Located in quaint little Jamestown, it's set alongside the river, with cows grazing alongside the bank. To call it idyllic doesn't quite capture -- it's ridiculously charming. I emailed to secure a booking a few weeks before as we had 6 adults and a child for a Friday evening -- they replied quickly and we were all set. We showed at our appointed time and were shown to a lovely nearly private table in the back room. All very smooth. My husband proclaimed "Best Meal in Ireland." (and he's eaten many after traveling/living there on and off for several years). And I must concur. A standout -- the Kids Menu! None of this garbage food to be found (chicken nuggets, etc). My son ate beef noodles fit for a king for about 6 euro. Unreal, it was so good my brother and husband were both sneaking bites of it. If you have kids, they shall not be disappointed here and you will not feel guilty giving them yet another plate of chips and grease! The Adult food was also exceptional! The duck was glorious! The steak a vision! There was not a miss in the bunch, and the complimentary starter and fresh made in-house bread basket was divine. A Malaysian Chef doing things up right over here in small town Ireland. A treat to be sure. If you are anywhere near -- make this a destination for your next dinner. One funny thing (which is totally fine) -- it may be the only eating/drinking establishment that does NOT serve Guinness. Totally ok for me, and it forced my dad to try some local brew, but worth nothing if you have any grumpy Guinness folks in the group! This ENTIRE amazing meal was 250 euros. This included wine, drinks, beers, multiple courses and a very happy kid eating beef noodles. A true value to be sure, everyone remarked that they thought it should cost far more -- so this really is a testament to great food at a great price.

We stayed in 3 different castles in a week…read more The castles were majestic and incredible, but we wanted a bit more of the feel of hard working Irish people. At the Castle they told us there were some nice pubs in carrick-on-Shannon. We took a cab into town and wandered into the Anchorage. This place made our trip. The bar tender and owner could not have been more warm and friendly. My wife and sister-in-law chatted with her for hours. My brother-in-law and I mingled with some of the gentlemen in the bar, and found everyone to be friendly and warm. The owner went out of her way to make us all feel welcome. My wife and my sister-in-law had forgotten to pack hair conditioner. After the owners shift ended, without ant prompting except for bar discussions, went out and bought them a big bottle of conditioner. If you want to make your Ireland experience truly special.....have a pint of Guiness here.

Set quietly listening to the music minding my own affairs. There was group across the way getting larger and larger to eventually the stools got close together with mine. Did not speak to them for quite a while. Then as the group became larger again, they were almost right next to me. We chatted for a little bit and I picked up to get another beer and asked if anybody wanted one. A few said yes, and I took the orders and went to the bar. I had no intention of hanging out with them, but just wanted to be friendly.as a visiting American. When I walked up to the service window of the bar the older bar tender asked if the order Is the for the group in back.i responded yes. He said they are leaving and you're not getting anything.. He asked if I was coming back later in the evening and I answered yes truthfully. He then started getting animated and loud which I  had trouble hearing because of the music and the noise. He was getting and was quite rude and very disrespectful. I said nothing while he was going on. He then dismissed me turned his back to me and waited on someone else ,leaving me standing, still trying to figure out what was going on. And unable to figure out what his problem was. I do not know what his issue was with the people at the next table or me for that matter. However, I was not involved in their behavior or conversation. He had every right to refuse service to them And when he informed me of that, I responded with OK. And respected his decision. What he did not have the right to do was address me in a disrespectful manner like some kind of riffraff. After his rude treatment I simply picked up my coat and left the premises not to return. Still don't know what his issue is. The buyer beware. I hope this was an isolated incident. There are plenty of pubs in Carrick who want your business and will treat you right.

We had a great time drinking, it was cozy, and the bartender was great. It is nothing fancy or elegant but the Guinness is good and the bathrooms are clean! If you were looking for a 5-star new and modern place to go, this is not the place for you. Looking to soak up Irish tradition and culture, then this is where you need to be!
