I stayed at a hotel nearby, and visited this gym recently. I went to Gymbox earlier in the week,…read morebut I found it significantly underwhelming compared to this gym. First this gym is 24 hours, so props to that. Second, it has 2 floors, a ground floor for mostly cardio and the lower level for weight training and a crossfit/functional weight area. The price is reasonable too, but the sign-up process is pretty tedious. Because the facility is so automated, so have to enter a code to get someone to show you around the place. There's a couple of kiosks available to sign up, but I recommend just signing up via the website if possible. I didn't understand how to get into the place until I had it explained to me, since I come from the US, where they have no such automated door system in place. Apparently you enter in a code, press the OK button, and you step inside the pod, and the other side will open when the first side closes. In addition to being more automated, it also reduces the airflow from the outside, which I presume indirectly saves them air conditioning and heating, though the airflow actually might be a drawback when you go downstairs to do barbell / free weight training, because it kind of smells slightly. On the whole, considering it's in London, and the alternatives are simultaneously more expensive and smaller, this is actually a good deal. But even though the weights are re-racked (which doesn't happen all the time stateside), they were all in the wrong place. It's almost like people just put it wherever there was space, no matter whether it was even a matching or pair space for the dumbbells. But once again, for the price and location, this is really small potatoes. I could see myself going here more often if I were staying here longer for a visit.

When I…read moreintroduced myself at the desk and said that it was the first time I was visiting, the lady on reception was so friendly and helpful, gave me a tour of the facilities, explained that the pools are public and the health club side is members-only, but that through Move GB I could choose which side to use. As I was only there to swim I gave the sauna and steam room a miss this time and went on through to the pool side. Only the main pool was open (it was around 7.30pm on a Thursday), but it is a good sized pool. There is also a teaching pool and I think there are outdoor pools too for summer! There were a few different lessons happening, and the two remaining lanes for lane swimming were a bit confusing and not very well patrolled in regards to the direction of swimming, and the whole pool was quite busy. This was probably worsened when half of one of those lanes was cordoned off for an aqua aerobics class, but it didn't bother me as I took part in the class! And it was great exercise! The changing rooms are mixed/ family ones, a good size with plenty of lockers that take tokens, which you can get for £1 from reception. Overall a welcoming place, and probably better when it is not quite so busy!

But in reality all it provides is a separate changing rooms for monthly paying guests The entrance lobby is poorly designed and the men's changing room is split into two on the ground floor, fitted out with what looked like the cheapest fittings they could find. Upstairs on the main gym floor - most the equipment was showing its age. All 1990's equipment squeezed in. The dumb bells had chunks missing from the rubberised edges and looked terrible. Considering the competition around, its extremely poor value for money. Having been a member at more modern gyms, you really notice how totally out of date and ratty this place is.

Mind you, the prices are high, but they match the eyebrows of all the SAHM's (that's Stay-At-Home-Moms for all you losers) that will look you over because you're (I'm) a decade younger than them. Maybe I'm being unfair with my 3-star review, but it's personal. (That wasn't a typo)...

They organise a great event with fireworks in the fall. Lots of courses and classes. Gym is clearly where they spent most in recent years. Lots of machines etc. As they say on Zoopla "in need of updating" (the hallways have needed fresh varnish for at least 3 years, the changing rooms for about 5y, the small child playing area was probably used by the staff when they were young...). The food is often disappointing and slow. Especially if you eat in the formal restaurant where you often wait 50+ minutes for food. So much hardly anyone eats there anymore. All in all good but well below its potential. The place feels like it would benefit from a manager that is more visible/present and makes you feel like he/she cares.
