The painting was a gift to my sister and not only did the recipient love her gift from me, I loved the gift that Katherine gave me. She helped me to understand that time is precious and if it is spent wisely, any goal could be accomplished. If you are even considering taking a painting class, I would give this school a chance. It will change your view on your own creativity and your view on what it means to teach. Katherine is a gem! She, and her school, cannot be replicated or duplicated. I am sad that I will probably not be able to find anything like them where I am moving. Oh, and the ice cream breaks in the summer aren't so bad either.

I have lived in the Somerville area for years now and in that time thought about how nice it would be to have a creative space. I dabbled in the fine arts in school, but without the physical space and guidance, lost the motivation to explore further. This school has allowed me the opportunity to do so. The instructor, Katherine, is a wonderful teacher, providing just the right amount of instruction and is one of many reasons why the school has such an encouraging environment. The studio itself is lovely. It's on the third floor with lots of windows and a sky light. Usually the soft voices of Billy Holiday or Nina Simone waft through the air. In addition, the students (many of whom have been attending for years) are from all different backgrounds/ages and are a pleasure to get to know.

Lenka's mixed-ages class quickly became the highlight of our week. She is an incredible educator and her positive energy is immediately apparent. Music Together is an incredible program.... the music and the songbooks quickly became favorites in my household... we still use all of them to this day. Lenka, however, is the shining star of the program. She is adored by my kids and I know will be one of those people I happily remember when I reflect back on "the toddler years". We've been amazed watching our daughter develop musically over the past year and a half. She's also been able to have positive experiences with other safe adults and children at different developmental stages. Lenka is a fantastic teacher and makes classes fun for everyone! 1. Illegal bait and switch 2. Complete incompetence…read more3. Unhinged rude attitude 1. Illegal bait and switch - I called and asked if I could bring a guitar for assessment. Guy on phone said I could bring in and they'd assess for free. After five minutes of my free assessment, the lady tried to charge me for it. The guy then changed his story and said he actually meant that they would assess it for free only if I dropped it off but not dropped by with it (which doesn't make much sense if you think about it) 2. Complete incompetence - A) I told her that the guitar frets were out of tune. She denied it and said nothing was wrong with the guitar. B) I told her I wanted to action lowered. She said it was impossible to lower it anymore without causing buzzing. C) I told her something was rattling when I played the open G string. She said it could be anything causing it, even a loose truss rod So I took it to Stubblebine lutherie. Without even playing it, he inspected everything about the guitar - he listed exactly what was causing it to be out of tune (mainly the nut grooves), exactly how the action could easily be lowered without causing buzzing (he said the action was actually pretty high), and exactly what was causing the rattling (loose tuner component), and offered to fix everything for 100 dollars 3. Unhinged attitude - She started making fun of me for the questions I was asking. When I handed her the tuner, a rubber piece fell off, and she blamed me for breaking it to her coworker. When I pointed out that some of the frets we're out of tune, she blamed it on how I tuned it. When I clarified that I was told on the phone that the assessment would be free, she started to try to guilt me into paying and trying to get me to tell her how much money I made in my job. When I eventually did offer money because I felt bad, she made fun of me again

During a recent visit to get my daughter's clarinet repaired, I encountered mean spiritedness and…read morehovering, (by two different people but still...)! The middle-aged woman who initially greeted me and looked at my instrument was helpful and kind but not as knowledgeable as the second, older woman who was clearly running the show and ended up helping me. A third and younger woman stood so close to me until she was sure I was acknowledged by the middle-aged woman, if we weren't wearing masks, I'm sure I would've felt her breath on the back of my neck. The initial impression was enough to make me want to leave and not return, but my daughter really needed a clarinet and time was not on my side. So I swallowed hard and tried to make the best of things by staying engaged in conversation with the kinder middle-aged woman.I made it through the ordeal and decided to vocalize my disappointment here because while I don't know the first thing about instruments, I do know good service, and I did not experience that here. So, despite the fact that I ended up getting a loaner from Wood & Strings, as my kid's clarinet was busted, I can't in good conscience recommend this place because the service was subpar. It's unfortunate too, because the shop is so close and my kids are really getting into instruments that I see myself investing lots of money. But the woman was just so snotty and condescending, (of course in a "no disrespect intended" sort of way), if I don't have a better experience upon returning the loaner, they're going to lose a good customer because I won't be going back. Even if the prices are good, it's just not worth the hassle!

We had several teachers during the journey and every teacher is fantastic. They really know how to motivate the kids and find the best pieces for them to enjoy the music. The instructors are also very respect to the kids by listening to their opinions and understanding of the music. Moreover, the director, Svetlana is always super patient and helpful to find the best suitable instructor to make the smooth transition, and extremely supportive to help the kids grow naturally. If I had an easy child, I am sure it would have been a good program, but my child is a bit challenging but is sweet, smart and well- behaved.. He did ok with the camp. I found out during xylophone class my child was being disruptive the first half of the year and not participating the 2nd half of the year. What really annoys me is that there was no communication with me the Mom. If a student is having trouble for an extended period of time, the parent should be contacted and a plan created. I was told, well its only a 45 minute group class and the teacher is busy. Well, that is unacceptable without proper parent communication, expectations could not be set. My 6 year old now has no interest in instrumental music. Also, during last year's music class i was called to pick up my child because he could not stop crying...Well, turns out he had a small cut near his eye and needed 3 stitches. He was injured by the sharp edge of the whiteboard. Instead of looking at his face, the teacher was annoyed that he was crying. I ended up asking for a partial refund because it was clear that my son was not prepared for the end of the year performance and he is a lot happier now. They also have a draconian refund policy. I understand that this is a school but they are so money hungry that they are inflexible. If you have that perfect child, this school may work well for you. If you have a more mature student this may be the school for you. But beware.
