christ Himself- a dangerous confusion Paul warned against. I also heard a pastor dismiss what he called "the perverted and corrupted version of Jesus the world teaches- that He loves and accepts everyone." For me, that was heartbreaking. Did not Jesus say the greatest commandments are to love God and to love our neighbor? (Matthew 22:37-40). As Paul wrote, "If I have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal." That's how this place felt to me: loud, insistent, but often empty of the compassion Christ commands us to embody. Focused on production rather than connection. For that reason, I chose to leave. I pray this community returns to the way of Jesus- a way marked not by power or politics, but by sacrificial love. I also noticed political messaging on pastors' social media that concerned me. They call those who disagree with them or voice concerns, "demonic." I encourage anyone considering this church to look closely and prayerfully before committing. read more

When I first moved to the Bay Area in 2016, I was looking for a great faith-filled community I could call home. I walked into VIVE San Jose and immediately knew 'this is it'. We've since switched to the Mountain View campus due to moving house, but the same welcoming community, great preaching and worship is in each location. I've grown deeper in my walk with God and the pastoral team is amazing and relational. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking for a home church in the Bay Area. read more

This is hard because I really love the worship and the sermons, but the constant hecklers from the crowd after every sentence spoken ruins it for me. It's almost to the point where the crowd is talking over him. It is so distracting and all I want to do is focus on the word of God. This is a review reporting both good and some possible flaws. The church seems to be reluctant to hear feedback or critique or even some requests for "help." We see this in the website which lacks a phone number or email addy for the church. There is a tab for "connect," and "connect" takes you to a page which invites you to become a member. The structure of the church is hierarchical. Feedback and critique or questions go up and down a chain of command. I assume this is set this way to save the lead pastor time so he is not overwhelmed. I wish to provide some critique or least some experience and I know that they carefully do read and "respond" to yelp reviews. I cannot "email" "them," or call "them" up on the phone, but I can write a review which they will certainly read, since they are scrupulous about trying to maintain a positive, good reputation. Good points: the church has dozens and hundreds of people who love God and are happy in their walk with God. Some people are doing well in their walk with God at this church. Some people at church, both staff, volunteers and ordinary are cheerful and friendly. The church has some ministries of service and one or more people at church report having been healed of some affliction. The church has a strong social media presence used in part to promote and advertise itself, and the church is trying to spread or grow in other parts of the world Flaws or weak: Please know that I am fallible and flawed. The music is often lacking in harmony and disagreeable. It is not possible, at least for me, to find out easily what music is being played or sung and then to learn it or critique independently. A search of VIVE music brings up pages and links to a completely different church in a completely different area, not associated with VIVE of Mt. View or VIVE of Oakland. Moreover, not only is the music often lacking in harmony or beauty, but if you simply stand or walk outside of the church buildings, you hear what is not music or singing, but the banging of drums. Some people report hearing the bad music across the street or a block away. The pastors or music ministry people and I may have a different view on what constitutes good music. Some of *them* seem to think that dancing or jumping makes things good and *I* think they are missing melody, harmonies and they have a lot of drum banging. You can hear the banging outside the church building--but not the singing and not the melody, if any. The church has a mild fixation on getting you into the process of 1) making you a member and 2) making you accountable in some way. It shows up in their website as of August 2025. How to connect with the church? According to the website, it is not to call or email, but to take a class on becoming a new member. It is so strong that the 2nd or 3rd time I was at the Mountain View location, an usher or security guy came to me to ask if I was thinking of joining the church. Wow. I will remember that with my next potential girlfriend on our 2nd date. Hey, are you ready to get married get? And the church seems to believe in accountability and orders flowing from the top down and not back up. I say that because if you listen to some of the messages, in several cases, either Adam or his wife have stated things not found in the Bible, with the claim that some sentence or two is found in the Bible. There was but little doctrinal significance to the extra sentence that Keira Smallcombe added to what the Bible actually says, in its story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. But the average careful Christian is going to actually read the text in I Kings 18 and see that Keira added 1 or 2 facts, not in the text and said they were in the text. The Bible says to check things out and the Bible says the Bereans were more noble and the Bible says to let pastors who make such errors to know about their errors, if any. Now, in Oakland, there is the pastor named Bobby. Bobby is concerned that I at times visit during between service fellowship and mostly do not stay for service. He does not want me to come, if I do not intend or commit to stay for service. He does not care about why I might choose to not stay for service, about either the music, or about errors in preaching-- obvious--if you simply read the Bible itself and notice the extra parts provided by Keira, or weird made-up definitions of words provided by Adam such as for the word "rejoice." For I have heard them preaching in person and I have listened to Adam and Keira online. Before I give a lot more time to listening to them online, I wish to provide feedback about obvious factual errors. They are not big but they do reflect a careless attitude towards the word of God. Now, the leadership of VIVE in general or VIVE Oakland wants to make sure I am accountable to them, but they do not seem to wish any mutual accountability or feedback about problems or errors. At the end of 2018 I turned over a new leaf and decided it was time to go back to church and be apart of a community (after 4 years of going to church on and off but struggling with religion and church as an organization). But I felt God weighing on my heart that I needed to get consistently plugged in somewhere and truly seek out a church. After reading tons of online reviews and scouring many church websites, I landed on Vive Church and loved that they streamed online, so I could join from home and not feel pressured to be fake nice and fill out a welcome card in person. I joined online that first Sunday in January 2019 and recommitted my life to Jesus, online. The message was that powerful. I joined online again the next week, just to make sure I wasn't just being emotional, and sure enough I felt that tug on my heart strings, through the online service. I decided I would go in person the next Sunday, but was nervous to go because the closest campus was a satellite campus, meaning you watch a video version of it with other people. But then I figured that's not all that different than just joining online from home. So I went in person the next Sunday and KNEW immediately this was my home. Pastor Britni is the Oakland campus pastor and she was SO welcoming and kind, and immediately connected me with other members that had some similar things going on in life. After that I watched as every Sunday she worked hard to connect new comers with current members, and she would follow up with people via text throughout the weeks. She is a HUGE part of why I still 'attend' this church. But that the whole community earnestly wanted to get to know people and meet them where they're at. After two months of going I decided to lend my talents (film student background) and work on the production team. I got to meet other team members and see the hearts of genuine people serving and working on the staff, and I really appreciated the dedication to quality and efficiency. Having grown up in church, I've been to one too many church services where production quality was subpar and music was distracting, off-key, etc. but that poor quality and under-performing is ok because it's just church. But it was refreshing to be with a group of people that not only lend their talents but excel at what they do and want to give the best they can, give their all to God and the community. In July 2019 I moved to Southern California and have struggled since to find as sincere, authentic, and hard-working body of people in a church. Not to mention the pastors are on fire - they preach with passion and are so raw and truly themselves. So I still join every Sunday online. The pandemic hit in 2020 and their online presence has been amped up and I am SO thankful for it. That I am still connected to this church family from a far. If you're looking for a genuine church, that's no BS, and authentic and raw and truly cares about you and wants to get to know you, then this is a community for you. I used to think churches with a lot of 'fluff' and 'noise' were fake, but this church is modern and progressive and top-notch quality built by individuals that are passionate about excelling for the kingdom of God :) They use everyone's talents to create a church that is approachable no matter your background, color, creed. It's one of the most diverse churches I've ever seen - a true representation of what heaven will be like! This is a long post I know, but I am SO incredibly thankful for this church, and don't want any negative comments on this Yelp page to deter you. I've always been a skeptic of organized religion, but I promise if you come to this church with an open heart and open mind, you will be transformed and will ultimately appreciate their whole-hearted honesty and passion. I attended VIVE for a few weekends and felt like this church was a little too charismatic. People were shouting and breaking the flow of the message with their yeahs! and "So good!" Messages were not great but not bad. A lot of messages contained how much the pastor sacrificed and how we should use our gifts for the church. When you sacrifice, you don't mention it. Circus like productions that try to be relevant, cheesy clean humor, unremarkable worship with no level of depth or doctrine, the pastor babbled on about all the sacrifices his family made while preceding to ask for tithing. Best of part of all of it was approaching the Pastor after church. Approaching the Pastor I asked about what he thought about from an excerpt by AW Tozer from The Crucified Life: "Instead of preaching sermons that "stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance" (2 Pet. 3:1), we now must entertain the congregation with the latest forms of entertainment available. Today's evangelical church is filled with entertainment toys of all sorts: projectors, bands, lights, noise--everything to capture the attention of poor, immature, underdeveloped Christians. If it rattles, if it is frivolous, if it makes a person laugh, it is accepted in the Church today with open arms." I said that there's been a burden on my heart about the modern day church. Are we doing this right? Is the format of hangout, worship, announcements, sermon, altar call, worship the best way? Is it stifling to the movement of the holy spirit? He said that this was aimed at people who do church out of a heart of entertainment and began to shmooze over the production by talking about how he enables people to do their gifts and have an offering to the father through lights or guitar whatever. Sure. All well and fine but we still haven't addressed anything I said. Red herring. I said I would be ashamed to bring my raver friends here. This is when he began to get angry. The kind, smiley, crocodile teared pastor who I saw on stage became loud, interruptive, and aggressive. I asked him if he thought that the production of two pastor's in white 90's jumpsuits wearing upside down flat bills doing a mock American Idol performance was glorifying to God! This was embarassing and awful. Cringe worthy even. He said it was fun! So I asked him how this was different than the entertainment tozer was talking about. It brings people joy he says. Helps them let their guard down! We begin to get into semantics about "fun" vs "entertainment" before he begins to get even more visibly and audibly frustrated . Eventually he basically called me selfish because he has so many people he has to talk to. When bringing up how Jesus left the 99 for the 1, he grabs my shoulders, says he doesn't have time for this, and walks away. He has a bigger gentleman over to calm the situation. This guy didn't give a shit. Kept defending the Pastor .Sure . So we're done talking and I try to head back in to find a friend and he has the audacity to block the way and ask me if I needed something. If I was wrong in anything I said or did, I'm sorry. When you've been in church all your life just to be hurt by Pastor's who don't give a shit, you just want to be loved where you're at. I want to see the love of Jesus in the pastor. This guy was an asshole. I won't get an apology and if I do it won't mean much. read more

My husband and I moved to Mountain View about 1 1/2 years ago. We have been on a search for a church open Saturday evening or Sunday early mornings because I work on Sundays. Fortunately, there was a great blessing behind COVID where we were able to connect virtually with our home church. Just a couple of days ago, my husband and I were blessed as Foster Parents and we are on bonding leave for this week only. We decided to take our Foster Daughter to church. I found this amazing church on Yelp. And thank God for Yelp as our experience was beautifully blessed and amazing. We felt so welcomed. We met so many beautiful Brothers and Sisters in Christ; Pastor Jackie, Pastor Rhee, Pastor Kat, Pastor Huey, Pastor Gina and Pastor Luke. It was God sent for us to be at Vive Church this very day with my husband and Foster Daughter. We had a beautiful moment when our hearts tugged at us to lay our love together in God's house. And can I get an AMEN for Pastor Adam!! We do have our home church where we love our Pastor; however, we have been in search for another church as our home church is further from our home. Pastor Adam is an amazing, down to earth, hilarious, blessed, honest, genuine and humble Australian American Brother in Christ. We are so fortunate to listen and take in the Good News (Gospel) from him. The sermon connected our new family in ways that solidifies the foundation of our purpose in this young girls life. Definitely one of my top favorite Pastors I have listened to, mate. And the band...YES!! Feeling the Holy Spirit through the praise and worship. We loved being at Vive Church! I never called the church I previously went to my 'Home Church' because I always knew I would find a church that fits to call Home. VIVE CHURCH IS HOME. As soon as I stepped foot on campus everyone was so genuinely welcoming. My favorite thing to bring up when people ask me about this church is COMMUNITY. Found lifelong friends who I can honestly call family at Vive. Joined team and a Midweek and could not feel any happier as a young woman of God surrounded by good hearted people with the same desires. Pastor Adam and Pastor Keira are so intentional with everything and this all stems from them. The word is so present, God is so present, and the worship music as well as lighting and everything the team puts into this church is so perfect. So thankful for this church! read more

Vive Church has been my spiritual home since the first week I moved out to San Jose. They're incredibly warm, welcoming, kind, honest and energetic to everyone, new and seasoned alike. Pastors Adam and Keira Smallcombe are very generous, strong, Biblically adept and caring church leaders, and that flows through the rest of their staff. They write some amazing worship music themselves, and the whole community represents a sound lifestyle and posture of worshipping The Most High. The church's midweek gatherings are invaluable community-engines, showing their commitment to unifying people together in The Spirit. There are five Bay Area Vive campuses, and I've been most consistent at the San Jose campus. Volunteering at this church grown me tremendously, and the people of Vive have become my family over the 3+ years I've been here. I'd absolutely recommend visiting any of Vive's campuses, and definitely getting involved in midweeks. This Sunday was my first time visiting the Palo Alto Vive Church. The music was very contemporary Christian music. (The music is not diverse but still beautiful). I enjoyed the quaintness of the church as well as the members and the sincere greetings that I received from most of the volunteer workers. However there were a few things that troubled me. The Australian pastor's wife was preaching and while she was preaching she used profanity to describe a biblical figure (Daniel). I could not believe that while she was preaching she described something as being "Badass!!" There were people in the congregation that were shocked and you can hear a humm of shock. And there was a young man sitting in front of me who had not even given his life to the Lord that looked at his wife in shock, two times. (The reason why I know he had not given his life to the Lord is because they called for all those who did not give their life to the Lord to raise their hands and he raised his hand). And to top it off, she then repeated her description only the 2nd time, she used the letters "B.A" instead of the actual profanity word. Other parts of her preaching, she said that she can think of a whole lot of other words that she could say but she can't say them here! Wait, what!? Isn't God everywhere? Why would you want to say something outside of the church because you shouldn't say it in church, when God is everywhere? I mean, I personally feel and believe that we shouldn't say things, or use language that we would not say if God was standing in human form in front of us. God is every where (in the church & outside of the church) and therefore I don't think that we should be using this kind of language anywhere. Especially in the church though! Just my opinion. The preaching was pretty alarming to me and I was discouraged because I was hoping that I would possibly become a member. I'm just not sure what to expect at church nowadays. It's almost as if anything goes. It was very difficult for me to really focus on the rest of the sermon after that. All I could think of was that all of the satellite churches spanning across the United States were hearing her say "badass." (Honolulu, Hawaii, Illinois, California, Etc). After the service was over I was guided by a very sweet woman to go to the new 1st time visitors area so I went to the new visitors section, and the Campus pastors wife (the black pastor's wife) came out. I was really excited to be able to meet her because she was so charismatic when she was making announcements. But, she never approached me though she looked at me a few times. She was talking to others and when she saw me she did not speak to me but shifted her focus to an Ethiopian couple. She focused mainly on the Ethiopian couple when there were at least six other new visiting people in the new visitors section. I kind of felt that she was more focused on the black couple than the other people that were visiting. She did eventually shake all of the new visitors hands so maybe she knew the Ethiopian couple personally and that's why she was focusing on them more than the other new visitors. I would love to hear the pastor preach, ao I might visit again, but I just hope that I don't hear any more profanity while preaching. Sorry for the negative review. I only say these things so that the church will know and be aware of things that they should be cautious of. read more

This church is amazing for spiritual emphasis week at our school they preformed at our chapel. It was amazing! The life lessons were so nice and useful! It didn't take long for my wife and I to realize that this church was 100% real. This church is for everyone who is looking for a loving community and who is looking for a place that doesn't sugar coat the message. Before VIVE, I was in a place coming out of a time where I had slowly distanced myself from the church because of church splits and teachings that didn't truly preach on modern day spirituality. If you're ready to be challenged and renewed every week, this place is for you. The lead pastors and the worship and creative pastors at VIVE have committed to doing everything at top quality. The production is incredible, the volunteers are the first people there and the last people to leave, and some people might think it's over the top, but shouldn't we be doing everything to our best efforts? Doesn't God deserve the best? I grew up as a PK and in several extremely conservative church environments where you didn't really lift your hands and didn't really make any noise. Maybe an amen once in a while. This is not that church. Challenged to make some noise for God? Doesn't he deserve the praise? Isn't He worthy? If you can cheer for your favorite sports team, doesn't He deserve a praise that's louder? You're not wrong for worshiping or praising a certain way, I'm just being real for those who find this church to be too charismatic. My wife and I are creatives and it's a challenge to find a church that not only appreciates design, but desires to use creative talents and skills to serve in the church. I'm on the photography team and have helped with some film and design work. Finally, a church that I can glorify God through my creativity. This might be a long way to end an already lengthy review, but it's messages like this that are incredibly real and applicable to your every day life: "God's plan for your life is not to lead you to peaceful situations, God's will for your life is to bring peace in every situation. That's when peace has power, not when when everything's peaceful, but when everything is chaotic, when everything is crazy, for some reason, I seem to have a peace that surpasses all understanding because my God works peace in the midst of my chaos and he takes what's good and he takes what's not good and he brings it together". It took us 3 years to find VIVE, but how this place has changed my life and I am so grateful to be a part of this amazing family. read more

My mom introduced me to this church and it was pretty cool. We got anointed with baby oil. I never had that experience before . It was pretty cool and everyone seemed so genuine and happy here. I kept seeing smiling faces. Great place to go for niner fans cuz theres so many niner fans here. They definite support the niners here. I loved how all the singers had white teeth too. I've never seen brighter teeth. Everyone here was great. An the worship was great singing and speaking all excellent. The pastor is a real cool guy. I am looking forward to the bbq coming up. This church is amazing. My husband and I joined C3 in March 2015 (Palo Alto campus) and felt at home instantly. They emphasize "realness" there, and it's truly reflected from the moment you are welcomed at the doors, throughout worship, and most definitely, the preaching. To illustrate how relevant the message is to all walks of life, I must add that it my husband was very new to church (in what he viewed as the "curious, seeking phase"). The worship immediately captivated us with it's upbeat radiance and just immersed us with hope and anticipation for a great word to come. My husband's first words were "Wow, this seems like a club," haha. But that's only one aspect of how this church emulates God's joyful nature. The preaching is always powerful and the first thing you will notice is PASSION and SINCERITY. Man, can the pastors speak. You'll be on the edge of your seat and desiring more as the sermon closes. Another bonus is that there are multiple services to accommodate various morning preferences--from early risers to Sunday sleep-ins. Then we moved to the San Jose campus when it opened. For a satellite campus, it is no less powerful. The volunteers put in hard work to ensure that the services run just as smoothly and the people are just as on fire for God. It really exudes unity and a kingdom dedicated to developing an intimate relationship with Jesus. Highly recommended to anyone, come and check it for yourself :) !! read more

The church isn't the building, its the people - and C3 gets it. Been there a year and the people there are diverse, gracious and solid. I was looking for a place to pitch in and "be the change I want to see in the world." A place where the vision is to make a difference out there. To do more than just survive and maintain the numbers and status quo. A place not just to get the weekly attitude check, but to be inspired and to inspire. Very welcoming, friendly staff, high energy worship that was a bit intense for my wife & me. Note: They offer noise cancelling headphones for those that want them. We enjoyed the sermon, but it was a little difficult to focus because of the live "interaction" from the crowd. I normally do not enjoy satellite churches who project their message from a main campus. However, Pastor Adam and Keira's passion and love for Jesus is so strong that watching them preach from a projection does not effect the power of the message they have about Christ. Challenging, honest, and deep. A Sunday at a C3 campus is transformational. The genuine community, powerful worship and deep message. This is definitely not your typical church. When you walk in there's a beautiful light display, upbeat modern Christian dance music, and an overflow of sweet and enthusiastic people who will put themselves out there despite the fast paced buy schedule of the average Silicon Valley individual. To be honest - it can be overwhelming. But why not? Our American culture can bombard us with advertisements of products and the idea of beauty and entertainment, so why can't a church do the same thing? C3SV is LED by people who walk the talk and who are not timid about their beliefs. The strength and characters of the leaders pours out into the church members and their seemingly infinite drive to excel in everything they do never ceases to astound me. From musically training teammates on the Worship Team, to innovative videography, the members' drive is to deeply connect people to God and to each other. This church is not for everybody. The pastors refuse to dilute the messages from the bible, and that can rub people the wrong way. But, to me, the vision of the church is sound: "So that people would be awakened to a new reality in Jesus" and "Not religious? Neither are we." Everyone is welcome despite where you are in your walk of life and grace is the message. I wasn't a committed believer in Christ and had been turned off from the church for years, but kept being drawn back. It took some time and work, but I have met some of my closest and most encouraging friends from C3. I definitely recommend checking it out - even if it's just for funsies. 1st time here. It is an extremely charismatic church. A bit distracting. Seem a little overboard with the charisma from the audience who seem to force their "yeah" "mm hmm" "oh yeah" "that's right" after every single sentence. It goes something like this: Pastor: "Jesus went to the temple" Audience: "yeah!" Pastor: "Jesus has a plan for you" Audience: "oh yeah!" Pastor: "it's not just any plan, it's great plan" Audience: "that's right!" No real substance to the messages, it's more like a protest rally. read more

This is an awesome church. Preaching is great and very life-giving. Each time the pastors peach, I get a lot of revelation from the words they bring. The worship is really amazing! Not only is it lively and upbeat but the words are meaningful and have very good depth to them. But I would say one of the best things about this church is how welcomed I feel each Sunday. Each of the people that greeted me did it with a smile and really made me feel comfortable. I would highly recommend this church to anyone seeking a church home in the San Jose area. I just love Vive San Jose Campus! The preaching is phenomenal from Pastor Adam and Pastor Keira. Love how relatable and real they make the scripture, and help apply it to our lives. The pastors are wonderful at being approachable and getting to know each person at the church. The worship is dynamic and energetic! The worship is relevant in using Hillsong, Elevation, Jesus Culture and C3 worship. The community is genuine and intentional. Love how quickly you are greeted by their team, and made to feel at home from the beginning. They also have lots of small groups to get involved with midweek. I love the vision of the church to see the Silicon Valley reached for Christ. So happy I have found my home at Vive San Jose, and would highly recommend to everyone! read more

I was looking for a new church home and had visited quite a few in the Bay Area, some large, some small- but the moment I stepped into C3SV's worship, I knew God wanted me here. I looked around and saw such incredible diversity; young and old and every color of the rainbow! People were unashamed in their enthusiasm and I was struck by the kindness and genuine joy everyone greeted me with. Truly, it's infectious!
