I like these small cool parks in DC. This is yet another one. Farragut Square Park is located in a bustling area. It feels like a sense of calm. There's also lots of interesting restaurants and stores. Even though it's pretty small, there's a lot of interesting history about the creation. It has a big statue in the middle like many other parks around here. Like many of DC's older parks, it's named after a war hero. David Farragut was an admiral. Of his many accomplishments he played an important part in the Civil War. His biggest accomplishment was being the first admiral in the Navy. Thanks to reading up on him I found out it was him who came up with "Damn the Torpedos." It may be a small park but there's a lot to do here. It has a couple of Metro stations, so getting here is convenient. When the weather is warm there's also lots of food trucks.

Farragut Square park is a beautiful park stationed between two Metro stations-Farragut north and Farragut west. In the center of the park is a statue to Admiral Farragut and nearby a description about him. Benches align throughout the park. I wasn't aware that they had food trucks in this area since each time my husband and I went through it or passed it there was hardly anyone there. There was a panhandler trying to bother me but I just shrugged him off. I'm always intrigued by how the Metro stops get their names being from out of town so I enjoy checking out the area whenever the opportunity provides me with that option. It appears to be in the heart of a business district from what I could gather. Located not far from the National Geographic Museum it makes a nice place to stop and unwind.

Nice park. 1) I found this park while looking for Peri Peri. 2) Great place to sit and relax. 3) Will come by if around the area.

Who knew they showed movies here!? What a lovely surprise. Of course you take the chance of being attached by a foot long rat, but that's what adventure nights are all about right? This park is near a metro, clubs, bars, and shopping. Oh, and did I mention all the people watching you can do? You're welcome :-)

food trucks galore! people dine here with their lunches during the good weather season. packed from 11-2 monday-friday.

If you want to see the world pass you by, then grab your food from one of the 20 food trucks on Fridays surrounding this park, take a seat and watch the show. It really is neat watching everything going on at one. It has the historical significance too. The name sake of the Farragut Square is after David Farragut who was a prominent Union Navy Admiral. The statue in the center is that of the admiral dedicated in 1881. All of this info is provided via a park sign in the park. I happened to enjoy dining on my cheese steak sandwich along with a few other patrons on the bottom of the statue that is actually fenced in. It was pretty amusing seeing all the girls including myself trying to get over the fence gracefully with out dresses on. I was lucky i didn't get my snagged like I saw a couple of other people suffer from. The square is fairly large. It is situated in the middle of the bustling businesses and commercial district. Primal for watching the time pass by when having fun. The park does empty out pretty quickly during the evening hours. However, during the summer months they have tried to add some evening activities such as the free "Farragut Sounds in the Square" jazz concert series, held every Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. from July 3th to August 19th. I have yet to experience this, but definitely plan to once that time rolls around. I really like this park! Though it has nothing much else beyond a few benches and a statue, it is smack dab in the middle of everything to get a full panoramic of the cityscape.

It's a pleasant spot. Lots of food trucks at lunch. Pan handlers can be annoying on weekends.

This square near our hotel is pretty ugly at all hours, and creepy at night, but at least saves some time if you need to cross streets.

However, it's apparent that such a charming park with so much potential will be a victim of its location unless the people who frequent it take better care of it and each other. This park has everything you can ask for in a park: shade, benches, picnic tables, open play area, updated play structures for different age groups, a splash pad, swings, and a full court basketball court. There is even easy access from two neighboring streets, Girard and Fairmont. Fortunately for my three-year old daughter, she is oblivious to the surroundings where you have lowlifes hanging out. She enjoyed her time here and was bummed we had to leave after 45 minutes. During the day, as long as you're vigilant, there shouldn't be any issues in terms of enjoying what the park has to offer. During our visit, there were just a few instances that irked me. One, a couple boys were throwing pebbles/rocks towards another group of unassuming children. And in another, several parents or adults are just sitting around near the play structures smoking their cigarettes away. At night, I'd probably advise all people, regardless of age to avoid this place like the plague.

I had ten minutes to kill before work, so I sat down with my cup of coffee for people watching. The toothless bum was cackling and shouting something incomprehensible, holding what I am pretty sure was a lit joint. The police just don't come around to parks like this...it seems they have ceded them as a sort of no-man's land, which means anything goes. A small crowd had gathered to watch the bum's antics..."Bom-baba-DOO!" he shouted at me with a laugh. On my way home from work there have lately been games of football catch in the park, which means it is still a somewhat wholesome community gathering place. That's what I like about Mount Pleasant. It is like one big family...and even where there is crime, there seems to be a strong respect for family values. 4 stars...this is a DC treasure, as far as the crowd goes--strange, boisterous, yet harmless folks...but since there is no grass, minus one star.
