At 5pm it feels like the park is completely overrun with dog walkers. This is a National Park Service Park. So it's kept up pretty well but doesn't have anything fancy. For me it's a great place for a nature walk or rolling around on the grassy hills.

This park is a little off of the beaten path so it is not as packed as other comparable ones. You still are able to run/bike along the water along the waterside and it is probably preferred because there is less traffic. It has a huge outdoor tennis complex with two sets of Har-Tru clay tennis courts containing about 5 courts per set. There are 4 indoor courts available as well, both of which are open to the public on a first come first served basis, but must reserved and costs a fee. One set is better maintained than the other. Either way, the courts get packed. There was not an available court while I was there. The park also touts a golf course, which I hear is half decent. It has 2 9-hole courses (Red and White) and 1 18-hole (Blue). There is also a heated olympic sized public pool at its aquatic center, that is next to the golf course. The aquatic center is currently closed until further notice due to renovations and COVID. This is a decent park that has some heavy duty activities that you cannot find at most parks, including swimming, tennis and golf. If any of those appeal to you then this is your spot.

There's always plenty of parking and I typically will go by the wharf side to park near the sidewalk instead of one of the lots closer to the Jefferson memorial. During the spring time you can see the cherry blossoms blooming here. When you get past the golf course the trail doesn't allow for cars so that you can freely walk or bike on the road. Highly recommend checking Hains Point/East Potomac Park out if you need a day to frolic for free.99 lol

What I love most is how completely it changes depending on the hour. Early in the morning, there might be a workout group getting started--or, occasionally, someone asleep on a bench who perhaps did not quite make it home the night before. A few hours later, delivery drivers are taking a well-earned break. In the afternoons, there are families and kids, especially after school and throughout the summer. There's a regular afternoon cigar smoker. I've walked through yoga classes, watched pickup basketball games, and seen the big field transformed for Little League, soccer, and football. By evening, people are sometimes sitting outside having what looks like a little dinner party. It just ebbs and flows with the neighborhood. There's a dog park, although my dog is far more interested in the apparently exceptional sniffing opportunities throughout the rest of the park. And honestly, simply walking through is one of my favorite parts of living nearby because there's always some tiny slice of neighborhood life happening. Walter Pierce Park isn't particularly grand or elaborate, and I think that's exactly why it works so well. It just quietly becomes whatever the neighborhood needs it to be at that particular hour. To me, that's exactly what a neighborhood park should be.

The area is large but it feels smaller because of all the dogs and people there. If you don't have a dog you can still enjoy the athletic facilities. There's a few basketball and tennis courts, which always seem to be in use. It's not the nicest park, but it will do for some outdoor activity. Most dog owners are courteous but many aren't. Try going at not as busy times.

John Marshall Park is a spacious public park in Judiciary Square just off Pennsylvania Avenue next…read moreto the Canadian Embassy and the courthouse. It's named after the longest-serving chief justice, John Marshall, and there's a statue at the top of the park in honor of him. Nearby is another statue of two men playing chess, John Marshall's favorite game. There are plenty of benches making it a quiet place to enjoy lunch or a rest from site seeing.

The park was named in honor of John Marshall, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1801-1835, who at one time resided at the park's location. The design concept of the park utilizes a twelve foot grade change between C Street and Pennsylvania Avenue to create three distinct areas. The upper and lower bosques are paved plazas, with the center portion kept open to maintain the important L'Enfant vista to the Old City Hall. In the upper bosque, the benches and tables are arranged around two small fountains with sculptural features commemorating the early city spring which was located at the northern end of the park and from which in 1808 water for public use was first piped through the streets of Washington. A statue of John Marshall was added to this area of the park. The park also features two life size bronze chess players by sculptor Lloyd Lillie and sculptures by David Phillips (Somerville, MA) of bronze lily pads complete with frogs, turtles, fish and dragon flies. John Marshall Park was dedicated on May 10, 1983.

Dedicated in April of 1881 the 10' foot bronze statue is in honor of David Glasgow Farragut (1801-1870), the first Admiral of the U.S. Navy, famous for his role in the Civil War. The material is from his flagship propeller the USS Hartford . Vinnie Ream, the artist was the first woman to receive a commission for a statue from the U.S. government. The statue is 10 feet in height and scenic from many streets. The Tatte bakery has a perfect view of the square with its freshly planted spring flowers and is a perfect location for people watching. So, grab a pastry and latte and enjoy this historical sight.

It's directly served by both Farragut North and Farragut West Metro stations, so yes, the part sits over the Metro system. On a weekday, we stopped here before hopping across the street to catch the Red Line at the end of a long day of walking, museums and sites, and it was a pleasant break other than the pigeons, which were relentless even though we had no food. On a hot day, walking in and out of the shadows of the trees was a welcomed treat as the hot breeze flowed by. The way the trail is set up is quite nice, wide, and enjoyable. I'm not sure where this trail actually starts and ends, but I feel like that segment that I walked would equate to an overall enjoyable trek to explore. I mean it doesn't hurt that it is near the water, and goes through some area where you can see a lot of things. It can come off as an open air museum as well with all the historic marks around it and memorials along the way. It's a good place to take your mind off things and let yourself disassociate.
