When it comes to choosing eyewear, I am willing to pay more money for an out of insurance network provider--just as I am am with a modern dentist who has state of the art facilities. If you value fashion and prescription lenses, as I do, then look no further than I Designs....very often one has to choose between their optometrist (prescription lenses but no sense of style or fashion) OR their optician (style but sacrificing one's prescription accuracy by using their "in house" lab)....you get both here at I Designs. I had put off purchasing a new pair of everyday glasses for a couple of years but decided now was the time to finally do so. I was drawn to I Designs since they are an authorized dealer for Lindberg frames. They special ordered a pair they do not normally stock in a couple of different sizes to see which one fit my face best. We also matched the frames with lenses from Hoya, which is arguably the best lense manufacturer in the world though you pay a premium for their lenses as well. Within 10 days I had my new glasses and am extremely happy.....contrast that with the "service" I received at another, less expensive, and in network provider (the optician kept on calling me "dear" during the eye exam and when I did not proceed with a purchase of new frames afterwards on the spot I got a "whatever" out of her). Bottom line, when it comes to my teeth and eyes I will pay more for high quality and that is exactly what you will get at this boutique shop. They are not the least expensive shop out there, just the best.

I am very disheartened that I am even leaving this review considering I've been a client with Santa…read moreLucía Óptica since 2017 and have recommended this place to family and friends but after my experience today i had no other choice but to leave this review so here it goes: I called today to place an order for colored contacts and the older lady that answered the phone was extremely rude right from the get go. I explained to her what was said to me this past Saturday yet she continued to cut me off without allowing me to explain myself. Keep in mind that I no longer live in Miami or Miami dade and I still decided to make my app with them because I've been a customer for so long and everyone there is actually very nice and attentive to their clients needs except the old bitter lady that answered the phone today in the morning. NOT TO MENTION I DO NOT LIVE IN MIAMI OR MIAMI DADE. I LIVE ALMOST 2 hours away and yet I still drove all the way from my new area to them to get my exam done with them since I've always gone there since 2017. After that phone call we hung up and a few minutes later I called back to get a copy of my prescription for both glasses and contacts for my personal records and files since I have an archive at my house with all of my personal records. The lady once again started to be rude and she explained that the prescription might change since I had just gotten the exam done on Saturday which I 100% understood in which I even responded "I understand what you're explaining to me but I would still like a copy of my prescription, whether it changes or not, for MY personal files." She got so bothered for whatever reason. I even told her that if I lived in Miami I would go myself but if she can pls help me out since I live almost 2 hours away. Anywho, long story short, she kept Cutting me off and was not allowing me to explain myself. After I asked for her name all she said was "bueno te dejo bye" and hung up on me without giving me the opportunity to let me finish speaking or providing me her name. I was even about to cry of how rudely and poorly I was treated by this older lady even after I told her I've been a patient with them since 2017. I literally called back 15, FIFTEEN TIMES, and she did not pick up the phone and kept ignoring the call. I am upset because I drove down there on Saturday, paid for my exam and now I don't even want to go back anymore while that lady is still there. I'm only leaving 2 stars because everyone else really was nothing but amazing to me in my years of being there. Truly upset and at a loss for words. I'm not sure if the calls are recorded or not but I don't have any reason to lie, exaggerate the situation or make this up. I know they have many more clients and losing me as a client might not even be of importance or affect them but I'm still in shock of how rude this older lady was and so I just wanted to share my personal experience.

This review is based on my experience at the eyeglass place in June 2018…read more I called to make an appointment, and told the receptionist I'd email over my insurance. The day of my appointment, I emailed the insurance at 9am. At 3pm when I arrived, the receptionist seemed super confused. She hadn't checked the email, and didn't have my insurance. Ok fair enough. She starts to do it when I'm onsite. Then the older lady begins to tell her what to do (why didn't she check the email, go get the doctor etc) and after about 5 minutes of them going back and forth in front of me, the receptionist takes me up to an old and outdated exam room on the 2nd floor. The exam was as expected, but they have NO sanitary conditions in place for the equipment used during the exam. There was makeup and oil from the lady before me, all over the machine. I had to ask for paper towel to ensure my face didn't touch it. Gross. So after the exam I find out the receptionist apparently could not figure out my insurance. Ok, fair enough. I call, and while I'm on the phone attempting to figure out what she couldn't, the older lady tells me to "pay and go" and I can get a refund later..... So I go home, find the insurance card and information they needed and somehow couldn't locate, and send it over. I sent it to them based on info their receptionist told me--"send it over and we will reach out to refund you"-- welp, apparently they in fact did not take my insurance, but made sure I paid in full before I left, so I was stuck footing the bill. While the assistant was nice and offered me a pack of contacts as consolation-- which I truly appreciate-- it was overall a frustrating and odd experience, and I never even purchased contacts or glasses from them.

If you need a prescription filled from an ophthalmologist or optometrist,…read moreI highly recommend Lisa Rakusa, a Board Certified Optician at The EyeGlass Place at 430 S. Dixie Highway in Coral Gables. The phone number is 305.669.3890. She is professional, polite, personable, and caring. She carries a very broad range of reasonably priced, fashionable looking frames, but won't attempt to sell you one, if your current frame is damaged (as mine was today) but fixable (as mine was today. Thank you again Lisa.) But if she does fill your prescription, you'll receive fast, but accurate service. Lisa is a rare professional because she listens more than she talks. That's why when you leave her office, you'll leave satisfied and well cared for.

As a certified pediatric optometrist, she's the only one with the patience, skill and bedside manner to help when I need to have my eyes dilated...yes even into my 40's :) She recently expanded her practice to this other location in downtown Miami Lakes and works mostly from there. I was told by the front office staff that there's usually another doctor at her original location. Before I became more physically active, she was the one who said I should have my cholesterol checked based on what she saw on my eye exam. Both of her offices have imaging that can take an in-depth picture of the inside of the eye to evaluate the different working parts. The good thing about this device, I was told, is it gives one an alternate to the infamous dilation drops. Ah yes, the drops. Since I had a substantial change in my lens prescription, have a family history and had been a couple of years since I had the dilation she recommended I get it done this year (thankfully all is good). Yes, the drops feel like that scene in "Clockwork Orange" But Dr. Castellanos has a wonderful chairside manner and was able to keep me calm through that procedure. Like her original office, she has a digital lens system that lets her check multiple combinations for glasses pretty quickly. There's also a great selection of lenses, including some very nice rimless like the ones I chose. The candy part in the office name? You get a complementary dessert after the procedure (the raspberry chocolate truffle is my choice.)
