The TV had gone quite bad, with an LED backlight failing pretty spectacularly, blowing out the rest of the LEDs on the strip and taking the inverter board with it. Finlux said the whole thing was toast and that the screen itself would have to be replaced, which would be more expensive than a whole new TV. They also wouldn't sell the backlight modules individually, so Zen hand-soldered replacement LEDs instead and replaced the inverter board, all for about 1/3 of what a new TV would have cost. The only minor negative is that it took about 5 weeks in total, since he had to do several rounds of diagnosis and repair, but given the scale of the problem, that didn't seem unreasonable. Nice, low-key guy as well.
