What doesn't Richard Branson own? Seriously? The appallingly large Virgin gym is an eyesore and is conveniently located across from the only Hooters in the UK. Which by the way makes it a bit dodgy trying to get there without being hit by some idiot trying to get a bud light and an ass grab. Anyway I went with a friend for a one day free trial to see what this gym was all about, or what it wasn't. The basic price, if you dint sign up for a 6-12 month membership, is about 65 GBP per month which is outrageous as they don't provide towels,the male staff are orangutans, and you have to bring your own lock. One of the more comprehensive gyms in the Virgin Active chain. I can't understand why it is rated so low. Has lots of treadmills, cross-trainers, bikes, free-weights and weight machines, decent large pool, kids/aqua pool, individual steam rooms and saunas in changing rooms, crèche, café, PC zone, ladies-only area, 3 large class rooms and a spin room. read more

One of the greatest gym around, well worth the money. It has many gym equipments to use. Staff are friendly and super helpful and are very knowledgeable in there job. You will have access to gym, swimming pool and stream room and sauna. There is Male, female and family changing room for access. Its is a disabled friendly building. They have multiple classes to attend. Many well trained PT to help you towards your goals and are there to help you achieve them. There is a small cafe there with many healthy foods, cold and hot drinks.. They are always improving to make your experience better. Would completely recommend this gym for all to attend young or old. read more

The customer service is absolutely awful. Booking classes seems to be impossible. And even if you make a formal complaint, they will tell you that you could attend the classes anyway... What if you tried and there was absolutely no space for an additional person as the room was packed? On the top of that, even if your contract finished they will not let you to just cancel the direct debit, but they require 1 month written notice! Seriously?! The company just cares about money, not about the customers.... It is a big "no" from me! read more

This gym is amazingly complacent. I tried to enquire about membership and was told there was no one to talk to me- and the sales team would call back. After six hours waiting I tried again and was treated rudely by some rather under educated telephonist. Does Richard Branson not want new customers......obviously not. I joined the gym after having had a serious injury and wanted to my fitness levels back. I was encouraged that they seemed knowledgeable and informative and eager to help me. Following joining I signed up to multiple personal training sessions to assess me (at great expense). This happened but from there on in, everything failed. It took multiple attempts to get the promised follow up training plan from my personal trainer and by the time I finally got it (over a month after doing the sessions), I could not remember the appropriate techniques to get it right. I tried to get assistance but to no avail. I did not want to pay more for the same level of service so just used the pool but found myself taking very expensive swims and preferring to run on the streets for free in the end without ever getting to the route course of my initial injuries. Having made 2 calls to try and cancel my membership I was made to go through a lengthy procedure to make this happen rather than them take action, take my details and get the bottom of the problem to try and retain my membership and find out why I was cancelling. In the end I cancelled my own DD to get a response so they then wrote to me! This meant I again had to take my own action to call them and resolve. Still no call back. Eventually they contact me wanting extra for the remaining few days of membership following cancellation (5 days) and the membership team ended up arguing with me. I'm sat in an office surrounded by marketers and sales. They were absolutely astounded that the person let the call get to that level and still never once wanted to get to the bottom of why or see it as a positive as to how they can improve their systems. Go to the new council gym or Holme Pierrepoint. Half the price, friendly staff and no pretense. read more
