Villa's TKD is an excellent privately owned dojang that is committed to their students and athletes. My son started here nine years ago when he was slightly under five years old. We enrolled him after he showed interest in the classes, and we kept him in there because of the discipline, athleticism, the respect, and his development in becoming a great human being. My son is now in the gold competition team and is competing all over the USA and internationally as well. There is no wonder why Villa's Taekwondo is rated the number one Sparring school in the nation. With the leadership of Master Gus and Master Damian Villa we are hopeful that our son will become a World Champion and a future Olympian. We have seen this school at tournaments for years (my son has been competing for 5 years), and whenever we saw the villas' kids enter a tournament, you hear the sighs of the kids. Not only do they dominate at tournaments, but their team is huge. Last year, we joined villas and was worried about how they would look at us coming from another school, and wow, everyone was so welcoming, and the kids were great. We truly felt at home. The instructors are topnotch, and we cannot be happier. But a warning is if you want to join the competition team, be prepared to work hard because these guys don't play around and you can tell just by watching them. read more

I can't help but recommend this Taekwondo studio to anyone that wants to put their kids in martial arts. My kids all train at Villa's Taekwondo. I loved the way they taught their curriculum enough to join myself. I never felt embarrassed joining as an adult, taking classes with kids. It's a great way to exercise and know what your body is capable of. The masters and instructors at this school are highly knowledgeable and very qualified to teach taekwondo. Master Gus and Master Damian are both very accomplished athletes with both medaling at very prestigious tournaments. Taekwondo is a highly ritualized, extraordinarily grueling sport in which, very basically, players wearing helmets and chest armor score points by kicking each other on the midsection and occasionally the head.. (Sometimes, but not always, they are allowed to punch each other.) sounds pretty basic right? Wrong! As with most sports, it has its own language, conventions and idiosyncrasies. But while most sports are fairly easy to work out, at least in a rudimentary way, that is not the case here. While most schools in the area go through the daily motions and fixed schedule classes, that is never the case at Villa's Taekwondo. Here, not only is the Villa name held by those that bear the name, but by all of its students, instructors, and parents. Master Gus is highly knowledgable and a highly skilled fighter and instructor who graciously shares his fighting skills. Most importantly, in the ongoing development of the sport, he continuously teaches his "family" (that being his students and literally his family) the new fighting styles and gives everyone the opportunity to be great by treating everyone with the same respect and regard no matter what your belt color is. This has been a home for me for 11 years. The Villa family makes it not only a martial arts school but a great family environment. Villa's TKD has been the best experience of my life. The oldest son Master Gus Villa is very hands on and willing to always help. He has not only been a great friend but an exceptional coach/trainer. As a former student I can say for certain that I would not recommend this place. It used to be better when it was under the ownership of Master Villa instead of his son. He has no tolerance for talking even in the slightest of terms. He is often rash and overreacting to simple questions. For instance a student may try to help correct a mistake and he often gets angry for "challenging his authority". It does not bold well for children with ADHD and other people that do not fit his exact mold. Do not bring your children here if they are very social and hyper active. For instance he often singles out a person who talks a lot/has had problems following orders and blames them for talking when everyone else is talking. He has his favorites and if you are not one well good luck to you. I understand that he has to maintain discipline but he often uses the more talkative kids as an example for everyone, even when they don't deserve it. I myself have seen him humiliate and even "threaten" (using this loosely as we are talking about kids not adults) people in front of everyone. I would lower this to a 1 star but I do see the benefits and enjoyment of this activity, it also helps that one of the instructors is more laid back and befriends students, often backing them up. read more
