Grouchy's Public House Review…read more I dropped my son off at college in Greenville, Illinois, and after seeing so many great things about Grouchy's Public House, I decided to give it a try for dinner Tuesday night. Looking over the menu, there were so many things that sounded great. I originally planned on just getting a burger, but decided to start with the burnt ends as an appetizer. After absolutely devouring them because they were THAT good, I went with Grouchy's meatballs. Both choices were excellent--I honestly couldn't give them a higher rating! Since it was Tuesday, I normally wouldn't treat myself to a beverage, but it was a special occasion, so I ordered a Hefeweizen. Very good! My bartender also gave me a sample of a Belgian Tripel and a German Schwarzbier, and both were excellent as well. If you're visiting Greenville, I'm officially declaring Grouchy's Public House a MUST STOP! Great food, great drinks, and a great experience. I can't wait to come back for Panthers Homecoming and try some more of the menu!

I was expecting the same old Greenville fare in the same old Greenville type of place. But I was so…read morepleasantly surprised and impressed! The interior is adorable and well designed considering its small size. We ate on the heated patio, which actually was fine - not at all cold like I expected. (The metal chairs however...) The food was excellent, the steak was perfectly cooked, the veggies weren't too over or undercooked. (Wish there was more of them) The owner is obviously doing a ton himself because he was going around talking with people, getting waters, moving chairs, kinda anything that needed doing it looked like. I know folks in Greenville often have a weird hangup about bars, and I don't drink myself, but this isn't a dark and seedy joint. I very much enjoyed myself here. This is a pretty and classy place perfect for date night or Girls Night. It's just missing out on five stars because of the lack of a good web presence. There isn't a posted menu anywhere that I could find, the regular updates that the owner does on Facebook are great, but that information doesn't have captions and isn't written down somewhere, which is very inconvenient. I don't want to have to listen to his spiel only to get to the one thing I'm looking for. I would strongly recommend improving the actual website (not just Facebook) so that folks younger than 50 (who DO exist in Greenville!) might be more encouraged to access the information.

We ordered a few different sandwiches and were pleased with all of them. The portions were generous, and served with a side of your choice. The stand out was the lobster bisque. Rich and creamy and delicious! I'd drive back just for a bowl of soup. Pro tip: we highly recommend the wine slush. The peach was a fan favorite. Wine, ice, and fruit blended together is a winner!!

We arrived around 1pm, apparently their peak but we were quickly seated. Though busy, noise levels were moderate and ambiance was typical of a family restaurant. We both had the country fried steak and biscuits, Karla with scrambled eggs and American fries, basically seasoned fries cut into cubes. She didn't care for the seasoning but she's admitted picky with a very low tolerance for spicy food. I had mine with traditional hash browns and eggs over easy. I've had better country fried steak but it was decent and the meal was otherwise great. Everything was served on one plate, just the way I like it, allowing me to mix things up with my hash browns and biscuits. The biscuits are served on the side of the plate, not topped with gravy in case you'd rather have butter and/or jelly on your biscuits, and they were hot and fluffy with good flavor. It was a very filling meal. The wait staff were great, friendly and responsive. We'll be sure to return to try other items from their impressive menu.
