My son and I are visiting from Raleigh, NC and we always go to the story time at home so I was so…read morethankful that the Main Library in Little Rock offered a story time. The parking is great. They have a lot designated for library goers. If you are attending the story time they provide you with a free parking pass for up to 2 hours. Which I didn't know but I'll remember for next time. The library is clean and well organized. I love that the kids area is separate from the other parts of the library; it's on the 3rd floor. The kids area was well organized and I love that they allowed the children to be themselves and play. The librarian we spoke with was really nice. She assisted my son with finding basketball books. They had plenty of books to choose from, they also had plenty of games for the kids to play until story time started. Story time was okay. The lady was very friendly to the children and seemed to really enjoy them and knew how to keep them engaged. She didn't seem very organized but her stories + songs were engaging. Overall nice library.

The downtown Little Rock library is an impressive facility. The remodel is amazing, the building is…read morewell constructed, and everything from the interior to the exterior is well done. The first floor offers excellent information, and each floor provides numerous opportunities and resources for the community. Unfortunately, my experience took a disappointing turn after I posted flyers at five different library locations across Central Arkansas, including locations in North Little Rock and the law library at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. After visiting these locations to share information with the community, I received incredibly rude feedback from the technology help desk on the lower floor of the downtown Little Rock library. My intention was to help educate the community about new products and new companies offering services for free. This raises a legitimate question: What is the purpose of having job boards and community resource areas if local businesses and service providers cannot share information that may benefit the public? I understand that libraries need policies regarding flyers and promotional materials. However, those policies should be clearly communicated and enforced professionally and respectfully, especially in public institutions designed to educate, inform, and serve the community. The downtown facility itself deserves high praise for its renovation, design, and resources. Unfortunately, the interaction with staff significantly impacted my overall experience. I hope library management will review its community posting policies, clarify what materials are permitted, and encourage staff to communicate with visitors in a courteous and constructive manner. Libraries should be places where education, innovation, and community engagement are encouraged. Beautiful facility, excellent resources, but the customer service experience needs improvement.

This library has excellent summer reading programs. There are incentives for reading books, story…read moretimes and crafts weekly for all age groups. They have a kitchen and cooking class for children ages 8 and up I think. They have a beautiful garden and greenhouse. During the summer of 2015 they had a free lunch program Monday through Saturday for ages 1 to 18. It was called 'Food for Good' and sponsered by PepsiCo and Arkansas Dream Center. It was excellent because my preschooler's programs occured twice a week and always happened right before the lunch time. The lunches are very typical of what I feed her and always included a fresh fruit or vegetable and milk. We would take her lunch outside or around back and enjoy some time talking about the activities she had just done. They have a play area with toys for smaller children that could use some updating. They have computers for children, but I think they should rethink the activities available. It's mostly just links to like Nike Jr and Suesville which isn't always easy to navigate for younger children. We plan to make trips to this library a part of each week of our summer!

The perimeter has never looked so bad in the 4 years we have made visits to this particular library. The grounds appear to be grossly neglected, over grown with weeds, therefore, not conducive to young children and adults being able to enjoy the outside features. We have not observed another CALS Library with a such a horrible outer appearance as this one. The inner Library appears to be intact. The reading and viewing materials for children are broad which is appreciative. Children from the immediate area and outside the area appear better managed to the point it makes the inner Library nice/safe and enjoyable for all.
