Beautiful, large store full of books, decks, incense, readers, gemstones, etc.

Have been a long time customer of Vision Quest since their old location on Scottsdale Rd. Stopped by last month when in town and noticed some very positive changes. Finally, new books, new merchandise, new decks. I was pleasantly surprised. For a long while the books seemed older and outdated. I found out that they have a new manager and she is doing great. Can't wait to stop by next time I'm in town!

I came here to find some stones for my photography and I was very impressed. I don't have anything to compare this to, but everyone in the store looked happy and seemed to be repeat customers. It was PACKED! They had a psychic fair so there were readers all over the store offering readings for $1/minute and were completely booked. I got a pyrite and fire & ice balls as well as a desert rose. So beautiful!

I have never had the pleasure of visiting this metaphysical bookstore in person; but I have definitely enjoyed my psychic readings here! I have been through some major stressful events these past few months in Chicago and called different readers up for their intuitive incite and to have a sounding board and empathetic ear. I started out taking readings with Nicole who I personally feel is the most gifted and naturally intuitive reader here. However unfortunately the last few times I requested her guidance the staff at the front reception desk lied to me and said she was sick and needed to go home early. On the 3rd day of trying to book her someone here was more honest and said Nicole doesn't want to read for me anymore because she doesn't think she can be impartial. I was so disappointed because I loved & valued her readings but it's her choice to refuse a customer so I was instead placed with Shelly who was happy to accommodate me. I've had readings with everyone here so I will run through the full list of available readers-- Shelly, Cassie, Robbie and Lars are wonderful So there you go...if you need a genuinely good psychic reading I recommend these wonderful people. I'm not sure why Nicole doesn't want to work with me but I honor her decision. Sorry I don't have photos of this bookstore but I've only booked psychic readings online

This place is amazing. Stop in you guys!

This place is beyond amazing. It's such a great place to come for most anything spiritual. I come here I'd say 3 or more times a month. I've seen many Spiritual Souls here and I have had some great experience and some not. but I know they all mean well here. I at times feel that it is a little uncomfortable being out in the open with everyone else being able to hear your readings. plus I don't like that at times I'm picking up on everyone else's energy being so open like that and I'm unsure if my readings are always truly honest. not due to the spiritual worker but due to the amount of energy in the room. I will always come back here. I would up it to 5 starts if things were a little more private. they have everything you will need here.

I was in search of a replacement bracelet of a certain kind, found at most metaphysical stores. In my experience there's Phoenix Rising Now/7th Ave, Fantasia Crystals/7th St, and Vision Quest/Indian School. I was geographically closest to VQ so chose there. Their variety of the spiritual, astrological and metaphysical always impresses. Crystals/stones, incense, jewelry, reference books, and gorgeous tapestries flood the space. Unfortunately, they didn't have the kind of bracelet I was looking for but still love browsing & picked up some cone incense & the perfect bday card for a friend. The other biggest feature this location has is their psychics, mediums, tarot readers, etc - nine to be exact. These professionals' stations are set up all over the store: little tables with two chairs. As I wandered around the store, I could hear one psychic doing a reading for her client PLUS all the details. IMO, these are sacred/private exchanges of information, enlightenment & healing. Not having privacy for these sessions is a disconnect, Yes for shopping here but "No" for getting any type of personal reading.

Super cute statue for fun!

Long time customer (from back in the day of the Scottsdale address). This is my go-to place for books, readings, crystals, etc.

Looking for a psychic but it's hard to determine who is legit and who is not. Was it expensive? Also recommend this location?

When I used to go, it wasn't expensive. I usually paid $20 for 30 mins? I think... But, this was years ago. Some of the psychics are fairly good, others not very accurate. I'm also trying to find a legit, affordable psychic, but it's easier said… Read more

Barbara, the owner, is the ultimate hostess and interviewer. She has nurtured so many authors as well as following their careers. Books are usually not priced, just sold for whatever is listed on the back jacket. However, they do have a couple of seasonal sales. I would totally recommend this bookstore to anyone visiting downtown Scottsdale!

Being from the Midwest, we ended up in a lighthearted, fun conversation about Fargo, which made the visit feel even more welcoming at first. Unfortunately, that experience shifted pretty quickly. During our conversation, the owner came up and told us she could hear us from the back of the store and that we needed to keep it down because a workshop was going on. Fair enough, but it was the delivery that was surprising. She explicitly said, "Because I own the bookstore, I can be rude." That comment really changed the tone. It felt like casual conversation (even a little laughter) wasn't welcome (unless participating in the workshop, by all means join workshop after Happy Hour and be rambunctious while customers are shopping.) The atmosphere suddenly shifted to less inviting and I wished I didn't spend my money. It's disappointing, because the space itself and interactions with staff like Patrick are genuinely great. I just wish the overall experience matched the charm of the bookstore.

When we arrived, I realized I remembered this spot from when I was a kid, I just hadn't been back since I was younger. This spot is absolutely STUFFED with books, comic books, VHS tapes and more. You could spend quite a long time wandering around looking at all of the books they have to offer. It can be slightly overwhelming especially if you are looking for something specific as there wasn't really any clear guidance on where to find certain sections. We still had a lot of fun though wandering around and seeing what we could find. If you are looking for the prices, they are written in pencil on the inside of the books. You can find a mixture of mostly used books along with some new books. They have a cute shop cat that you can sometimes spot wandering around, or asleep at the front. The woman who was working the register the day we visited was friendly! They also had a cart out-front with a number of books that were free to grab. There is plenty of parking out-front.

Once I was got to the store, I had to explore. I think that if one were to regularly visit Books, he/she would find some rare editions and other gems. Also, they had what looked like reproductions of banned book announcements posted around the store: all were of classic novels that we can't imagine not having access to as students. (See photos: Charlotte's Web, Huck Finn, Fahrenheit 451...) They were quite entertaining, in a disturbing way. They had the effect of making me feel so grateful that past efforts of censorship in the US had failed. In 2024, this is still a real threat. Tiny stores like this one are real treasures. Let's keep them in business.

A really great selection of all kinds of books, music, video games, and more! Everything here is community-based, with the exception of selections here and there that are brand-new. So a nice way to support buying secondhand items from Phoenix folks, being more sustainable and supporting a smaller business, and overall just a good spot to come explore! I've found lots of cool vintage magazines, vintage video games, some vinyls, and a number of books here on 19th. I definitely recommend this location!

I walk in to Bookman's and often find displays that are Arizona focused in a way that makes you feel and know this place is home town friendly. No big box impersonal feels here! I frequent this store and stop in just because I'm passing by. As an avid reader, I read about 50 books a year, Bookman's is a great place to buy paper books at a cheaper price. My favorite part about local shops like Bookman's is how they don't shy away from displaying banned books all year long! I have to read at least one banned books a month! There's gotta be something in the banned books they don't want us to know and I'm determined to read as many as possible. Interestingly enough, this store is full of "entertainment treasures" too. Music, musical instruments and even gaming equipment can be purchased here. The only thing missing is a social lounge with a coffee bar. We'd probably go even more often if there were a coffee bar inside. Return Factor: 100%
