Petra Hotel
Absolutely DISCOURAGE anyone from doing business with this property. Cannot stress this enough…read more It is a complete dump in addition to being hard to locate and deal with. They claim to be a four star hotel in Rome. They do not deserve one star... but had to select one to post. The primary building is closed. Their smaller building accommodated us for only one night and we were told that they would not respect the reservation we held and had prepaid 2 months in advance. They lied about having sent a cancelation and claimed it was because they had closed, but everything in our room and all signage, including the receipt left by another customer on the credit card machine showed Hotel Petra doing business the same day we arrived. They told Hotwire and Expedia that Hotel Petra had overbooked and would therefore pay to accommodate us at another local hotel, but the other hotel had no such arrangement. There are so many better places to stay in Rome. Thank goodness we have been able to rebook amidst the influx of crowds coming to Rome for the Holy Week. TRULY HOPE NOT ONE PERSON WILL HAVE TO ENDURE THE DISHONESTY AND LACK OF SERVICE AND AMENITIES WE ESCAPED.

We were visiting Rome for the weekend (we are stationed in Naples). The owner is very friendly and speaks pretty good English. We arrived at night and he told us where we could get some food. The bedrooms were clean and had the basics (bed, wardrobe, desk, bathroom with shower). One thing to keep in mind is that items you would find in a hotel (shampoo, bodywash, soap, etc) is not included. Not a huge deal, but coming from America, I expect that, so just keep that in mind and bring some travel sizes with you. He brought breakfast to our room Saturday. We opted not to have breakfast on Sunday because we wanted to get a really early start since it was our last day there. It was nice not to have to worry about where to eat breakfast. There was free wifi as well and he showed us how to connect to it. The metro station is within a 5-10 minute walk and the owner gives you a business card with directions to the metro station (very helpful!). From there we took the subway into the city. Overall it was a decent experience and I would stay here again. The price was pretty good too (140 euro for 2 nights).
