When you think "pediatric dental office" a myriad of horrifying thoughts come to mind: drills, bloody gums, screaming children... you get the picture. Villalon Callis Pediatric Dentistry is the absolute opposite. The holy grail of dental offices. You and your little one will find yourselves wanting to stay well after the visit is over. The office features tons of amenities for the entire family. The waiting area comes equipped with a theater room showing the latest films (e.g. Transylvania 2, The Good Dinosaur), and an arcade room with a futuristic 360° console that has everything from Playstation and X Box to Classic Nintendo games! And why should your kiddo have all the fun? For adults they offer massage chairs, TV with surround sound, gourmet coffee (and other refreshments), and complimentary wi-fi. The extremely kind staff and quick paperwork (done via iPad) will ensure that your first visit is pleasant and seamless. Past the doors, out of the waiting room and into the dentist's office, you will find fully themed areas showcasing Disney and Pixar movies (I even saw some Harry Potter)! Stuffed animals, posters, toys, and full-sized characters adorn the office creating a sense of wonderment to put your child's mind at ease. My daughter went in for a general check-up in the Monsters Inc. themed room. The entire staff was so sweet to my little one, which made even the dreaded X-rays a breeze to get through. After X-rays, they reclined the dental chair so it was completely flat. Next came a pair of complimentary sunglasses and wireless headphones so she could watch a movie of her choice on the ceiling-mounted TV! Dr. Callis is a lovely young dentist who has a real knack for children. After deducing that my daughter had "the best teeth [they'd] seen all day," a hygienist came in and did a cleaning on her pearly whites. To my surprise, after the visit was over, I was handed a gift bag with a lovely customized water bottle inside! As we approached the exit, they asked if they could take a picture of Lily for their patient file. Again, they surprised us with a fridge magnet with Lily's picture that said, "Our Newest Star!" Grown-ups aren't the only ones who get presents. After a happy visit, your child will get a goody of his/her choosing from one of the various free toy vending machines, and a balloon! And don't forget to grab a flavored chap stick at the checkout counter (I chose Strawberry Aloe Vera, but there are several other flavors). I swear, they give more free swag than an Elite Yelp event. My only complaint is that with so many wonderful features, it might be difficult to convince your child to leave! By the way, this dentist office only services kids.. I asked so you don't have to. I implore you to get your child in here as a patient before there's no more room. I promise that after just one visit, your child will have plenty of reasons to smile besides having healthy teeth. read more

Went here for my children's first dental visit. They have a movie room that was playing Happy Feet when we arrived and they also have a game room for bigger kids. One massage chair available as well. The front staff seem a little TOO professional- considering their business is pediatric dentistry- seemed like they didn't relate too well with the moms that were coming in the door to check in with their children. However, the staff in the back seemed more agreeable - maybe it was the scrubs/pajama feel that made them less stern looking. More parental involvement would make this a 4-star. At the end of the visit, they provide a prize and a balloon for each child. read more

Do not take your kid here for orthodontic work! They are not orthodontists!! They do not have the specialty training that true orthodontists have! After being in braces for 4 years with them, my new dentist said my bite was so bad I'd get arthritis in my jaw if I didn't get braces again. Ridiculous! I'm not the only person with this kind of experience either- I've heard at least 4 people with a similar story. Also, my current orthodontist (yes, I'm in braces again!) told me this isn't the first time he's had a patient come from Villalon Callis. They just want your money! I had back to back morning appointments for both my children. They were 2.5 and 16 months. This was their first dental visit and I had booked our first appointment at 8:30 am. They made us wait an hour to see the dentist. I was so mad, but at that point, I had already gotten my kids there (half the battle) and waited so long. I kept the appointment. We were finally taken back and led into the exam room. We passed the dentist on the way. He was on his computer. He made us wait another 10 minutes in the exam room before he came in. He eventually came in and spoke to me for, oh, about one minute. He looked into my kids mouths and that was it. No cleaning, no fluoride treatment, nothing. Then they gave us some water bottles with the Villalon logo, took my kids' pictures and gave them some toys and a balloon. Look, I don't need a dental office with a movie theater. We can watch movies at home. I don't need water bottles or toys. We have plenty. I need a dentist who will take an interest in the health of my children's teeth and be punctual while doing it. We did not get that here, but I'm sure they charged my insurance for a cleaning. My pediatrician has since referred me to Dr. Henry Delclos because my daughter's teeth need to be actually cleaned. So annoying. Save yourself some grief and try somewhere else....unless you need a new water bottle. read more

Non-professional and rude staff. They were adamant about doing a non-covered unnecessary x-ray for my 7-yr old even though we took that x-ray 6 months ago. I requested services only covered by my insurance (which covers cleaning twice a year), and this office (Cassandra) refused to admit my child without paying $130 for an absolutely unnecessary, rip-off x-ray. I asked to speak to the owning dentist, and was told "she does not have time". I just couldn't understand that since they really "need" to see this x-ray, why can't they do it as a courtesy instead of refusing a patient for a covered service. When I asked to speak to an office manager, I got this response from Cassandra "I am the manager here..". I left and called later and requested the dentist calls my me back. Same lady answered and assured he will call back same day. Nothing happened..... It's interesting that this office tried to rip me off in the past for x-rays for an orthodontic consultation (really?). I ended up going to Lemke orthodontics who did the x-ray and all nine yards in a first class office/service at absolutely no charge. Not bringing my kids again to this filthy place. read more

We have been in the Houston area twice (with kiddos), and we always bring our kids back to this office. Great experience from the moment we walk through the door each time. And yes - parents can accompany their kiddos during the appointment. I have three kids (10,9&4). We've gone for the past 2 years. The last time we lived in Texas, we went for 3 years. Unfortunately, we've had other opportunities to know this dentist office through misfortunes and procedures other than regular cleanings. One of my children suffered trauma to the front teeth. Dr. Villalon's office scheduled an immediate appointment and took very good care of my child and followed up. Another child had to have crowns on the back teeth because her teeth were extremely close and cavities formed. She was young and had to get shots in her mouth which made me nervous because she abhors needles (well checks are tedious). I still look back on that day, and I don't know how they did it. She was calm the entire visit and didn't even remember her shots! They took her needle phobia seriously and amazed me on their handling of it! When another child was 2.5, he was shy about going, but now he looks forward to it. The staff at the desk and behind the scenes are amazing. I highly recommend this office!! The office is nice and has lots of entertaining tools for kids . However, the fee he charged is outrageous. For the time visit, I paid $130 for initial exam and two x-rays only. The staff proposed a treatment plan for $4,800. My 7-year girl just had some cavities needs to be fixed. I was shock to see the proposal. I asked the staff that are all the works necessary and is there any other option or arrangement available. The young lady could not provide any suggestion and simply said that all the work is necessary. If I accept the plan, I will need to pay the whole amount upfront. I told her I will get a second opinion. Through referral, I found another pediatric dentist in the same area. The doc had through exam and proposed a $3,100 treatment plan. I accepted the proposal and very satisfied with the job. The staff was professional and explained the procedures clearly. I'd rather choose a professional team than fancy office and unprofessional staff. read more

Yes the staff was great, they made my kid comfy, and you get all kinds of goodies once you leave BUT!! and this is a big one for me. If any actual work needs to be done, not only will they sedate your kid, but : THEY WILL NOT ALLOW YOU IN THE ROOM! This is just absurd. With all that's going on in the news today HOW CAN ANYONE BE OK WITH THIS? Sure, they will tell you it's for your kids own protection, but lets face it. It's really about money. And making things easier for them. Anesthesia has so many risks and whatever they do to your kid they don't want you to see. FYI, the last two reviews look paid for. I took my 2 and 4 year olds there for back-to-back appointments at 8 am. We waited for over an hour in the waiting room and were at the office for nearly 3 hours without the dentist even cleaning my children's' teeth. He told me that my 4 year old needed to have a cap because he saw an area where a cavity could form. After raging about what a good patient she was, he told me she was going to have to be sedated for them to put the cap on my tooth and that it would cost nearly $800! I repeatedly asked if we could try it without the sedation but was told that was not an option because they didn't want her to be scarred by a bad dental experience. So we left and I decided to get a second opinion. I was going to see my dentist the next week so I asked him about it and he told me to get the x-rays and bring her in and he would take a look. So I called and emailed the office numerous times (about 15 phone calls and 10 emails) and never received copies of the x-rays. The days leading up to the apt, I called and stopped by the office several times and it was closed during what typically are their normal business hours (and it was not a holiday or even a holiday week). So I took her to my dentist where they had to do another set of x-rays since I couldn't get the copy (which I paid for with my insurance and is rightfully mine) and my dentist could not figure out why Dr. Villalon would want to put a cap on her tooth or why he would even think of sedating her to do it. She was an excellent patient even without the movie overhead and other pediatric gimmicks. I was so thankful that I questioned Dr. Villalon's opinion and took her for a second opinion. To other moms out there, please think twice before sedating your child and don't ever be afraid to ask questions. Trust your gut. And don't go here if you really care about your child's teeth. read more
