This place is a hidden gem. The outside is deceiving. It is called Vitamin City but it also has grocery goods. The fruits and veggies are delivered fresh once a week, however everything else is awesome. If you are looking for milk, flour, protein shakes, protein bars, breakfast cereals, canned goods, cheese, etc.. this is the place to find it without having to read labels. It seems everything here are either organic, or GMO free or the best next thing for your health that you can find on the market. It also has drinks, hair products, paper products etc. I found the lady and the gentleman who run the place very informative. When my doctor recommends that I take a supplement that I have not tried before, instead of standing for hours to do a deep dive the owners/managers seem to be very knowledgeable. I consider them an asset to society. I have been coming here for years. The place is run down, so do not expect a posh bistro style lighting with some fancy decor. It is bare minimum metal shelves and isles of products. It is most likely 20+ years old place that has never been renovated. A family owned "Whole Foods" type of place with better service and no fancy shelving. The shopping center where the place is located has plenty of parking. read more

I walked in for help finding supplements to help heal cancer and this old lady treated me like I was the worst human on the planet. She had a huge problem with me using the C word and told me you can't come in here and ask a question like that and use the C word (cancer). I walked in happy and hopeful and walked out feeling really horrible. It's no way to treat someone who is dealing with an illness like this. This place has so many things you see online but not sold elsewhere in person so that's awesome. They prices are MSRP too with no mark up and the owners are quite friendly. Parking is also a non issue too. One caveat I have to mention is that you need to check the expiration date on everything because they will discount it or even sell it at regular price but it's already expired. I used to purchase cases of GFCF items and organic juices and produce at Vitamin City. Woo and Tina are very helpful and friendly. Their staff on the other hand were horrible unfriendly and downright bullies. I got to the point, I was afraid to ask if my order has come in. I was greeted with "what do you want?" Or worse, staff ignores the customers. This happens of course when the boss Tina or Woo wasn't around. I never went back and never regretted it my decision. read more

I've been going there lately as a one stop shopping experience. They have a great selection of vitamins and supplements. I love their produce section, and find just about everything I need. I prefer to support small businesses. This is a mom and pop family enterprise that has been around for a long time. I have been searching high and low for a vegan product called Simply Eggless for a couple of months now so I reached out to the company to see where I can find their product near me and they directed me to their store location attached to their Instagram, vitamin City was the FIRST and closest location there was to me so I called to ask if they had it in stock before I made that drive ( I live a little distance from vitamin City ) and unfortunately at that time they did NOT have it in stock I was told to call back on Friday to see if it came in with their load and for about a month or so I stayed consistent with doing so until one day I was like " can you guys take down my number and call ME when you do have it back in stock??" They did just THAT and TODAY I got the call!!! I am NUMBER ONE super excited to try a soy free vegan egg & NUMBER TWO super appreciative that Vitamin City upheld what they said they'd do by reaching out to me when they had Simply Eggless BACK in stock.... So while on the phone I asked if they would PLEASE put a few of them to the side for me and I'd be on my way shortly and they did JUST THAT , asked me how many I told them and when I got my Simply Eggless the bottles were neatly in a box alongside a piece of paper with my name on it awwwwwwww Thank you vitamin City for staying on top of things consistently and being extremely patient.... Woo is amazingly!!! He's not only kind but extremely knowledgeable. As an herbalist I love hearing his perspectives on some holistic remedies. I only shop here for all my supplements, since I was a child. Now I'm my 30's it's still my go to shop. I choose to buy drinks from here instead of amazon fresh. Woo will walk you around the store to find the products so you save time and get the correct product. Even during the pandemic Woo was helping thousands of us locals stay healthy. Been shopping there for years. Support your local health food store. They have certain items which I don't find anywhere else, such as Pau d' Arco tea as well as other hard to find varieties. Also I have not seen anywhere else the 20 lb bags of California Organic Rice. They also have all types of baking flours of alternative gluten free brands as well as organic wheat berries and other organic grains for grinding fresh at home for bread making. read more

I lived in the area for around 4 years. When hubby (then-bf) would visit me, we would go to this shopping center pretty often. And, because we wanted to be a little bit healthier, we started to browse this Vitamin City. Employees are always very kind and helpful, and they definitely know their products. Never had any issues with any of them. In terms of selections, they definitely have a wide variety of the vitamins and other generic health store items. Wellness Formula is a good price here, and we tend to get my mom-in-law's shampoo here, since it's not too readily available at other shops, or it's just way too expensive at other shops. Only thing to look out for is the expiration dates. Sometimes, the product you are buying may expire sooner than you would normally think, simply because there's either no preservatives, or a lot less preservatives than other similar products. The young guy w/glasses and the semi gothic girl at the cash register who weren't trained to greet customers OR ask if they can help in anyway, definitely made my husband and my 10 year old son feel so uncomfortable. The girl was completely leaned over the counter staring at us but yet, not offering to help. I recently purchased a box of Alden fudge bars, along with chocolate Rice Dream bars. The employee, Zan, was very non-customer-friendly. I asked if they had rice dream bars, he said that he'd check. When he returned, it was not the variety that I wanted - I wanted the peanut coated type. He appeared irritated & said, "Well, you didn't tell me that!". I told him that I didn't know that there was another kind. He told me that they didn't have Jules Organic fudge bars. So, I purchased the Alden brand. I opened one to eat while waiting for him to return with the Rice Dream bars, and it was soft & had ice on it; it looked as if it was old or had not been frozen adequately. I showed it to Zan & told him that I'd like to exchange it for another box. He told no - no exchanges & no refunds. I said that if a product is not good, one should be able to get either. This place was not your plain, stuffy health food store, but more like a bazaar. I went looking for low-carb protein supplements. I had no fewer than two of the staff ask me if I needed assistance, and when I found the section I needed one of the staff was very, very knowledgeable about the several products available and was able to point out how they ranked on effectiveness but also price. Having read a few of the other comments here that discussed the store being a little cluttered, I say to those commenters, "go somewhere and stick it in your ear!" It really wasn't that bad. This place has a PHENOMENAL assortment of products. Unlike the bigger stores, I think this place is able to try out a lot of emerging new products without committing to buying them by the truckload, and it's just BUSINESS that some of those items are going to sell fast, and others won't. The owner can't just toss the items in the trash willy-nilly. So if everything doesn't move out of the boxes fast enough for ya, go someplace where they do (and the prices will be higher!) In other words, I don't like bad chemicals! Vitamin City is a what a nature food store/body products store should be. They have a great variety of organic products for the body, food, and vitamins! I am pretty sure it is independently owned, like your typical mom and pop store, not a franchise by any means. It is very small, but what they pack a concentrated amount of goodness into it! I mainly shop for the organic body products that regular stores NEVER carry, like make-up, lotions, natural glycerin soaps, and aluminum free deodorant. They carry the products I am looking for, that don't have the chemicals I am trying to avoid, so for that reason alone, I am sticking to them like glue!! The prices are very reasonable, and the employees are very knowledgeable. Also, they are right next to my other fave store, Albertsons. It's rare to find such a well-stocked, independent supplement and health food store like Vitamin City. The employees are all helpful and if they don't know, they'll find you someone who does. The level of integrity at this store is astounding as they'll gladly tell you that your expensive list of supplements found on some website aren't needed and will direct you to better options. Why 4 stars? Their produce is consistently wilted. I think their storage and handling could use an overhaul. Also, because they're a small store, the prices aren't as competitive as a larger chain or online. But you don't come here for the discounts, you come here for the service. read more

My doctor sent me here to get raw milk and "Wheat Belly" type foods. The people who work there, especially Alan (Allan? Allen?) were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. If you want better-than-Whole-Foods service at a much more friendly price, shop here. I'm not saying it's cheap - it's not, but it's more reasonable than the Wholey Sprouty Farmy places. It's not fancy, yep, boxes everywhere, but they loaded up one of those boxes with my groceries and Alan carried them to my car, refusing my offer of a tip. When he checked me out, he neglected to take the coupon off my sodas, but another worker pointed it out. He immediately apologized and was ready to take it off my order, but I stopped him. This is almost like a miniature Whole Foods Market excluding all the cooked and prepared food Whole Foods offers. The great thing about Vitamin City is it's extremely cheap prices on most of its organic products and all of their organic produce. Vitamin City has just about everything Whole Foods does, and if they don't have a product you want, they'll go ahead and order it for you--so awesome! Plus, they have much more new low-key and higher quality products than most other health food stores. They're seriously right on the ball regarding the organic and natural health industry. Let's see... new shipments of organic products come in on Mondays and Thursdays, while fresh organic produce come in on Wednesdays and Saturdays. So if you're on a budget and want to save tons of money on high quality organic products and produce then you have to shop at Vitamin City. Get in there before others do--it's a must. There's only really one con and it's the following: They close way too soon for a health food store/market-- at 7PM on the weekdays, 6PM on Saturdays, and 5PM on Sundays. I find myself most of the time wanting to go to stores and markets later at night between 7PM and roughly 10PM. And with Vitamin City closing at and before 7PM at times, it can be quite inconvenient. Lost business somedays. Besides that, the employees are extremely friendly and most are very knowledgeable in natural health and are very determined to answer any questions you may have, direct you to any product you desire, and give you the best educated information on products they can. A truly unique secret of a store for the few that actually know about it. Ya tired of Whole Paycheck (also known as Whole Foods)? Ya find Mother's Market too far away? Ya find yourself afraid to look for new places that might carry vegan/vegetarian and other so-called specialty diet items at reasonable prices? Look no further than this place, hur. They carry all of the essentials, at decent prices (mostly). Of course most vegan/veggie products are expensive, but that is why I go here to find last minute items or items that are unique only to these types of stores (e.g. flavored seitan for instance, or vegan choco chips for baking). If you need it, they have it. Also, the employees are always incredibly thoughtful and knowledgeable about their products and product lines. On more than one occasion I've had the lot of employees running around helping locate particular vegan items (cold-pressed vegan coconut oil comes to mind). While I would prefer getting my veggies elsewhere, this place offers a grand organic selection. The usually have the dirty dozen in stock, so if you aim for those items as organic, then have at it. Stop in and help them out and keep this place in business. It's local, it's small business, and it's good business. Also, the body care section is have-all! Sweet. read more

I MUST be living under a rock all this time. I didn't discover this hidden gem until two weeks ago! Vitamin City has been around for 20 years and I have been living near this store for just as long but never knew about it! OK....another funny thing is that I used to work next door (Albertons') and had no clue about Vitamin City. BUT in my defense, I was working at Albertsons during my college days (2004), during the time of the huge Southern California Supermarket Strike of 2003-2004. At the time I was working as a "Scab" (cashiers who are temporarily replacing the workers on strike), so I didn't have a lot of strength to venture away from the crazy picket line. PLUS, I was a poor college student who could care less about organic products. I am jubilant that I discovered this wonderful mom and pop shop. Vitamin City is similar to Whole Foods and Sprouts. Their products are cheaper than Whole Foods, yet it is comparable or cheaper than Sprouts. They also offer a lot more organic products than Sprouts. They also offer very rare organic products that I haven't seen anywhere else (ie: organic soba, udon, tempeh, rosewater, etc). Here are the pros: 1. They have a wide variety of organic nuts and beans (even soy beans). 2. They offer just as much organic spices as Sprouts and it is a little bit cheaper too 3. They have a lot of raw snacks like Whole Foods 4. They offer a huge variety of organic/homeopathic medicine and personal hygiene similar to Whole Foods 5. They even have organic bathroom toiletry products 5. Their organic produce selection is huge! 6. Their employees are very knowledgeable and friendly Tip: 1. It is best to buy their produce on either Wednesdays and Saturdays, around 2pm. You should call them ahead of time to see when their last shipment of organic produce has come in 2. For non-produce, be sure to check the expiration date. There are some things that have expired or have been on the shelf for a long time. 3. They do have a second location in San Dimas, which is owned by the owner's brother. I have to say that their organic produce isn't super fresh, if you compare to Sprouts. When you buy the produce that is leafy (chard), you will have to eat it soon. I have talked to the Produce Guy and ask him about this and he said that their produce doesn't last as long as Sprouts and other big super markets is because their refrigeration isn't the best and they do not have an automatic spray system like other big supermarkets. However, they have been working to improve and will continue to do so. Despite the slight problems with the expiration date and produce not being super fresh, I still give Vitamin City 5 solid stars. I think, we as consumers, should help out a mom and pop store and just be smart on what we buy. read more

I want to support the small health food store. They are a dying breed and WF does not need my money. However, this place needs an urgent makeover. The area behind the cash register is a disaster, just shelves of dusty junk and piles of boxes. I will say the selection is great here, but I don't have a lot of confidence in the freshness of things when the store looks like it does. I only shop at Vitamin City for tea and vitamins because no other store carries such variety. Yesterday I came into the store and suddenly my mind went blank. I thought "Oh, what was the name of that vitamin I came in to get? Ugh, I should have written it down!" At that very moment one of the employees (Josh... I think) came up to me to see if I needed help finding anything. I told him "This is a bit embarrassing, but I can't remember the name of the vitamin I came in to get. It's an herbal supplement that begins with an R that helps athletes with their oxygen levels". Immediately he pulled out Ribose from the shelf, the exact vitamin I needed. Not only did he pull it out, but he discussed dosage and which ones sold the best. At the checkout counter I told one of the women that (Josh?) was very helpful and she replied with some snippy comment, tearing the guy down...totally uncalled for, so I do have to agree with the other reviewers regarding at least one of the female employees. Perhaps she should take more of the supplements Vitamin City sells...maybe some sort of mood enhancer. All in all a bit on the pricy side, but great variety as long as you don't mind the boxes being stacked everywhere and not being able to easily get through the aisle. read more

Including: organic produce natural healthy food vitamins dry bulk beans natural bath/body mineral makeup Their prices are really good and they have things in their store that you would normally only find online. I also love how laid back it is, I don't care that it looks like a mess in there, it's a small family owned place and everyone is really friendly and ready to help. This place could be the one of the best health food stores around long beach. They have an awesome selection of produce and supplements galore.. All for prices that don't make my wallet lose weight. The guys who work in the back of the store are really helpful and if you ask them for a product they will either get it for you or order it..There is one older dude who works on the vitamin aisle who is really sketchy and I think he might drink too much coffee or somethin. He still did help me find my coloidal silver so that was cool. I'm told all the produce is organic and that is awesome! The only real drawback about this place is the people who work on the registers.. There was a guy who was ringing up people and had a line of four people and there was two hefty women just talking while we were stuck waiting. Then as soon as the other register opened up I got the worst attitude I have ever gotten from a cashier. I'm sorry, the whole store rocks, but the two women up front ruined my visit to Vitamin City. Great prices? Check! Awesome selection? Check! My advice? Steer clear of the steers up front. read more
