At the risk of giving away TMI about myself (which I may have already done in previous reviews, so…read morewhy become suddenly modest now?), this past year has been a wearying slog of doctors, appointments, examinations, tests, medicines, more tests, etc. etc. It started with: (1). A physical with my doctor. I went specifically because I had to in order to get a refill of my migraine medication. My doctor found something about my heartbeat disturbing enough for him to make an appointment for me with... (2). The Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center in Livingston. Got tested there. But I wasn't finished. Not by a long shot. I had more tests at... (3). St. Barnabas Hospital. Good hospital, but my experiences there haven't always been the best. Then... (4). Sleep Disorders Center at St. Barnabas (somehow, my review for their Livingston location changed to West Orange, but I'm too sleep deprived at this point to try and rectify that error...). By then, I was resigning myself to the probability of having sleep apnea. Shortly afterward, I received a phone call and was told (I'm paraphrasing, but not by much), "Not only do you have sleep apnea, you have SEVERE sleep apnea." Needless to say, this wasn't news designed to help me sleep easier at night. An appointment was made for me at Pulmonary Consultants in Milburn, a town not too far from where I live, but one I know very little about. On the day of the appointment, I used a copy of Google Maps to help me navigate my way to the location. It didn't go smoothly. I was ok until I hit a high-class residential area. I asked one woman walking on the sidewalk where Milburn Ave. was. She ignored me. I asked 2 women loading a car. They, too, ignored me. Feeling increasingly like I was in a Twilight Zone episode ("Have I died? Am I ghost? Can they even see or hear me?"), or had been mistaken for a masher, I drove straight ahead and thankfully managed to find Milburn Ave on my own and the medical complex where Pulmonary Consultants have their office. Once you actually get to Milburn Ave., it's a convenient location. Go straight a little bit and turn left, right into the medical complex. Plenty of parking, and a building with a variety of doctor offices catering to different medical conditions. My problem on entering the office where my appointment had been set up was that Dr. Vagram Ovnanian was sick that day. The office had called me to let me know, but our wires had somehow gotten crossed. It didn't bother me too much (I'm perfectly willing to procrastinate, especially when I suspect that the news I'm going to get from the doctor I'm visiting isn't going to be good news). At least I now knew where the office was. An appointment was set for the following week. At that appointment, everything went smoothly (although I again got lost in the residential area, and there were no residents walking around to ignore me when I asked them for directions). The office staff was polite, efficient, friendly. There was no long wait in the office. Dr. Ovnanian was pleasant, informative, and he was able to put me at my ease (not always an easy thing to do with a neurotic hypochondriac like me). I didn't feel rushed; my questions were answered patiently, even when they were off topic (for instance; the following day, I was scheduled to have a blood test with my regular MD to see if I have hemochromatosis, a blood disorder that Irish people tend to get. My genetic great aunt had it. Dr. Ovnanian said it was "rare," but he wasn't all that familiar with the specifics of the disorder). My sleep apnea wasn't severe; in fact, it was "mild to moderate." Still, he recommended I use CPAP and the order for the CPAP unit was placed. I'm not necessarily looking forward to using it, but it is what it is. If it helps prevent me from dying of a stroke or heart attack (heart health in my genetic maternal line is not good; my youngest genetic sister, in her 30s, already has a pacemaker), I'm all for it. I have another appointment in a few months. I'm not going to lie and say I look forward to it, but after my initial visit, I have full confidence that I'm in "good hands." Recommended.

I'm sorry I didn't post this review of my treatment with Dr. David Posner, MD much sooner, since…read moremuch was going on in my life in the last few years since I saw Dr. Posner, on March 2019. I had been in past treatment for what had been diagnosed as asthma since 2019 when I was a patient at the Lenox Hill Northwell Medicine Clinic at 178 East 85Th Street, 2nd floor. There I saw various internal medicine RESIDENTS who report to their attending physician supervisors, who put me on Albuterol, and Flovent. I decided to make an appointment with a pulmonologist at my wonderful hospital health care system, namely Lenox Hill Hospital of Northwell Health. Dr. David Posner MD was highly suggested to me and then I did my own research on his qualifications, reviews on multiple sites, Yelp, Healthgrades, Vitals, Google Reviews, etc. Hence, upon meeting Dr. Posner I was amazed at his kindness, bedside manner, and listening skills! I explained all, and he set me up for a lung challenge test among a few other tests, and low and behold, I NEVER HAD ASTHMA NOR COPD!!! Dr. Posner explained all in detail, took his time with me, and is one of the best medical doctors at Lenox Hill Hospital of Northwell Health and their pulmonary clinic on the 3rd floor of 178 East 85Th Street, New York, NY 10028. I was further treated with professionalism by the front desk staff, which is extremely important, and the clinic is beautiful. Dr. Posner will always continue to be my go to pulmonologist at Lenox Hill Hospital of Northwell Health in any future issues regarding any pulmonary issues or questions. I highly recommend Dr. Posner!!!!!

I had an extremely frustrating and disappointing experience with this pulmonology office,…read morespecifically due to front office practices that created unnecessary barriers to care and disregarded patient confidentiality. I arrived for a scheduled appointment to review my pulmonary function test results and discuss personal healthcare concerns with my doctor. I did not have my physical insurance card with me, as my renewed card is currently being mailed, which is a very common situation since insurance information often changes annually. The receptionist told me I could not see the doctor without the card. No alternatives were offered. I was not informed that I could self pay, be billed later. Because I was told I could not be seen, I rescheduled the appointment and left the office. After leaving, I called the office because my original purpose for being there was to review test results and ask important, personal healthcare questions. I requested that the doctor call me back when time permitted, making it clear this did not need to be the same day and could be at his convenience. During that call, both the receptionist and what I believe was the office manager repeatedly pressed me to disclose the specific reason I wanted to speak with my doctor. I stated clearly that it was personal and related to my healthcare and that I preferred to discuss it directly with my physician. That was not accepted. At no point should a patient be required to disclose private medical details to administrative staff simply to request a callback from their doctor. While general context may be appropriate, insisting on more detailed explanations undermines patient confidentiality. Under HIPAA, patients have the right to limit disclosure of protected health information, especially when such details are not necessary for scheduling or message routing. During the call, the office manager did state that once my new insurance card arrived, I could call back and provide the updated information. However, this missed the entire purpose of my call. I was not calling to reschedule an appointment. I was requesting communication with my doctor regarding my health. That request was effectively denied unless I disclosed information I was not comfortable sharing with office staff. To make matters worse, when I asked if I could simply email the doctor instead, I was told that I could not have his email address. At that point, all reasonable avenues to communicate with my physician had been blocked. I was also later told that I could have been billed for the visit had I stayed, which was never communicated to me at the time I was turned away. That lack of transparency directly resulted in me not receiving care that day. Although the office manager's tone was professional, the policies being enforced were not patient-centered. I left feeling dismissed, unheard, and discouraged from continuing care at this practice. Because of how this situation was handled, I will not be returning and would not recommend this office to patients who value access to their physician, clear communication, and respect for medical privacy. Experiences like this raise serious concerns about how patient access, communication, and privacy are handled within this practice and warrant review by higher administrative or regulatory oversight. I want to be clear that my issue is not with the physician. My initial visit with Dr. Hetal Patel was excellent. He took the time to explain my lung function testing and my condition in a very detailed, informative, and professional manner, which is exactly what drew me to continue care with him. The young woman who assisted me with my pulmonary function exam was also kind, professional, and thorough. Those positive clinical experiences are the reason I wanted to remain with this doctor and this practice. Unfortunately, today's experience with the front office staff completely overshadowed that. The rigid restrictions on communication, refusal to facilitate even basic contact with my physician, and lack of transparency regarding care options left me with no confidence that I could continue receiving appropriate and timely healthcare here. I cannot remain with a practice where access to my own physician feels unnecessarily blocked.
