The owner here is very friendly and personable. She said she had no holiday plans for the 4th itself during the day and her family were out doing their own thing so she decided to open the doors... And we appreciate that! The shop is laid out into three sections. The front main display area. A back room area. And a small room off to the side of the front counter. Very easy to navigate. Don't forget to look at the outside items too! Prices are reasonable and it was a welcome stop during our trip. Heather picked up a couple of things while I walked out empty handed...this time. If I only had one recommendation, it would be to make way for those who are in wheelchairs or walkers. In fairness, they have a relatively small space. This store you won't find garbage on the floors, dirty changing rooms or smelly bathrooms. It's not uncommon for what thrift shoppers have to put up with for a good bargain these days. If you are interested in music it is necessary to ask the owner for the organization method in order to find what you are looking for. Do bring cash. Cards are not accepted. Prices are fair. You can get better at a yard sale, but have to spend a long time looking. You are spend much more at a dedicated record store and get better organizing and renewed sleeves. I would got back.

I think the front bagged stuff was a good selection but I can't pay those prices when discogs and eBay exist. I have an ultrasonic and returns are guaranteed online. I'll gamble online before paying $30 for a record I've seen elsewhere for $5-10. Plus most good albums have been reissued at about $20. Some people may want an OG copy, I don't get paying more than the reissue price for a used OG record that looks eh.... Now the stuff in back had some good stuff too, but it should have been $5 a record and I'd have bought a bunch, they're just not worth $10 for common stuff. I don't need to fill out my collection that much, and nothing was rare or uncommon really. I managed to find a couple things I was ok with buying, was eventually helped at the counter, and was then told they only take cash. Who carries cash? I'm not 60..... cards are everything these days. So I wasted a half hour to an hour browsing through overpriced records just to be turned away. I could have found an ATM, but I'm out of town. So we tack an ATM fee on to the overpriced records too? Nah, didn't feel like it, so drove back to my hotel in Cedar Rapids... If you need decent copies of mostly basic albums (classics) with the occasional gem or underpriced record, come here with a lot of time, and cash only. Moral of this story? A question - You talked my ear off when I arrived but mentioned nothing of cash only? Waste of both our time.

As a beader, this store is a dream come true. Every item I need from the wires, beads, threads,…read moreneedles, etc. are all in one place. They even carry ultra-suede for my beaded embroidery. The completed projects on display are pure eye candy for me. They also sell some gorgeous completed items for the non-artistic. First off, the storefront and sign are eye catching. And while Beadology Iowa changed names like a decade ago, this go-to bead store has lived in Iowa City for over 30 years. I walked in and was greeted with a smile. (That's always the best, isn't it?) As a non-jewelry maker I was amazed to see the different materials the beads were made of? Like; stone, pearl, metal, organic, glass, chrystal and one-of-a-kind flamework beads. WOWZA. Beads. Beads. Beads. Everywhere! Organized chaos of every color and from all over the world. There was eclectic jewelry for sale throughout the store-- which was made in house? I believe. Plus, an assortment of tools for jewelry making and other supplies. The staff appeared to be super knowledgeable, but I mean-- it's not like I'd have known :) The thing that really impressed me was just how passionate everyone I chatted with seemed. They were definite artists pumped to educate me on their craft. Classes are offered-- which I definitely need to hit up sometime. Wirework, stringing, knotting, flame-work, glass work, etc... The staff is really nice and is always willing to help out. Any time I have gone in there to get my wife a surprise they have always helped me pick something out and my wife always loves it. Very clean and modern. It's not very common to see such a nice Boutique in a Casino especially a Iowa Casino.
