Laurie and Dr. K made my experience awesome. Dr. K's examinations are always very thorough and you can tell he truly cares about his patients. Laurie is one of the lovely people in the front. I'm very indecisive, and she gave me her honest opinion on my selections, and even selected a few for me to try on. She's very personable, helpful, and kind. I will always go back! read more

we have been going there for many, many years without any issues. The last time we went we felt like they were trying to charge us for every little thing. Usually it costs nothing as we go through our insurance, but the last time we were charged $40 each for a "new" test that was done. The right thing to do is to tell you beforehand that there is an additional charge and make it our choice, but they did not so we had to pay. Then they tried to get my husband back again in 3 months for a retest on that machine and another $40 because they saw a hint of cholesterol and they wanted to follow it. My husband gets his cholesterol checked at his PCP (which by the way is fine) so he doesn't need the ophthalmologist to check it too! Also their selection of glasses that comes free with our insurance isn't the greatest so my husband just got readers, which were supposed to be free. By the time he left they were $100! He said they put all these unnecessary extras on them which I did cancel when we got home. These were the same readers you get in the dollar store but they were charging $100! I'm not sure if it's the new management but the store has definitely changed and we will NOT be going back. This was actually a blessing in disguise as we found a much better place (real eyes optical) where they have a much better "free" selection, they actually helped pick out glasses that they thought would look good on us and there were NO extra fees, and the staff was amazing! read more

What a great group of positive people to deal with when you need to get glasses or have an eye exam, The doctor was very experienced and enthusiastic dealing with me and my wife, had a great selection of cool glasses that are super hip and affordable. I will definitely bring more business to this place in the future.. thanks village optical read more

They figured out what was going on with my eyes when another optometrist I saw a year ago didn't. Very knowledgeable doctor.

Village Optical was a great find for me. Greg is very knowledgeable and so helpful. PLUS patient. He told me why certain glasses would not be the right shape for my prescription. He went over everything my insurance covered and why it mattered or not. He said if I had any problems with my glasses to come right in. I love my new glasses! When you are looking for a great selection of frames and great customer service, look no further. read more

Like many other reviewers my wife and I were treated great. I wear progressives. Owner and optician Greg Blikstein, Doctor Stuart Krasnoff and the rest of the sheer staff took their time to get all the adjustments right. Their selection of frames enabled me to get what I needed and have it all covered by my insurance plan. Very friendly and helpful people. They will be our new eyewear provider. read more

Very disappointed in my service here. I am a first time customer and they charged me 40 dollars extra for a service I did not even request. I didn't even realize it until I made an appt for my husband and then they told me that there's a 40 dollar copay for the retinoid imaging. I explained politely to the guy that was helping me that I was never told upfront about this cost and it was just added on to the bill. His response "I will give you a discount for the next purchase". Unfortunately we won't be returning here for next time so I asked for a 40 dollar refund on my current bill and he refused to do so and just "apologized" for not letting me know in advance. I also felt that they were very pushy in regards to getting the blue light on my glasses and I explained that I didn't want anything more than what was covered under my insurance. What poor customer service and horrible treatment for a new customer. Will never return again!! read more

Village Optical - The 40 dollar copay - Eyewear & Opticians Near Me - New Hyde Park, New York

They're very nice here. I was having trouble putting this rubber ear sock on my Oakley glasses and the guy was able to help me right away. I really appreciated him taking the time to help me and being so attentive. Also, he noticed that my glasses were a bit crooked and offered to fix them, for free. Overall, it was a very positive experience and I would definitely come back in the future. read more

They are bunch of crooks. They do test and and charge before You could answer if you want that service or not. All things are they offer you like a salesman, do your research if you really need it before you except it. Don't go by what they say. read more

In response to Village Optical in New Hyde Park: It is apparent that Village Optical acted with discrimination when they were unwilling to make a simple accommodation such as using pen and paper to write out questions for a hearing impaired individual . I know you are not as you say "a special disabilities center", but American Disability Act clearly states that all establishments are required to make reasonable accommodations for individuals with hearing, speech or vision impairments. Using pen and paper to write out questions or typing out in text for a hearing impaired person to read is most certainly simple and reasonable. I'm still stunned by the excuse made by your staff member, "it would take too long and we don't have the time to do that." As a patient in the past, my daughter did not need you to make any accommodations because face mask were not required and she was able to lipread. Only due to Covid, we as returning customers hoped you would be more understanding and flexible. Instead you chose not to comply with ADA standards or even to show human compassion and sensitivity. Fortunately we found other Optical Centers that were more sensitive and willing to accommodate us without making lame excuses. read more

Was in urgent need of a pair of reading glasses, as Village Optical was around the corner from where I live, thought of getting my eye glasses from there. Greg was helpful in selecting a pair out for me for $300.00 with a guarantee, in case I damaged it, unfortunately I lost my glasses and asked Greg if I could get another pair for at least half the price, again he was showing me the $300.00 pair, I was rather disappointed and drove by to Warby Parker, Roosevelt Field Mall. and I got 2 pairs of beautiful eye glasses for $95 each. Nice sales representatives at Warby Parker, you buy a pair and the other donated to someone in need. Poor Customer Service. Will never visit Village Optical again. read more

Dr Krasnoff conducted a great, informative exam with a new retinal scan machine. Greg spent as much time as I needed to show me frames and explain all my new lens options. Very professional, knowledge and courteous. Also very Covid-19 safe!! Highly recommend!!! read more

Fast, smart, friendly, knowledgeable, going the extra mile - the whole team was great. And... if your glasses fog up, trust me the Optifog feature is worth the money - both for the winter and the way our glasses fog up when wearing a mask due to Covid 19 - I'll come back to that. Dr. Krasnoff gave me good advice, even when it was saving me money by telling me what I didn't need. Laurie made finding frames I liked and that looked good on me fast and easy. Greg worked with me when I wanted/needed some complicated things and found solutions that got me what I needed. I had an old pair of nice frames with lenses that never worked and wanted to get new lenses in them... but then on a whim, I asked if they had anything that would prevent my glasses from fogging up when wearing a mask and he told me about Optifog. It wasn't covered by my insurance and seemed a little expensive on my budget, and I was skeptical, but foggy glasses were driving me crazy - so I said sure let's look into it - and I'm glad I did. He went through my insurance for the nice frames that Laurie helped me pick out with good lenses that had everything I wanted, except the Optifog. Then got me a second pair of stand-alone lenses with the Optifog. He swapped the Optifog lenses into my brand new frames and the ones that had come through insurance into the older frames I had brought in - so I left with two great pairs without needing to buy a second pair of new frames. And... that was harder than it sounds since they were semi-rimless and swapping lenses can get tricky. Again, the whole team was great. Now, Optifog. It's great. Seriously. My glasses don't fog up at all 98% of the time, even when going in and out of the car or house with temperatures changing - or when wearing a mask in a store or wherever. I can't tell you how nice it is to be able to see clearly when wearing a mask for long periods of time. The only time any issue at all I was hiking for hours with a mask on upstate after it snowed last weekend and eventually I just needed to give the glasses a second rub down with the Optifog activator cloth and I was good for the rest of the hike. Optifog is built into the lenses but gets activated with a once a day rub down with the special activator cloth. Some days I don't use the cloth at all since I'm not always leaving the house during Covid, and even then they seem better than your average lenses. When I am going out for the day, or just a few hours to run errands and such, I just give them the once a day rub down and they work great. I already plan to bring my wife to see the team at Village Optical when she's ready to get new glasses and I will highly recommend them to anyone I hear looking to get new glasses. read more

I read a review initially about a gentleman named Greg who I have to beleive is the owner of the place and what agreat of a job he does for the customer which is why i went there in the first place ...With that being said this review is a long overdue ... Greg is not olny super informative and helpful before the sale but actually cares enough AFTER the sale when you have a issue to help clear it up when he could obviously benefit by also simply selling you a new pair They have a customer for life in me If i could give ten starts I would .....go see for yourself if you find me to be wrong you must be impossible to please cause this guy and place is beyond compare not only in the optical world but in any industry read more

I went to the store did a regular exam today. When I finish my exam , I said I would like to buy some contacts as well. The doctor give me the contacts fitting. Well, I told him it's the same number same brand same contacts I wear before. And he said he still want to make sure. It ends up this fitting could cost me more than 100 dollars. Well , no one tell me they gonna charge me before I try the same contacts I wear everyday. The staff just said, you should read your insurance policy before you come here! So be careful, they will charge you even you tried the contacts you wear it every day. They do exam without letting you know the price . Besides, they sold contacts much more expensive than on line. read more

I called and was told to come in. But when i arrived it was busy and they were not even nice. The guy just said they shut down computers at 5 on the dot so I could wait or just come back. I was hesitant to come here w the (more legit) yelp negative reviews but this was closest so I did it. What a waste of time. I hope they go out of business after Shake a Shack draws more interesting people to this dying center. What pisses me off is I got a zipcar just to do this. read more

Omg where do I start, first the doctor tells you there is an additional service which cost $40 for him to take a picture of the retina meanwhile he diagnosed me bulls eye retinopathy and totally disregards that the appointment was for a contact lens exam.after the exam I'm told I can't obtain my contacts nor was a exam done for contacts.at this point I'm heated thats the purpose of me being here I have glasses I don't wear glasses everyday I wear contacts. So now he prompts me to contact another office for further review of the retina.i called the number provided told them what he diagnosed me with the lady over the phone was like that sounds like you need a retina specialist, she asked me if I decided to call that office or did the ophthalmologist provided me with the number she then laughed. I knew at that moment I may have went to the wrong place for this exam. Now fast fwd a few days made an appointment to the retina specialist guess what I don't have bulls eye retinopathy thank heaven. But now 2 weeks later I still have no contacts and now being told my insurance doesn't cover contact exams.so it took you guys 2 weeks to find that out meanwhile according to my insurance eligibility I do have contact lens exams.no worrier I will find another vision place. This was a waste of time . read more

Larry K. I have been a customer Of Village Optical for about three years now, DR. Krasnoff gave me a thorough examination, he takes his time, and he explains everything. I get annoyed when my glasses don't fit right, Greg makes sure I am comfortable with the fit, and it does not matter how long it takes , or how many times I come in for an adjustment. I spent a thousand dollars for my glasses, for my money, this place is the best it can get. Go See Greg, he will treat you like family. read more

Village optical is a life saver. They go above and beyond when it comes to customer service!!! If you ever need same day service or in an emergency, these are the most accommodating people I ever met! Yesterday I broke my glasses and ended up stranded in the middle of deep Long Island. Without my glasses, I can't drive anywhere. Several stores told me that could not provide me a pair of glasses for at least a week. Village optical was the only store that was able to create a pair of glasses in under an hour for me, and I was able to have a friend pick it up. Thank you village optical for your amazing customer service and for helping me get home safe! read more

Pros: It was easy to get an appointment and the hours were good for me. The staff was very upfront about the costs, they had a printout on my plan. Usually when I ask specific costs, someone has to go ask or starts making up stuff. Cons: The staff was professional but not exactly friendly. Very short appointment. Did not communicate what changes they saw in my prescription. Told me that the sample contacts I tried on in store felt strange because I do not wear contacts often. They only prescribe Acuve contact lenses. After the appointment: I did not find any glasses here that I liked. Btw, I noticed they do not have many lower cost options. I filled my prescription at another shop (Cohens) but I cannot wear the glasses because the prescription is too strong. I get a headache after wearing for a couple of hours and have trouble focusing. I have problems with my contact prescription too. I tried the sample contacts for a couple of weeks, but they irritate my eyes. It feels like the fit is off. I wear my old contacts and old glasses with no problem. Summary: I wasted a lot of money this year on exams and glasses that I cannot wear. All thanks to Village Optical. read more

I called to make an appointment and from that conversation, things went great! From the optometrist Stuart Krasnoff who was kind and thorough to Greg who came out and helped me find the perfect sunglasses and put me on to getting a new pair of glasses to replace the outdated ones I had, to Munira and Sissy who so patiently waited on me as I sifted through all the frames. In the end, I got an everyday pair, readers and sunnies. Can't wait to pick up my new eyewear wardrobe. Thank you, Village Optical for helping me see and look better. read more

I purchsed a Groupon for this place. I made an online appointment. My husband and I took the day off to go there. I am in need of an eye exam. I have issues other then to get glasses and contacts. My appointment was for 1:15. They first CALLED ME at 11:45 to cancel the appointment. Nothing available this week. When my husband asked as to why I did not receive an email ( they send a email telling you that soon you will get a confirmation ) I never received anything. So was getting ready and did not see the call until later. Their office manager actually said he would not USE the online booking. He would have called in his appointment.. I mean really - so why have online booking? So I won't be going there in spite of their reviews.I was VERY disppointed as I really wanted to get this process started with my eyes. I was so disppointed. I won't be visiting this place - ever! If they handle their front office this way how good can anything really be there. Just a warning. read more

After spending $350 on glasses, the frames had paint peeling off them and the lenses had a fog on each lens. When I brought them back less than a year later, I was told there was no warranty on the frames. Said they would replace the lenses. They only replaced one lens. When confronted they said they would replace the frames and lenses with a limited selection. Needless to say, the frames I was given were cheap and kept falling apart. I have no glasses now. Thanks Greg. read more

Very Poor Customer Service! Gave me frames that were too small, lenses that were too strong and told "deal with it".

Dr. Krasnoff gave me the most thorough eye exam I received in my entire life. The exam took a while because he does not want to miss a single thing like checking your peripheral vision or ability to follow moving object and such. My old eye doctors took what felt like two minutes to do eye exam and all of my old glasses made me feel dizzy and I ended up not wearing them eventually. Dr. Krasnoff told me "Eyes are more important than just two minutes" and that my old glasses are "completely off." When he was almost done, he made me try temporary glasses on, and I can see so much clearer without any dizziness or discomfort. I also liked that staffs give you a form where you can explain your concerns. I did not check any of the "I want to make a statement with eye glasses" or "I think eye glasses are for fashion" check boxes, so the staff showed me affordable frames covered by my insurance. I did drool over their Chanel, Prada, and Kate Spade frames but they were quite $$$, ranging from $200 to $500. My primary concerns were seeing far distance while driving, protecting my eyes from the sun, and reducing glares at night time. Dr. Krasnoff prescribed me anti-glare transition lens with the right correction level- just what I needed. Staffs are also nice and friendly. Highly recommend! read more

About 5 years ago I was looking to get new glasses so I stopped in here to get an idea on prices. The staff was not friendly and acted like I was an annoyance and clearly had no interest in getting my business. I got my glasses elsewhere. Recently I was in the market for glasses again and stopped in here thinking maybe my previous visit was at a bad time or the staff was having a bad day. I got the exact same reception. I walked in the door and their reaction is like what do you want, as if I was interrupting something. The place was not particularly busy as there was one customer and two staff persons. I mention what I'm looking for in new glasses and the lady that "helped" me was unfriendly, in fact borderline nasty. She also had less knowledge about eyeglasses than I did. I left. Maybe this place has enough business from existing clientele because they seemed like they had zero interest in getting my business, or even having a professional attitude. Its a hole in the wall place too so you'd think they would like new business. But the unfriendly staff act like they'd rather you leave than become a customer. read more
