MacArthur Bark Park - Great space for the pups.

Again Noah has written an excellent review…read more Nice layout and esthetics. Wish I was on a work trip with my Pup just to bring him. Small area for dogs 30 lbs and under and over 30. Water. Rock features. Sloping hills. Poop bags. Dogs and dog owners only though. Still you have street parking available. Or the dedicated Park parking lot with a short walk to the park. Not a lot of shade but that's seems to be the norm for dog parks these days. Good dedicated area for Fido to sniff butts and run around with friends.

This is a pretty solid dog park in Little Rock, it's particularly open and pretty for a dog park,…read moreand has really central water stations, and tends to get one of the better crowds of both dogs and dog owners. It's also the most central of a lot of the ones I've been to, easily walkable from SOMA and Downtown, and even the Clinton Library if you're especially determined. It's nestled in the Southeastern corner of MacArthur Park, all in all a great place to walk around and enjoy a day outside, or catch a museum visit (I hear the brunch at the art museum is terrific!) and it's a nice perk for us dog owners to have a spot where we can let the furbabies run off-leash for a little while. There are some hills to get your fetch-oriented dogs extra tired, and some cool rock sculptures that dogs love to run through. It gets a few demerits that are mostly seasonal: it's the muddiest of the parks I've gone to (even more so than Burns, which was a shock) and it also has almost no shade, so if you're there on a hot day, be prepared to have no escape in this park. Still, that also makes it one of the best places to go when the weather is ideal :)

Some of the city's popular attractions include the State Capitol, The Arkansas River, Central High School, the River Market District, the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden, The Bill Clinton Presidential Library and MacAuther Park. The downtown area has commercial lots and metered street parking. The meters run Monday through Friday, from 8AM to 6PM for the most part. The city is known a group called the Little Rock Nine, A group a 9 black teenagers that integrated Central High School in the city, in the face of intimidation, threats and violence. The city is the 118th most populous in the country and is home of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Most of the people that I encountered in the city were friendly. You will find panoramic views along the river and it was double awesome at night. River Front and River Walk Parks are amazing spots to take it all in. I found it to be a relatively clean city and the airport was only about 10 minutes from the Downtown area. Even though the city is ranked as one of the top 10 most dangerous cities in the country, I never came across a time that I felt uncomfortable or in danger. This is a chill little city and I really enjoyed my time here. There was enough for me to do and I was able to find some awesome eateries such as Campo Taco, Maddie's Place, the Rail Yard, and the Flying Fish.

Oh and there are ancient petroglyphs (rock carvings). Uhhhh, what kind of a jerk would I be to give this less than 5-stars?? FYI from what I can tell, this cave shelter has several names...Indian Rock Cave AKA Indian Rock House AKA Indian Rock House Cave AKA Edgemont Shelter. And most of the rock art is located on the west side of the shelter. You can see the depiction of several human figures as well as a four-legged animal of some variety. There are also a number of lines and geometric shapes. Rad! You can access the shelter in a couple of different ways. There is a museum in the Indian Hills Golf Course parking lot and another log cabin next to it. There's a short trail with some stairs that start at the log cabin. You can also access the shelter from the golf course itself. Took the kids on a nice neat-ture walk along the trail that runs in front of the cave along with a stretch of cool rock formations. Easy hike for the most part - or you can always bail onto the golf course. We did get some bug bites and did see poison ivy along the trail. Forgot my measuring devices, but from what I've read, the rock shelter is a 100 feet wide, 50 feet high, and 97 feet deep. I've never been able to handle spelunking, so this is kinda the perfect cave size for this girl who is terrified of being underground and in tight spaces. None of that necessary here!

The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts is treasure nestled in the heart of Little Rock, easily accessible for both locals and tourists. During my visit, they had an exhibition for Native American artists and I was pleasantly surprised by the Pablo Picasso pieces that were on loan to this museum. Beautifully curated selection of artworks in a building that I consider art itself because of the amazing design and windowed 2nd floor that overlooks Little Rock! They also offer fun, hands on courses for all types of art including painting, sculpting, and even jewelry making. I did not have time to take any courses though. I spent roughly 2 hours and was able to see everything! Whether you have a couple of hours to spare or a whole day, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts is highly recommended for anyone with an appreciation for art. A MUST SEE destination in Little Rock!

This two-floor mansion which it seems will soon be adjacent to a much larger art gallery offers…read moreboth a general history of the state of Arkansas and its contribution to military history as well as a specific exhibition dedicated to its namesake. Douglas MacArthur is an interesting historical figure; while the place unsurprisingly paints a favorable picture of him, the museum presents some controversy for the viewer to think about. Much of the other exhibitions were primary source photographs or paintings from the time of various wars. It isn't fancy, but it does allow the viewer to make up his or her own mind, and there's plenty to ponder. Given that the museum is free to enter, I expect that visitorship will only grow as the next door building opens, and I certainly think it's worth a look.

It has artifacts, displays, videos, pictures, and placards detailing Arkansas and some of the state's famous residents' contributions to wars including the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. There is parking right out front of the museum and in the lot that belongs to the neighboring park as well. One of the best parts of the museum, and there are many, is that it is free. The museum has a meeting/conference area on the 2nd floor, where chairs are situated in a square around the room's perimeter. The museum is small but packed. It is also well organized. There are no guides and there was only one guy sitting at the front desk at the entrance and he never left his post. Some of the more notable exhibits in the museum include the General MacArthur exhibit on 2nd floor. General MacArthur was actually born in Little Rock.....who knew? There is also a large exhibit on Asian Americans that fought in WWII, women suffrage posters/cartoons and a Jeep display. If you do visit this Museum, I encourage you to venture outside and take a look a the nearby memorials, markers, and placards. They added to my museum experience. I highly recommend checking this museum out. I really enjoyed my time here and learned a lot. Between the adjoining park, the fine arts, memorials, and other attractions, you can actually make a day of it.
