I just can't believe how an experience, like seeing a practitioner in a pain clinic and they do not treat you like you are a drug addict, can change how you walk through the world. Granted, I can't stand tall because of my back issues. But I am standing as tall as possible because I feel so supported by this clinic. I was in another clinic here in Flagstaff and the physician and staff are amazing to me, however his PA's treat you so badly and if you do not agree or push back at that other practice, they start to treat you differently and all the sudden you are a problem. Here at Virtuous Pain, I am meeting with Colin H. and he is a great listener and makes sure you get everything you need to say out. He does not say things like - I get it I am limited on time; he says go ahead talk to me. Do not worry I am listening and then begins a plan and then is willing to hear you if that plan does not work. Then he also gets you in last minute, if possible, just to talk about med changes. SUPERB care and attention - he is just one of my favorite human beings. Now staff, Kathy and Kim are amazing. They spend the time working on your issues to ensure everything is seamless for you. If you are wanting to be really cared for, I mean really cared for, this is the place! They also are looking at other ways to treat then meds, as they recognize the importance of fixing issues if possible. I just focused this post on med issues because my prior office where I spent 3 years was traumatizing to my psyche. Here I feel cared for and proud I am seeking proper controlled help. i had two pain doctors just leave flagstaff and their patients hanging since the beginning of 2023. i was worried i'd be treated as a useless, or hopeless patient who has a rare autoimmune condition, that few understand. it is extremely painful, and little is known about how to stop it from robbing me of my ability to ambulate. i was pleasantly surprised to find colin hickenlooper and his staff as kind, and colin took his time to listen to my concerns and fears. i have felt disrespected by other pain medicine doctors i never felt that way with colin and i hope that he is practicing for a long time. i felt genuinely heard by him and he was the first pain medicine doctor who i felt genuinely cared about what i was feeling and he actually took he time to talk to me. i would highly recommend him. read more

I don't understand the negative review above, that sounds more like Aurora Surgical. I would definitely stay away from that place. *Very* shady... Anyhoo, wonderful experience here! Colin is fantastic; he's a very understanding, and eager to help breath of fresh air. I'm SO glad I transferred! I finally feel like someone is really listening to me now. Office staff is great, provider is great, and I'm excited to start working on a new med regimen, plus looking at other treatments that fit ME, not just a cookie cutter approach that's easier for the provider while I languish for months on end if what is prescribed doesn't help. My first visit went well enough, I was allowed ample time, except I came away realizing I didn't understand the next step toward a spinal cord stimulator and had only an appointment for a medicine change. After calling Virtuous from home, I was given the number to speak directly to the manufacturer of the device and I've begun making arrangements for a trial. Been going to the Flagstaff office for about 6 months , we got off to a rocky start because I take issue with one of the rules. But as far as pain management it's working out good, I will remain a patient here for as long as possible. The young lady at the front desk is really helpful and is always cheerful.
