The new space on Boulevard Saint-Laurent is gorgeous, and much easier to shop (as in no squatting down to look at racks) and has much more room in general. They've kept a few small elements of the old place (hilarious vintage decor) which I'm very happy about, because honestly, it was the second best part of the store! The quality of the vintage stock seems to have improved, in that the less interesting flimsy modern pieces are pretty much gone. Not much else has changed other than the name/branding ( Local x annex) -- they still do their 30% and 50% markdowns, and the pricing seems about the same. Hopefully the new store will have air conditioning in the summer!!

Middle of the road thrift store…read more On one hand they have really great selection. But, am I interested to pay 150$ for a vintage dress because it's vintage silk...Maybe not. If you are grossed out by places like "village des valeurs" and renaissances. It's a great place for you since all the good stuff is already skimmed out. In fact, there is a few stores like this one almost neighbouring each other so if you want the full experience. Look around on Saint-Laurent. This is a great place for a stop.

When you take in consideration that it's one of the first thing you are going to stop buying if you lack money. They often seem to get new bulk merchandise from places like Guess on a fairly regular basis, so from time to time you will see a bunch of identical shirts/shorts/whatever on sale for only a few dollars. Same goes for drugstore variety hair products like Dove or TRESemmé (again, all brand new - no defects). Upstairs they have quite a decently sized book selection, which is organized by subject in French, English, and a few other languages (all usually between $1-$4). Other household items are hit or miss, but all are very inexpensive, and sometimes there are some pretty cool finds. Either way, it's fun to look through. Some good vintage furniture finds on the main floor, but again, it's hit or miss. The NOVA thrift shops are stocked by donations from all over the West Island. They are non-profit organizations run by the Order of Nurses and all the money raised goes to their charitable activities: "The primary mandate is to provide specialized care and support in the home to cancer and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) clients during the course of the illness and particularly in the palliative stage. Other programs include bereavement support for children and adults, adult day centers, home support services and foot care clinics. ALS and Alzheimer Caregivers Support Groups are also available." So that's wonderful and merits all the stars. This NOVA location has furniture, some really gorgeous old tables, chairs and lamps at super reasonable prices. There's also a great collection of books, clothes, kitchen ware and other treasures. The other two NOVAs don't have the furniture, and the one in Ste Anne's had the most exciting dishes and ceramics and fur coats. If you love looking for secondhand treasures these are sweet spots in beautiful neighbourhoods that feel like old villages, a surprising break from the city just a 20ish minute drive from downtown. The staff are as friendly and dedicated as you might imagine and everything they have for sale is clean and high quality. Lovely spot to donate your goods as well! All the love for NOVA.

What drew me to this place instantly was the yellow exterior, Aboriginal chief logo, and an appealing $10 sign. I had the impression it would be like the Black Market vintage store in Toronto - and it was. Almost all of the items were $10, except for some sweaters that were $25. There was a good selection of cool unisex t-shirts ranging from funny to raunchy, which amused the guys. They also have a nice variety of vintage clothing. There were flowy button-up blouses when you first walked in. Then to the right (in a different room) were plaid shirts, tops, sweaters, sweater vests, and cowboy boots. I found a lovely denim shirt for TEN BUCKS. Overall they are well organized, but I think it's also due to the fact that they don't have very much merchandise. I'd suggest you pop in for a quick peek and see if you fancy anything. It'll be hit or miss, but if you find something it'll definitely be a steal!

And in general it just didn't seem as inviting as other renaissance shops I've been to. But if you're willing to look through everything thoroughly, you will probably find gems. Upside is there's a village des valeurs nearby so if you don't find anything you can walk 5 minutes and try another thrift store.

Prices are listed at the MSRP, so you won't see any obvious marked up prices on any of the items - yay! I also picked up some greeting cards and stickers that I fell in love with, which were also Montreal-based. They also had a little corner of cute pins that you can decorate your clothes and/or bags with. The staff here were super friendly and were all knowledgeable in terms of the information on the designers. Out of the several boutiques I visited in the area, their selection particularly stood out to me…read more Many of the glassware and earrings were works of art and very different from the re-occurring styles that I had grown used seeing throughout my itinerary of vintage/indie boutiques. For whatever reason, the artists they carried just appealed to me the most - personal aesthetics I guess. I visited some of their websites later and was not surprised to see many of them working in other mediums and having professional portfolios. It's not cheap, but it's worth a look if you're in the area. There were a fair number of accessories and other home goods I could pass on, but the hits are worth the trip again. You can tell the owners spent a lot of time curating their collection thoughtfully. I will definitely be back for more fantastic finds on my next trip to Montreal.

Prices are reasonable given the quality of the items, roughly 50% of what they would be brand new, +/- about 10%. No crazy bargains to be had, but if you're looking for a specific item and don't want to pay retail, this can be a good option. My daughter has wanted a Canada Goose coat for a while, but they are around $1000 new. I found one here in excellent condition for $400 and was very happy with the purchase, especially as they had a sale on that day for an extra 10% off. Watch their Facebook page and Instagram for sales and for new items in stock. The only negative I had about the store was that there was a very faint smell of cigarettes but it was not in the clothes so not really a big deal. The lady in the store was friendly and helpful and there was no pressure to buy anything. With the fashion industry having such an environmental impact, I've been trying to buy fewer things by buying quality clothes that will last a longer time and buying consignment whenever I can. Will definitely stop in here whenever I am on the hunt for a new addition to the wardrobe.

I left with a few treasures that I've worn many times already, an orangey-red Marc Jacobs blouse, a 60s-ish pair of blue floral ankle length pants and a gorgeous pleated D&G skirt. They also have beautiful jewellery and accessories. I'm glad in a way that I don't live nearby because I'd be spending too much here! Highly recommended.
