Stopped into Village bike shop and they immediately identified the problem and fixed it same day super inexpensively, all this in the height of August visiting season.They saved me from having to rent a bike for the week which would have been more lucrative for them, but they're 100% honest & trustworthy. I have visited Village Bicycle Shop for rentals, repairs, and bike sales and have had good experiences with all three. Rentals have always seemed like a fair price with better deals the longer you rent. They have a nice variety of options including different sizes and styles of bikes for all ages. We have our own bikes now, one of which was purchased here following Labor Day when they sell off former rentals. The bikes have some bumps and bruises, but have been put through the wringer so you know they'll hold up with normal use. Repairs are incredibly quick and inexpensive. Had a tube replaced on a tire of my son's bike. It was I think $11 or $12 and done in about 1-2 hours. Everyone has always been very friendly and helpful. We once forgot our helmets during our trip down and they gave us some to borrow, even though we didn't rent anything. At most charged us a buck or two. Shields is great too, but even they sent us to Village when we needed a repair, which was good to see two competitors recommending each other. Cash only, so keep that in mind. This is a great place to stop for all your bike needs. read more

Two years in row this bike shop has made me wish we had anything like them at home! You would think that I would get our bikes ready for vacation BEFORE vacation, but life is busy, and twice I have come down to Cape May with bikes that needed air at best, and at least one bike that needed a tube or some other minor repair. And both times Village Bicycle shop has been able to get my family up and biking the same day! Their prices are beyond reasonable (plan on paying cash) and the staff is everything Cape May has been about since I started coming down in the early 80's! They are right in town, they seem to have every rental you could want, and the service is pure gold standard, or at least the beach version! Thank you! read more

Year after year they make my crappy beach bikes work like new! Just took another there for new pedals because my duct tape wasn't cutting it. I had new pedals at home but couldn't get the old ones off. They put my pedals on and got my late father's bike rolling again! And extremely reasonable! Can't part with it and now I don't have too. I'm now a customer for life. While biking, I had a problem with my Cannondale bike. I looked for a bike shop in the area and found Village Bike Shop. I took my bike over and they couldn't have been nicer. They test-rode the bike and immediately saw the problem with it. They asked if I could leave it until the next morning when the mechanic would be in. I did. The next morning, they called and said the bike was ready for pick up. The repair was EXTREMELY fair priced (actually cheap) and the mechanic had me test-ride it to check it out to see if it was riding ok, which it was. Everyone was very helpful. I would highly recommend them for a bike repair or if you are just looking to rent a bike to sightsee around Cape May. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

Brought our bikes to Cape May for the first time, made it six blocks south on Beach Ave from our hotel and got a flat. After calling several places, found them and drove the bike over. We were in Cape May on vacation and needed to get a helmet for our 12 year old son as he had out grown his current helmet. When we walked in, we were quickly greated by one of the guys in the shop working on one of the bikes. He pointed us to the helmets and helped us find one appropriately sized and priced for our son. He then assisted with the adjustment including trimming and burning the ends of of the straps. He also provided me with a recommendation for rims for a beach cruiser that I have at home, knowing that I would not be purchasing them there. . A great experience and a fair price. read more

I was riding my bike to Cape May and had a front tire blowout. I did not have any spare tubes with me as I had just used my last pair to earlier in the day. As I came over off the ferry from Delaware I was anxious to find a shop quickly so I could make it back to the ferry to meet the departure time. I determined that the Village Bicycle Shop was only five or six blocks from where I was so I called them to see if they had a tube to fit my rim. The gentleman who answered the phone said that he did so I pushed my bike to the shop. When I arrive at the shop gentleman stop what he was doing in the repair shop and put a new tube in my tire and remounted it for me. He was also very courteous and offered me some good tips on how to prevent the issue from happening again. If I lived in the Cape May area I would certainly be visiting this shop quite often. read more

My friend & i rented bikes for one week. After a few days of riding around town my friends and my back tires were completely flat. We returned the bikes and asked the owner if we could have two different bikes. The man asked where we rode our bikes and I mentioned around town. He said, "I wouldn't ride where you rode again." I said, "well my as well not even rent a bike!" He said, "I have been in business 50 years and this has never happened." He reluctantly gave us two other bikes. I took his remark as he was blaming us for the flat tires. Not good customer service I would say. He wasn't even understanding or nice about it. He should have said, "I'm sorry this happened, I'll be glad to get you both two other bikes, but he didn't say that. Very poor customer service. When we returned the two bikes at 10:00 a.m. as our stay was over, the store was closed. The homemade sign on front of the building said hours 9-5:00 pm. We just left the two bikes with the bike keys in the bike lock. We won't be renting bikes with this bike shop ever again. read more

This place is amazing. In the height of the season, my bike started shifting erratically. I thought I would have to leave the bike for a week or more. But, I dropped off the bike at 11:45 am, and it was ready at 4:45 PM the same day. The repair was much less than I expected to pay. What was really nice was that the mechanic have me advice on what had caused the problem so I wouldn't have the problem in the future. This is the place to go if you need bicycle repair. read more

Awesome bike rental facility. They have several different types and models of bikes. They let you ride them around the parking lot to get acclimated to it and make sure it's a good fit. When I went to rent, I let them know I hadn't ridden a bike in 20 years.. since I was 12!!! They gave me handy tips and even told me what areas I'd be safest riding in since I was a newbie. I rented it for one day, but called that night and told them I'd be keeping it another day... no problem. They even picked it up for me (I kept it 3 total days) because it wouldn't fit in my car when we were ready to leave.... no additional charge. Great location, great people!!! read more

If you're visiting Cape May, bicycle riding is a MUST! I enjoyed it so much! I would recommend to get your bikes here, I loved their bikes, they looked new! Prices are good, service was great and they were very friendly. The only reason I took a star away is because they're cash only and for me that is very inconvenient and also they close at 6:00pm which is too early for the summer season. I needed the batteries changed on my Brompton LightSKIN seatpost and Todd showed me where to change them inside the seatpost. After I got the batteries Nicholas helped me on a busy Saturday morning to lift the bike onto an outside table so I could change them. I accidentally left something behind and Nicholas followed me two blocks on a bicycle to return it. All the staff were courteous and helpful, and my LED safety lights are flashing again with their help. read more

I needed my bike tuned up, and not only did they do it that day, but when I came to pick it up, I didn't have cash to pay -- they let me ride my bike home (because I walked there), and bring back the cash the next day to pay. Talk about trust!!! And, it was less than $20! And, before I bought my bike, we used to rent from them because they were so reasonable (and knowledgeable). Pretty easy process. Cash only. $5 per hour or $12 for the day. Rentals include a good quality lock. Who would rent a bike for just an hour? We got 2 for the day & rode all over including to the lighthouse & back. Used them for about 4 hours. One pedal broke on the man's bike near the end of our rental. No big deal. read more

A real bike shop with mechanics who know what they're doing. Dropped my son's road bike rim off with a flat since I didn't feel like doing it myself. They diagnosed a problem with the rim (needed a thick liner inside the rim strip), fixed it, and charged less than $20. The shop back home won't do anything for less than $40. Nice guys to boot and very willing to spend time despite being a busy, busy shop. read more

This is a fabulous shop. While on vacation recently, my bike got a flat. The mechanic fixed it with a new tire within a few minutes. He even adjusted something else on the bike, and charged me a ridiculously low amount that barely covered the cost of the new tube. I was very pleased and highly recommend them. read more

We were recommended to this place by South Jersey Marina (STELLAR place to stay if you are on a boat, BTW). SJM called to let them know we were coming, SJM dropped us off, and then Village Bicycle Shop picked up the bikes at SJM when we were done. We started with one day rental. The staff was ridiculously helpful, friendly and totally knew their stuff. They adjusted our bikes as many times as we asked, then we had a ball biking all over Cape May. So much fun that we added another day. All with no hassle from Village. In fact, when we stopped by to talk about how to do the return, the owner came out and said, "I can drop you back at your place now, or come by the marina and pick up the bikes after the rental period expires. You are the customer!" Highly recommend checking out Cape May via bicycle, and also recommend Village Bicycle Shop. read more
