Not being able to get food, a table, a drink, or get on a hayride just isn't fun. Today we decided to try our luck at a new spot, Sunny Acres Farm. Sunny Acres took us roughly 30 minutes to drive to. Parking was close, easy, and free. Adult tickets are $10. My children (four and under) were free. Sunny Acres has a small storefront with pumpkins, baked goods, salsas, candy apples, etc. They have various vendors lined up on the short walk to the pumpkin patch. Vendors include artists, kettle corn, and other refreshments. Admission includes access to the petting zoo, bouncy house, pick your own flowers, hayride, corn hole, live music, corn maze, games, and playground. My son rode a pony for $2. The lines were either nonexistent or short. The employees (or perhaps owners?) were friendly, accommodating, and provided a family feel that other similar businesses lack. We ate a meal while we were there. We had hamburgers and hot dogs. I know they also had chili behind the storefront and various other food trucks, including ice cream and adult beverages (cocktails and craft beer). I can't think of anything Sunny Acres lacks. I'm actually afraid of word getting out and having to share this experience with too many people. But, this family farm is worth patronizing.

We both settled for the buffet which had seasonal fruit salad, Cole Slaw, fried chicken, ham, vegetables, chicken and dumplings AND dessert including 3 cobblers. I really liked the ham. The rest seemed to be items that sat on the buffet too long, not fresh. My wife agreed as far as the chicken goes. It just seemed 2nd rate. The blackberry cobbler was good, but the ice cream cups were melted, probably because they weren't sitting on ice. I don't know that I could recommend the buffet. We got it because it came with the dessert for just a little more than a regular entree. I trust a regular entree would be fresher, then buy a dessert if so desire. Our server was very nice, but now I forgot her name. I believe we will visit again, but doubtful about getting the buffet.

Today the orchard/winery comprises over 700 acres and is being run by the 7th generation of the Huber family. Their Pumpkin Pretzels have an orangish sugary coating that actually reminds me of the coating on the Pumpkin Pie Kit Kats that were released a few years ago. It's a mild and sweet pumpkin flavor that should please most. The texture is slightly waxy and smooth on the exterior and satisfyingly crunchy within. What makes them so addicting is the combination of sweet and salty. Pretzels generally do not jump to mind as a go to combination pumpkin treat, but in this case, it works well enough. Everyone commented on the food and said how it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding. Huber's is forever one of our most special places. A year after our wedding, my husband and I came back for pumpkins and it was here that I told him I was pregnant! Now we can't wait to take our kids here and create more memories.

We arrived a little bit early and had lunch at the cafe on-site, which was pretty good, and then we checked in for our tour. What people may not know is that below the gift shop area is where a lot of the barrels and such are. I think our tour guide's name was Ricky and she was very good, I learned a little bit about the distillery. We had chosen the bottle your own experience, which ended up being really unique. At the end of the tour, we got to taste a few of the bourbons, literally from the barrels, and then we got to fill a bottle from one of the open barrels. After that, we put a sticker/the label one, plus one with our name, and another with the back label. Differentiation was encouraged, although we all put them on standardly except for my husband, who had the four of us plus Ricky sign the bottle, which was fun. I believe the tour was $100 each, and just the bottle itself would've been like $80, so for $20 extra, it was a good deal. At the end of the tour, they let us taste a good portion of their wines and other whiskeys and bourbons; I will say their wines were not that great, unfortunately, though there were two that I liked and purchased. They were very generous with the tastings and I don't think there was a maximum number ... I tasted maybe 1/3 of what was on the sheet, aka open for tastings. Overall I would come back here, although I probably wouldn't need to do the tour a second time (it would be fun to see the rickhouses, though).
