It's a charming boutique hotel with stunning, unbelievable views from the balcony of our room (though note, balcony privacy is limited). We were fully prepared to give a 5-star review. However, a disturbing incident on our final night completely changed our perspective and revealed a shocking lack of duty of care from the management. While returning to the hotel via the steep, dark alleyway approach (approx. 50 steps), we found two young women in clear distress. One was nearly unconscious--limp, unable to speak, with dilated eyes--while her friend, who seemed only slightly intoxicated, was struggling to help her. The friend stated they had just been drinking at the Hotel Casa Albertina rooftop bar. As my wife is a nurse, we immediately stopped to assist. Concerned for their safety on the dark steps, we made the logical decision to help the incapacitated woman back up to the hotel lobby, the very establishment that had served them, so she could sober up safely and we could arrange a secure ride home. The receptionist's reaction was appalling. He was immediately hostile, refused help, and demanded we remove her from the premises. We were not accusing anyone of anything; we were simply trying to ensure a patron's safety. The hotel's defensive and aggressive stance was telling and deeply unsettling. I ultimately had to carry this young woman down all 50 steps myself to get her and her friend into a taxi (we confirmed they got home safely). The most unbelievable part was the manager confronting and yelling at us during checkout the next morning, reiterating that we were "wrong" to bring her to the lobby. The complete lack of concern for a customer's well-being is unacceptable. I cannot stress this enough: I would caution anyone, especially women traveling alone or in small groups, to be extremely aware of their surroundings and seriously reconsider patronizing this hotel's rooftop bar. The management's priority is clearly avoiding liability over ensuring patron safety. Their vicious reaction to our good-faith attempt to help was appalling and ruined our honeymoon's final impression. In good conscience, I cannot recommend this hotel or its bar to anyone. The view is not worth the risk.

The gentleman working the front desk, quickly made a dinner reservation for us at the Mediterranean right down the block so we could eat before the kitchen closed at 10pm. We left our luggage with him to bring to our rooms and we were off to eat after a very long day of travel. Our room had a jacuzzi tub on the patio with an outstanding view. I sat many mornings at our patio table and enjoyed reading my book. Our room was spacious with a wall of closets and a large dresser. It also had a couch, coffee table and tv but we never turned on the TV. Breakfast was served on the fourth floor. Be sure to chat with 'Stix' as he has lots of stories and he makes a great cappuccino. It was raining for 3 of the days we were there so we ate on the covered side of the patio. On the fourth day, it was gloriously sunny so we sat in the open air and enjoyed a spectacular view. Our room was clean. Maid service was good. The staff was amazing. I really liked this place because it was a bit off the beaten path so it was quieter but still easy to get to shops and the port. Great experience.

Punta Regina is the hidden gem of Positano and out of 6 hotels/ cities we visited during the 2 week…read moretrip in Italy, Punta Regina was hands down my favorite. Let me explain further: 1. Their Service - Exceptional service that went above and beyond just "great service". The things they did for my wife and I. The interactions we had every time, with anyone there - they always made you feel at home or welcome. Beats many of the 5 star hotels I've stayed at in both the US and other countries around the world. You'll receive world class service from them and nothing less. 2. Location - amazing location with an infinity pool overlooking Positano. You can walk down to the beach two different ways (stairs are steeper but faster) or through the main road down. When you want to escape the crowds, you make your way back up and enjoy, not only the serenity of less people, but the higher viewpoints of Positano. That said, it's worth noting that my wife and I are in our early 30's and we're pretty fit - although, outside the gym I hate walking. My parents have stayed at Le Sirenuse and I know they wouldn't have enjoyed the stairs route at Punta Regina for what it's worth (60 yrs old+). But it's typically younger adults who stay here and if that's the case for you, it's a piece of cake and once again, this is coming from someone who hates walking. 3. Price - their prices are super competitive. We stayed in Punta Caterina and were a little worried that it wouldn't be as nice since it wasn't connected to the main hotel/ pool/ breakfast area. That didn't matter. It was so close on the same street it was negligible and we got to still book the suite at a solid price with our own private balcony overlooking an unobstructed and breathtaking Positano ocean view. Admittedly, we did use that balcony a lot for laundry as well since it was so big, but I digress! Ultimately, we LOVED our stay with the Punta Regina family. We got to write in their book they keep at the front desk too. Everyone there is so nice and I follow Punta Regina on Instagram where it always makes my day when I see them post. It takes me back to some of our fondest memories in Italy and we can't wait to go back again one day!

Casa Celeste is a classic and cute place to stay, with dozens of restaurants and shops within walking distance, the beach down a (very) long flight of stairs (that's just the way the city is built), a gorgeous little deck to eat breakfast on, and a great dinner place nearby owned by one of their family members. Celeste and her family are so, so hospitable and kind, and the rooms and accommodations are great. One of the rooms has a window you can open to sit on the roof in the evenings, where my parents and I sat one night and watched a meteor shower. On the beach, you can rent reclining chairs to tan in or even a kayak to explore the seashore coves, and if you're lucky, you'll find some painted pottery pieces that were broken and discarded into the sea to become the Italian alternative to seashell collectibles. The family also owns a beach bar run by Celeste's sons, and everything there is fresh and delicious, the ceviche, gelato, and salads being some of my favorites. If you're in Positano or the nearby Amalfi, make sure to stay here, visit their beach bar, or both. Great, great people!

She is so sweet and made us feel so welcome for this special occasion. The family also runs a beach bar which they tell you to go to. We went a couple times and spent one day there just chilling at the beach. Very nice and fun guys running the beach bar. The only cons really for this place are the hike up and down 450 steps to get to the beach and it is more in a corner in Positano away from the main center but it is by no means out of the action. We also preferred the little slower pace and made it feel less touristy (as much as Positano can). Pros include the unbelievable views including breakfast every morning on a picturesque terrace. I will never forget it and we felt very welcomed with the hospitality. Rooms were very nice and well kept. I would not hesitate to recommend this establishment.

Location: When your uber or car drops you off you'll have to walk a few minutes from the street to get to the bed & breakfast: There's one short flight of stairs to take. If luggage's or heavy it might be a little difficult. There's no one at the inn that can help. Just a really old man. If you ferry in there's luggage helpers down by the fairy and they drive your luggage's up to where you're staying from the ferry. It's a 20 mins walk roughly from where all the hot spots are in Positano. Good to know: You don't actually get to keep your key on you. They take your key every time you leave the hotel / inn. Also, they have a curfew which ends at 1:30 am. The front desk guy also stays there so I think you can call if you get locked out or for an emergency after the curfew starts.

It's a gorgeous journey, and the resort is even more impressive. Oh the number of stairs we had to climb to our room... 200 or so? My husband counted once. It was a short ways from the pool and many more steps down to the private beach. The first day we arrived, I spent some time on the beach just reading and relaxing. They have such a lovely homemade breakfast of fresh fruits, breads, jams, meats, and cheese. And the coffee. Delicious! Lunch is fantastic too. All the family members who run La Fenice are so hard-working and friendly. Makes you feel right at home. It's within walking distance of the bus stop and lots of amazing restaurants. Since my husband has stayed here before, he knew how wonderful it was, but it made me want to explore other places next time... Or even other islands like Capri. WiFi is strong near the pool but not in the rooms. Everything is minimal in terms of amenities (minus the pool and beach or course) which will easily encourage you to get out and explore Positano. They are the most helpful, friendly, gracious and joyful hosts I have ever had. They insist on taking care of every need you may have during your stay. They arrange shuttles, transportation, directions, reservations...anything you need. No unwelcome surprises. No worries. Private beach, saltwater swimming pool with fountain, rooms with spectacular views is where they begin. It's close to town (Positano) but far enough away from the chaos of Positano to be peaceful and quiet. You won't go wrong with La Fenice.

There are definitely a lot of stairs so you should know before you opt to walk! I would not recommend walking up. There is also a Sita bus stop right across the street which makes it totally convenient to go anywhere in Positano. We stayed in room 10 which had an incredible view from the balcony. It was clean and comfortable and they made up our room every morning. They give you free breakfast in the morning which is just some croissants and pastries with coffee but it is beautiful sitting and enjoying them with their incredible view from the dining terrace. Barbara helped us out the entire time during our stay and she was great- whether it was getting us reservations at restaurants or answering our million questions every day. Upstairs, there is a bar and coffee shop owned by the NICEST and most helpful man in Italy. It was truly a pleasure to see him every day. I would definitely recommend staying here. I believe they have a two night minimum stay- it is worth every penny.

I think most of the 11 people staying here for the week were pretty happy with the place; however…read moreI'll give my own detailed appraisal. There is plenty of space in the villa, many different living areas so even 11 people are not living on top of each other. Each of the guests rooms are large with their own bathrooms, there aren't any bad rooms. Some are pretty amazing, with the shower built into the rock face, and some bedrooms are also built into the rock face too. The walk to get here from the town centre is a killer, even for young fit people. So I recommend that you stay in the villa as much as you can, or bring some good walking shoes! There is a bus / taxi option but neither can get you right down into the town centre (the beach), or right up to the villa. So even if you cut out the middle part of the walk, you're still in for some serious stairs! Having said that, once you get here, it's pretty amazing! Elderly people don't even bother unless you're not going to leave for your entire stay. The family who owns the villa are super accommodating, and have a 'no problem is too big' attitude. There are 3 staff members who work here full time. One of the staff members can understand most English, the other 2 can't. I didn't find the staff particularly friendly (family owners aside). Not a lot of smiles. Not bad service, not great either, just mediocre. I wasn't happy when I saw the house keeper throw her hands in the air when she saw I had slept on the couch....because I woke up with an ant infested bed! I was meant to wake them up at 3am to deal with it then (and wake my room mate). Which brings me to my next point, they need a buzzer or call button to call staff when needed. At the moment they say to yell out, but most of us couldn't remember or pronounce their names. A continental breakfast is provided, it could be significantly improved with little additional expense - it's pretty sparse. They could put a toaster out with some bread to toast, add some more cereals and put the milk jug in a bowl of ice so it stays chilled. The breakfast table is also not cleared regularly, so often left messy. With 3 full time staff, it shouldn't be difficult to keep it tidy. Wifi works well, and there is good apple technology to play music through their speakers using your apple devise. They provide towels and make up the rooms nicely too. They also have a machine which produces still and sparkling water on tap, and a top quality ice making machine. There are fridges you can take drinks out of for a fee, they are not super expensive, but if you want to save some dollars buy food and drinks from the local deli at the bottom of the driveway, and they will deliver it up to the villa for free (remember it's a decent hike from the bottom of the driveway). The housekeeper can cook meals for guests. Restaurant prices, but admittedly, this lady CAN cook! It's pretty nice being served a 3 course meal on the balcony overlooking the Mediterranean sea. It's a must do on your stay. We held a wedding reception here, and it ran very very smoothly. There were 60 guests and there was plenty of room. they did an excellent job. Though the waiters could have kept the drinks on the tables stocked a little better (now I'm getting picky...). There was a sewerage smell that would occasionally waft over the dance floor by the pool, hopefully this will be fixed soon. It was pretty faint and didn't ruin the night. It was the most impressive setting for a reception I have ever seen though. Seriously amazing view from the villa. The housekeeper will do your laundry which I thought was cool, but there will be a charge on your bill at the end. I thought this would have been a nice free value add for guests. The group decided to tip, if I were to make a decision on my own I wouldn't have. I think the $14,000 per week price tag should cover the service we received. This place is really impressive, we had a wonderful time, and I'm sure that future guests will also have a wonderful time. Having said that unless I'm with a group and we all want to live together, I will probably stay somewhere closer to town next time.
