Located on Lee Lane in the heart of Horwich, which is quickly becoming a foodie haven, La Salsa is…read morean independent tapas and wine bar which has quickly gained the love of diners both local and visiting with its good quality food and service at a good price. The main draw is the fact that La Salsa offers a menu of over 40 tapas dishes for just £12.95-£15.95 depending on when you go. For this one price you can eat as much as you like, for as long as you like. The menu has sections covering breads, olives, salads, meat, fish, chicken, charcuterie, and vegetarian, as well as a large drinks menu covering beers, wines, liqueurs and spirits, and soft drinks, as well as the occasional special cocktail and sangria jugs. There's a dessert menu too, but most people don't get that far by the time they need rolling out the door! The way things tend to work are that after being seated and ordering drinks, your party will each tell the server two or three dishes (they're numbered too, so don't worry about brushing off those Spanish pronunciation skills you learned in school!), and the dishes are all brought together in small dishes, allowing you to graze, nibble, and share to your own delight. After finishing a "round", the waiting staff clear your dishes and take more orders. In essence you can try everything on the menu through the evening, as many times as you'd like! I particularly like their "Tapas De Pescado" (seafood), which are done very well. To be honest, all of the dishes are cooked perfectly and presented well, and I enjoyed all of the ones I've tried immensely. I've never NOT enjoyed a visit to La Salsa! The venue itself is split into two storefronts, which originally had one unit as the main dining room and kitchen, and the other unit as a bar and lounge area, but with La Salsa's increasing popularity, the lounge area had to be fitted out as another dining room! The décor is traditional and rustic, with stripped wooden floors, chunky wooden accents and artwork, and partitions made from old wooden doors (!), and tall candles on both the tables and against the walls, as Spanish and Catalan music plays giving an authentic feel to the Spanish atmosphere, only spoiled slightly by the ceiling, which is office style Styrofoam ceiling tiles. But frankly who's looking up? There's more food coming! The staff are young, friendly and hard-working. Due to how busy the venue can get, you can expect to order with and be served by several different staff members. Rumours are frequent that staff aren't allowed to keep their tips, and tips are kept by the venue itself. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but with how hard the staff work, I'd be disappointed if I found out if it was. La Salsa doesn't have private parking, so you will have to use street parking, or one of the local free car parks within walking distance, but luckily both options are free. I love La Salsa, and continue to go again and again, as do my friends, parents, in-laws, and anyone else I've introduced to it! If you try it yourself, I guarantee you will too! It's also nice to see that despite lots of local competition, including from restaurant chains nearby at Middlebrook Retail Park, La Salsa continues to thrive and gain in popularity. That shows they're definitely doing something right!

This is only the second time I have eaten here, they are very accommodating. We had our engagement party there and they were both helpful and professional. The restaurant occupies the bottom floor with a cocktail bar on the top floor, which has a fantastic lighting and music system. An equally amazing cocktail list to match, my personal personal favourite STRAWBERRY DAIQUIRI, which takes me straight back to my holidays! We ate there Tuesday night with two good friends from Chorley, we had a drink in the bar then made our way to the table. There is a normal menu with starters and mains along with a tapas menu. I had the meatballs off the tapas as my starter, I was not let down by the juicy, succulent homemade meatballs. Main course normally I have a steak when we eat out, I thought I'd break the habit so I ordered chicken breast stuffed with garlic and basil, wrapped in pancetta services with new potato's (which were slightly roasted and amazing) along with a creamy tomato and chorizo sauce. Which was to die for!!!!!! After all that I was too full to have a pudding! Defiantly worth a visit!

Tapaz is a relatively new player on the Bolton food scene, but is truly storming the review sites…read more People speak incredibly highly of it, and it's currently in the top #5 in Bolton on TripAdvisor. I've been meaning to try it for a fair while, and finally got chance recently. The building itself is one of Bolton's grand older buildings with high ceilings and arched windows, but when you step inside it's somewhat surprising. I think part of me expected a tapas bar to be more Spanish "themed"like other tapas venues I've visited, but the decor is a combination of bright simple modernity, and... budoir? Elegant rustic iron sconces and lamp shades give that touch of Spain, but the crushed purple velvet benches and snow leopard print chairs seem a bit of an odd choice! However, it's clean, functional, and welcoming. We are seated and given the menus by a friendly member of staff. We are happy to see that there is an "all you can eat" tapas option, which is always nice, so we opt for that! The menu is left with us so that we can choose from up to any 3 dishes at a time, but reorder as many times as we'd like. Instead of listing each of the tapas we ordered, I'll simply share the photos here on Yelp. The tapas came in good time, and every one of them was hot, fresh, and delicious. Special props go to some specific things we commented on, including the fantastic citrus taste that came with the Bacalao Frito (breaded white fish with tartare), the sheer tenderness of the Costillas de Cerdo (BBQ ribs), and the incredibly rich flavours of the Chorizo al Vino (Spanish spicy sausage in red onions and red wine). It also allowed us to try "Chicken Bastilla" for a first time, which is shredded chicken in a crispy pastry, but then topped with cinnamon and sugar! It's apparently a Moroccan staple, but this was our first time trying it, and although it was a very strange idea to get used to, it worked surprisingly well! Like a cross between the end of your dinner and the start of your dessert! The service is friendly and efficient without being intrusive, and the value is superb. Even if we didn't go for the 'all you can eat' option, the prices were great, with lunch specials also available. As we paid I managed to embarrass myself by messing up with the card payment machine and accidentally giving a 10p tip, making me look like the stingiest tipper on the face of the planet, but despite this, the staff member who took our payment didn't let any sort of reaction show on his face. Truly professional! I noticed this on the bill as I was walking out the door, and so turned and left a bit of a better tip in change at the bar. The one thing I will say is that I will be giving a much bigger and more deserved tip next time I visit, as I will most definitely be returning, and hopefully will have enough room to try a dessert! We can very much see how Tapaz has earned its praise! Muy bien! :)

I hadn't been before, but honestly I don't know if I'd go back to Tapaz. It wasn't bad, so let me start by saying that! Inside, it's trendy and intimate and a good spot for a date night. They have a decent wine menu, though you can only order house red/white by the glass so if you're not planning on drinking lots you're limited for choice (minus points). Food wise, some of the dishes were great - the Chorizo De Vino was superb - potentially the best Chorizo dish I've had at a Tapas restaurant as I feel a lot of places over power the sauce or dressing with Chorizo - Tapaz didn't (plus points). The rest of the food left a bit to the imagination, not bad by any stretch, just average and average can't receive higher than 3 stars in my opinion. Calamari was decent, and the chicken dish (I've forgotten the name) was fairly good however the Patatas - both Bravas and Pesto - were way below the normal standard I'd expect. Tapaz is a decent restaurant, and with the competition surrounding it, probably the best of the bunch, but I think that goes more to showing the lack of good food in Bolton as appose to Tapaz's quality. Not bad, but not great.

Walking in I could see a mature customer base..chilling on chaise lounges and overall being very civilised. We approached the podium where a gatekeeper to the restaurant stood. She pleasantly took our names and said to come back when we fancied to eat. To whet our appetite we chose the berry special gin for £6.50 which was a long refreshing drink while we caught up. When ready we were seated in the restaurant and provided a menu consisting of pub classics. I chose a black pudding..bacon..poached egg with hollandaise sauce concoction while my friend had the cheese potato skins. Both arrived well presented and full of flavour. For mains I struggled to find anything thrilling. Eventually I settled for the fish pie and my veggie companion a sweet potato one. Mine was very decadent..full of cheese ans cream but it had good pieces of fish. My friend seemed to enjoy hers. Overall the venue is stunning with a family friendly vibe. The food just lacked that innovative edge for myself but I would come back for a drink.

Those from Bolton, or the surrounding area, will know this place as Tavern on Hunger Hill or 'Tavern on t'hill' (read that with a Peter Kay accent if you can). It was very busy when we arrived, a good sign! We waited in the bar for around 15 minutes whilst we waited to get a table. The menu is large, and has plenty of starters, lite bites and main meals to choose from. They have a specials menu too, which I find great for a pub! Although the chef must have gone crazy with the mustard this week, because there wasn't anything on the specials I would have liked. Still, others would! I ordered a homemade fish pie and it was lovely!! The service was fast and friendly and the bill was more than reasonable. If you're around on Hunger Hill and hungry - give it a try. They're been around since before I was born so I can imagine they won't be going anywhere soon!

Harvey's Café Bar in Bolton town centre is based in the Old Court Buildings, and so as you enter is…read morehas a feeling of grandeur to it with its high ceilings, especially accented by the warm colour pallet used in the décor. Muted golds, reds and warm brown woods give the place a comfortable and sumptuous feeling for something as simple as a restaurant-pub. The huge lanterns that hang over the bar are a striking visual element as soon as you walk in the door. Harvey's seems to enjoy being slightly out of the way. It doesn't have loud music, TV screens or arcade fruit machines making noise, it's quiet, and relaxing. However this also means that there's often not very many customers there when you arrive, and my recurring note is that there only usually seems to be one or two staff working at any one time. One out front running around like a headless chicken to keep on top of everything, and one occasionally bringing food out. There's the kitchen team too, but I don't know how many there is. Due to this skeleton staff, it's understandable that it's not full table service, but ordering at the bar and taking your seat where food will be brought to your table. The nice thing is that as busy as the staff get, they are friendly and professional, and always wearing a smile upon greeting you. The menu is rather unusual, as you would expect from the setting to get standard British pub/restaurant fayre, and although classics are on offer, the menu is rather varied, including breakfast, sandwiches, starters, main courses, enchiladas, 'classics', burgers, sharing plates, sharing platters, side orders, and a smattering of other cuisines, such as meze, nachos, tapas, and fajitas. The prices are fair, if not slightly higher than the average for Bolton Town Centre; the cheeseburger and chips meal I ordered was £9.45, and a Pepsi with it was £1.70. The drinks on offer also include interesting quirky items such as cocktails served in teapots, which is an interesting unique idea! Here's where the small staff can be an issue, as there were no more than a dozen customers in the venue when I was there (a weekday), but my meal took 45 minutes to arrive to my table, but admittedly with an apology for the wait, which was nice. It was also amusing to hear the single staff member take an order from a mother and child from the Children's Menu, then hear him go into the back and yell, "chicken nuggets, chips and beans from the kids menu!" to the kitchen staff, to the amusement of all of the other customers who giggled. I'm happy to say that the food which arrived was hot, fresh, and very tasty. The burger was not served on a multi-seeded Kaiser bun as the menu stated, but served on a brioche bun, which in my opinion is actually a better move, as Kaiser rolls often fall apart when used for burger buns. The burger was juicy and substantial, and the chips were hot and crispy. In fact I couldn't actually finish the burger! Staff also made the time to ask twice during my meal if everything was to my satisfaction, which it was. Harvey's is a great place to pop in for lunch, but it feels as though it's not meeting its potential. It's a great venue and a pleasant environment, and it feels as though it should be a lot busier and fuller than it is for food, as it has a lot to offer. I have eaten at Harvey's before, and would happily do so again.
